Why were Ribéry and Iniesta two recent winners in that case? It's accepted to be a European performances award regardless of stated criteria.
Müller didn't win it. Ribery did. And Iniesta's outstanding performance at the Euro 2012 certainly played a major role in his win in 2012, it's not just CL. It's clearly performances in all competitions.

Point is European performances isn't the only criteria here. Whether they have different weighting for domestic, European and international performances is another matter.
