Mendes is a snake :) Why would Mendes give De Gea advice as his agent, if De Gea ignores it? Who advised De Gea to say nothing? If De Gea and Madrid have talked, who was the go between. Of course Mendes would advise De Gea to sign an extension. Most people know what Madrid did and it's damage limitation. Mendes has been telling United one thing and advising De Gea the opposite.

Think Nani would say something about that!!
That wasn't everyone, and it was disgraceful. He was shocking, mind. De Gea deserves our support. Madrid booed one of their longest serving players for feck sake!

Saying it's someone's fault implies someone's done something wrong, and I don't think we have.
I don't believe either club's statement 100% frankly. And if we did stall the transfer cause we didn't want it then fine, nothing wrong with that. But it puts a player somewhere he doesn't want to be for another year to no one's gain. That's what I'm trying to say.

So what you are saying is that IF we did do something deliberately to mess this up, that'd be wrong?

Do NOT play him until he signs a new contract. Euro is coming up and he will get desperate.

If he does sign a new deal, then Woodward has played a blinder. Strengthens our position considerably for next year's negotiations.

If stuff like this and talk of his girlfriend leading him around is true you have to wonder if the guy really is a bit of a simpleton, and perhaps he really has been "confused" and unable to concentrate on football this whole time.
Yes, he does seem a bit...slow. But what's the point of hiring Moriarty as your agent if you're not going to listen to him anyway?

I knew he was a great guy really, we should buy loads more of his players at over market value to show how grateful we are.

 Maybe make him a global club ambassador or something.

Personally I'd call getting a transfer ban for illegal transfer activities 'an unmitigated disaster'. As well as being highly embarrassing.

I would too except the ban was not due to illegal transfer activities. More irritating than embarrassing and entirely down to the current board - even if they won everything

As for Chelsea being 'effective' is this transfer window? Trololololololololol

Chelsea are the current Premiership title holders and reinforced with Pedro & Rahman - what else does a club with money to spend & an already huge roster need atm?

How has he played a blinder? It's all Madrid's fault according to all the latest info. Nothing to do with Ed.

Other than being a model professional who has been told he needs to play to be picked for his country.

Motivation maybe there, but its not as simple as it seems. Everyone knows his heart wasn't here. Imagine he has a bad game or poor run of form, what will everyone think of him? Will the manager, players and fans still fully behind him during bad patches? Remember Di Maria last season? There's also another issue of putting the trust on a disloyal player for an important role too. For an outfiled player maybe it is still fine sometimes, but keeper need to be fully focused all the time, its no good for a keeper to have other off-field or on-field distractions during the game.

Well maybe not us on our own, seems like both sides messed about.

Well they didn't get their player for a change, I imagine they aren't overly impressed.
How are United to be blamed for it? We needed an in-principle agreement with Navas before we sold De Gea. Once that was in place we concluded our end of transfer and informed the FA. Madrid for some reason either were unable to do the same. Either it was a conscious decision by Madrid to not upload the transfer documents of De Gea or it was just shit luck for them that by the time they started uploading the document, it was past the deadline and the system would not accept it.

In either of this scenario, United cannot be blamed.

Yeah let's play Liverpool with Romero as our starting goalie. What could possibly go wrong...?

All this talk of ultimatums is a bit silly. Ronaldo called himself a 'slave' for being told to honour his contract. We all knew after forcing Ronnie to stay in summer 2008, he was going to Madrid the very next summer. Still, did you care when he scored that diving header to make it 3-2 in the 5-2 game against Spurs?

De Gea's future is probably elsewhere but while he's here lets use him. Had De Gea played against Swansea we would have won that game 1-0. Who cares where he goes at the end of the season. I'm interested in the games we are going to play before the end of the season. Games De Gea could save us and Romero will lose us.

If he's training well I think we should be playing him. If he's in the same form he has been in over the past couple of seasons it could be the difference between getting top 4/a trophy or not. If we get to Christmas and he still doesn't want to stay then try and put a deal together for a replacement for next year. If he stays professional on the pitch I think we have got our value out of him over the years. Transfer fees are just paying a club to end a contract we don't own him and if he wants to go back to Spain that's his choice. He's taken a much smaller wage by staying on this original contract than what he's deserved being our POTY. If he decides to sign a new contract it's just a bonus.

But did they strengthen.

Even Wenger suggested that though there is lots of money about, there isn't a lot of quality that will strengthen the big teams. Therefore, you are forced to do what United did and spend on potential - a bit of a gamble. Arsenal have a decade of history on taking gambles on potential, some worked others didn't, but they didn't spend money at today's level. If United, Chelsea, and Arsenal were not willing to spend on the likes of Reus and Griezmann, then it suggests that though they may be very good players, the investment doesn't make sense.

Maybe. But there's no guarantee he will give his all for us this season, and recreates last season form. His mind isn't here with us at all.

Thats a bit like saying a racing driver wont give 100% in a race. A racing drivers natural instinct is to go as fast as they can, they cant do it any other way. Its the same for a goalie, put him on the pitch and he will do his best, because he cant do it any other way.

I guess he already had agreed personal terms with Madrid while everyone knew the price at which he could leave. What could go wrong? So he waited for months for Madrid to get to action, which happened the last day of the transfer period. I can understand that he wasn't totally focused on Manchester when you are in the illusion to get your transfer ASAP and having your bags packed already with a nice new shiny suit.

There have been several twitter reports claiming that Navas reached out to us yesterday to see if he could still push through a transfer. That's my summer, right there.

If we could somehow find ourselves looking at a situation where Real Madrid have completely put off de Gea on moving there, to the point of re-upping with us, on top of burning bridges between themselves and Navas...why, that's would make this truly the bestest transfer window, and the bestest deadline day of all time.

However, I'm completely skeptical as to the 100% validity of any of this info.

Because he agent gets a slice of the pie. No interest in his client, just cash for himself.

You dont know that, if DDG gets his spot back in our first XI and does his business as usual they both can get an incredibly high signing on fee.

Previously it had been suggested that De Gea was completely pissed off with Mendes for not having sorted the move earlier btw.

Now we are to believe it's all Madrid's fault and Mendes did nothing wrong and is now advising De Gea stays after all.

You couldn't make this shit up.

5 year contract, no buyout clause. Get it done in the next few days and get him back between the sticks for the Liverpool game.

Would be brilliant if he signed a new contract. He won't stay beyond next summer but Madrid would have to pay a proper fee for him then.

Even if he doesn't go to Madrid he'll go somewhere else eventually, his girlfriend doesn't want to live in Manchester does she? We can get him on a new contract but I don't think we can keep him here long term.

Doubt he will be back in the first time without showing his commitment by signing a new deal.

NO HE WON'T HAVE.

Madrid will have played a stinker.

That depends on the outcome. Ultimately according to you, if we played it right - De Gea would be a Madrid player? Whatever you think - Madrid are rightly being blamed and we're in a strong position in getting him to renew his contract

Just get him to sign a deal and get an honest amount for him at the end of the season. Should have been the way it went from the start that he signs a contract and we get paid for the best keeper in the world

Yeah but you can't credit Woodward for that. He was ready and willing to sell. He couldn't have predicted Madrid fecking it up. If, as a result, De Gea does sign a new contract well that's just dumb luck.

The most mental thing in all of this is the idea - whether rumour or not I don't know - that Madrid killed the deal due to the fans poll which complained about getting rid of Navas. They'd have been buying arguably one of the best keepers in the world and certainly the best keeper in the world who would be willing to join them. The fans would soon have forgotten about Navas. Instead the may have kicked the can down the road hoping it'll have solved itself by this time next year when they sign him for free.

The hubris would be incredibly satisfying. Especially if Navas is feeling suitably unwanted by club management that he takes his eye off the ball (hopefully literally)
