Everything up until the hotel room meeting is brilliant... first-rate action sci-fi. Loses a bit of steam after that, but still a grand movie overall.
Southpaw - Better then I thought it was going to be, but not as good as it could and probably should have been. It has a lot of things working for it - namely Jake G, who is great, and the production values for the boxing itself which, whilst the bouts are very glamorized, they are presented like the real deal - but through a combination of being a bit too formulaic (lots of melodrama here), not having the best scripting in the world and, mainly, having real problems with its pacing, it never quite reaches the level it probably wanted to be it.
Still, thanks in large parts to Gyllenhaal (one of the best actors in Hollywood today?) a nice support turn from Whitaker, and Rachel McAdams looking hot as hell (she's not in it for much, but she starts off in a very tight dress, and then goes on to wear less and less) I enjoyed it.
Wait, you hadn't seen this one before?Minority Report - I'm gonna have to let this one sink in for a while but it was a nice ride, excellently made. Like with most Tom Cruise films tho it left me with a sense of detachment.
Naah.Wait, you hadn't seen this one before?
That must be a sight to behold.it's refreshing to see Statham acting
That must be a sight to behold.
That must be a sight to behold.
Well you clearly weren't sober...It's the best movie that ive seen in a while.
Just about to start episode 4 of the Dekalog, it's fantastic. Harrowing right from the start, but brilliant. I know dumbo's not a fan (I don't know anyone else on here who's seen it) but I'm mesmerised.
Parts 1, 4, 5 & 6 are some heavy shit.Started watching this again 4 years on and it's had exactly the same impact - it really is mesmerising. I've still never seen anything that comes close to being this affecting. Breathtakingly, heartbreakingly beautiful. It's a must-see.
I have too many, can you be more specific?I'm home alone this week without much in the way of evening plans. Hit me with film suggestions please, oh knowledgable cafites.
Not really, could watch anything. Feel stuck in LA at the moment - watching Get Shorty and The Player (first time) tonight.I have too many, can you be more specific?
Network is the pick of that bunch, a classic. Not really, could watch anything. Feel stuck in LA at the moment - watching Get Shorty and The Player (first time) tonight.

Calvary
Blue Ruin
Network
Locke
Ha, I love all of those except for The Big Sleep, haven't seen it. Will add it and Network to the list.Network is the pick of that bunch, a classic.
As for LA. Mulholland Drive, The Big Sleep, Sunset Boulevard, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk-Love are some good ones.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller for me.The Player is my favourite Altman pic.
Yeah I don't think The Player is necessarily his best (although it might be) but I'm a sucker for films about Hollywood.McCabe & Mrs. Miller for me.

Do you still consider The Last Samurai Tom Cruise' best film is the question that truly eating me up though?!?!
I'm always changing my mind. When I first joined this site I was young and wasn't that into films so I imagine that I have a few shockers in the beginning of this thread.stop changing your mind Nilsson it makes trawling through your posts way more difficult.
Penn should be Milk, McQueen should be Bullitt, Rourke should be the Wrestler and you should keep Hackman as Popeye. Oh and Cruise Magnolia or Collateral. All the rest are fair shouts. What's that list from anyway?Probably not, but I'm really indifferent to his films.
