If we're willing to spunk £37 million on a raw and unproven teenager but were penny pinching with Pedro's fee something is seriously off, even on the off-chance that Martial goes on to become the best striker in the league.
The sensible approach would be to sign an established top class player or two now and move for Martial next year, when (hopefully) our team is more settled and functioning as a unit. There isn't a 19 year old in the world that could come in and fix our problems at this time. We need instant quality and experience, not investments for the future.

I actually think it's unfair to hang such a high transfer fee on a player so young. Could end up being a massive noose around the lad's career if he doesn't settle and play well.
But we will be sure to have the right players, when you have players like that in your team, you are golden.

He has scored 11 goals for Monaco last season. It's a bid ridiculous that we would bid £37m for him now and even worse for Monaco if they turned it down.

The part I liked the most in that video was Berba's goal. Not saying Martial is poor or anything, but I don't see how he's worth more than 10M let alone 35M.

Yeah but we've already missed out on Pedro and we still need more up front. Options are limited, and we've been missing out on a lot of very talented young players because we weren't willing to spend the money when they were available. No idea if this kid is in that category, mind.
He looks a great prospect but if he's only a prospect then it could be a season or two before he was ready to make an impact at Utd...Still getting any striker out there with pace and potential could only be a good thing in the long run...Seems like Monaco have no intention of selling him and don't need the money either
Like Draxler? Pato? Gourcuff? Or countless other young prodigies that could have gone for outrageous sums only to fail to progress as expected.
If the fee is as high as reported I would be very surprised if it's not heavily structured and dependent on appearances, winning trophies etc.. Why not wait and see before going all melodramatic about the fee.
If they truly rejected that, we could go for Breel Embolo. Same age, looks really talented as well. Possbily easier to get.

Lacazette should go for less because Lyon aren't loaded and are barely breaking even, in 2013/2014 they had a 25m deficit. But just in term of football yes, Lacazette is a better player currently, a far better player.

And aren't Monaco into making money right now by selling their players ? It's not like they've sold likes of Abdennour, Kurzawa etc.. for this much over market price either. We are offering way better value for Martial at those numbers.

His record so far is pretty good for a 19 year old. But is pretty good worth this amount of money, obviously it's an investment in his potential though.
