he can have a nice 3weeks thinking about things.

Then September 2nd he can either buck up, or face a year doing jack.

Could you imagine if this were to transpire, has there ever been a case of a top class player literally disappearing for a year in these circumstances?

Hope from the bottom of my heart it doesn't play out like this, but LvG seems to have ultimate control and if anyone were to follow it through it would be him.

Physically, I'm sure he is but the club has said he isn't mentally match fit; not good for an outfield player, bloody disastrous for a goalie. Even during a one-sided match, a goalie has to maintain 100% concentration for 90 minutes. I think the greatest of all English goalies, Gordon Banks, wrote words to that effect.

I can't claim to have seen Romero play much but he did all right against Spurs and he's played in some big games for Argentina. Give him a chance. Also young Johnstone has a good reputation so we're not too badly off. However, it should have been sorted out after the final home game last season when it was clear that De Gea wanted out.
Tbf I think we tried, but Dave, his agent and United to some extent, probably thought Madrid were desperate to get him. It's turned out to be the opposite and they're quite happy to get him on a free.

Ultimately, Mendes underestimated the situation and/or got played by Perez. He is the one DDG should be pissed off with because he gave him bad advice.
I can imagine it went something like this:

1) Dave always intended to go to Madrid if the opportunity came up
2) Mendes promised him he would make it happen
3) Mendes then goes and discusses this with Perez at some point
4) Perez makes it clear if Dave signs an extension, he will no longer be interested or some such thing
5) Mendes relates this to Dave and assures him that of course the club will sell for whatever they can get - no way would United hold on to you etc etc
6) Mendes underestimates Woodward and here we are...

Simply by trying to be underhanded, and DDG not signing that extension has caused all this problem for everyone. He just needed to be above board and have a gentleman's agreement that should the opportunity come for him to return to Madrid, he'd like the club to honour it. Then Mendes could go and do his wheeling dealing etc.
As it is, they've left the club with no other option than to play it the way they have. The way the club is perceived is very important to Woodward - and he won't want to lose. So DDG is now caught between the Woodward/Perez power struggle and imo all his and Mendes' fault for falling over themselves to make everything as smooth as possible for Madrid.

It's unfortunate, but such is life.

hopefully it'll be more like the Rooney and Schneiderlin scenarios from recent years, left out/benched for a bit, then get their heads on and play well after.
real tough line though. Give them too long a contract, and you end up massively hindered like Nani/Anderson, and not long enough, you get these scenarios.

Do you think that Van Gaal could be trying to force the club to negotiate for De Gea?,let him off the team because is not psycologically ready seems a bit weird

Somewhere in between I think, reckon about £20-25m. Only my opinion, could be completely wrong.
Im not so sure ..I think as fans we tend to think the worst, while almost hoping for the best..to soften the blow almost(I do it too sometimes)..look at the Pedro thread for example..Madrid seem to not be splashing much money this year..suprising considering Barca have won the treble and are very strong..20 million is over 30 mil Euros though, for a guy with a year left on his deal..Im not sure that Madrid want to pay that, especially for a gk...but September 2 cant come soon enough..

No, I really think he intended to play him , but his perfomance against PSG led to this..LVG has been one of the most vocal about United wanting a significant fee..even last season, he said that United would not make it easy for DDG to leave, even before things got to this..I think they(Woody, LVG and the board) are singing from the same hymn sheet

I think him and the club probably have different views on it now, yes. I think van Gaal now sees it as a distraction and given De Gea wants to go, would sell if Madrid made an acceptable bid, and then reinvest and move on.

I think the club feel they need to stand up to Madrid and having come this far save face, which I can understand.

How long was Tevez out when he went AWOL from City?

From the Telegraph, apparently embargoed quotes.

According to Marca....

Los Blancos are sure they have enough quality in Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla to hold the fort and are not prepared to break the bank for De Gea. They have already agreed personal terms with the Spanish keeper, who if a deal is not done this season, would arrive on a free transfer next summer.

Meanwhile, United's bosses are holding out. They know full well they have lost the first battle with Real Madrid, left high and dry without Sergio Ramos, but they would rather remain at war for as long as they can.

Van Gaal dropped De Gea for their opening game of the Premier League season and said the keeper would not play a single minute of football until his situation was cleared up. United are prepared to sell their star keeper to Real Madrid, but for now the summer sales have not yet arrived at Old Trafford.

Isn't it against UEFA rules to talk to a player without consent of the team he's under contract with?
Either Marca are getting desperate by bullshitting out of there arse, or Madrid have broken the rules by talking to De Gea.

And what summer sales did they have in mind? LOL
Cheeky bastards.

this is what annoys me the most about Madrid. I would put money on that being the case (.ie tapping up) but feck all will be done about it. Disgusting.

As good as gone now. He can feck off. Hope he does shite (yes, I am bitter).

We have done this too. All big clubs contact players before they agree fee.

Nothing bitter about it, he's been a dickhead and I hope he remembers how good our support was once he inevitably f*cks ups at Madrid and faces the whistles and boos. Arsehole of the highest order.

Yep, he's gone. How much do you reckon we'll get for him?

£20m maximum. Mendes will take care of that, he doesn't want a free transfer next year, he wants to pocket the money now.

Llorente was frozen at Athletic after deciding to leave them on a free to join Juventus. He was one of their best players and their best striker by a distance.

Nothing as really changed .He never wanted to play for United when he rejected the contract.

Not acting professional anymore DDG?
Van Gaal was asked whether De Gea could win his place back if he was still in Manchester after the transfer window closes. “That depends on Romero and his form,” he said. United did, however, later stipulate they had no issues with De Gea’s professionalism.
It kinda contradicts though.

Seems shit but with a goalkeeper in the last year of his contract who obviously wants to go, we can't do much better. Hopefully Woodward manages to squeeze an extra few million out of it somehow.

He usually loves telling the press that he keeps those sort of conversations private. He's trying to change the fans stance on him so everybody will want him to feck off.

Hope we shaft him now, didn't really care beforehand but if he's genuinely refusing to play we should stick him on the bench for the year.

He could've said said that earlier in the window... I'd keep him still though if Madrid don't pay up, even if it is on the bench, too much power for the players these days. I'm gutted though, he's such a talented keeper..

“We talked with him [De Gea] and he fully agreed with our decision,” Van Gaal said. “I have one assistant coach and another assistant coach so we speak about that kind of thing together. We have a goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, and I’m not doing everything alone.

“Frans Hoek … he has a meeting with David de Gea and he asked him: ‘Do you want to play?’” Asked what the response was, Van Gaal said: “‘No.’ Then I have to take the decision. It is a process. We had been observing him in preparation, he was not so good, he was not the same David de Gea as before. He was my best player last season. According to the fans, he was the best of the last two years.”

We knew all this last week, calm down.

Sounds like LVG wants him out and is trying to manoeuvre the club into making a deal.

Is that for real? I never would have thought LVG would be the type of person to say that.
