Yeah I'm grand thanks.
Routine is boring people, will be cool to see a world cup at winter.
Platini voted for Qatar, and he'll be the new president of FIFA. He has close links with Qatar. It won't happen in Qatar. Russia yes as there's not enough time to correct that, but Qatar is 7 years off. My best guess is Blatter and his cronies will go down this year, new leadership will come in and as an act of transparency, rebid the 2022 WC.
Hopefully the clubs boycott it, leading to Fifa trying to ban their players, which leads to court cases and the end of international football.![]()
This won't go ahead.
Clubs should refuse to release their players
I really do not see the fuss about it.
It's going to disrupt 3 seasons of club football which is far more important than one international tournament.
I so do not agree with that. Where else can you see all the great players together in one tournament. Not even CL
What? If anything its the CL where you get to see the greatest players in one tournament and not the World Cup. Plenty of great players might not be at the WC if their teams don't qualify, e.g. Bale, Ibra. The best players will always move to the biggest clubs though, and are pretty much guaranteed to feature in the CL (with exceptions like United last year).I so do not agree with that. Where else can you see all the great players together in one tournament. Not even CL
It will finish late, but not really later than a summer tournament would, so I guess the 23/24 season can start more or less as usual. The bigger question is in my opinion: Will the Africa Cup and the Copa America be played in 2023? Surely those two can't be played that year?I suspect there will be 3 seasons of disruption to fit this in. The one beforehand will have to start early so it can finish early, to allow for an even earlier start to the 2022/3 season.
That 22/23 season will finish late due to the month missing in December, pushing back everything else including both FA and League cups. This means that the 23/24 season will also need a delayed start to allow rest between the two seasons.
So, it's not the 2022 World Cup, is it? It's the 2021 World Cup.

It'll be much later.
International teams usually get a period of at least 4 weeks to train together and acclimatise pre-tournament and there is usually at least 4 weeks before the players who play in the final are expected to return for their clubs.
Now either the international teams and players get none of these luxuries and they're thrown into the tournament and then back to their domestic leagues without any rest or "pre-tournament/pre-season" or you can add at least 2 more weeks either side of the 28 days.
Then what happens to the Copa America?
Usually a season with a World Cup at the end finishes in the 2nd half of May. If they start the 2022/23 season 2 weeks earlier and let it finish in the first week of July, you have 8 additional weeks and can start the 2023/24 season as always in early August after 4 weeks break. That's not really a big problem and the 8 weeks should be enough for 4 weeks World Cup, 2 weeks preparation and 2 weeks rest afterwards. If FIFA allows to reduce the number of international games played during the season further, no friendlies and only the necessary qualifying games for the next tournament, the leagues could get another week or even two back. I'm sure something like that will happen. It'll be much later.

Forgot about the Asian Cup. Isn't the Gold Cup also played every two seasons in all the odd-numbered years? I'd say it's at least as big a problem for the FIFA calender for international football as it is for the leagues. What a fecking mess. They might be forced to change the dates for 4 of the 5 continental tournaments.Pretty sure the Asian cup is supposed to be in 2023 as well. Which means several other international tournaments and domestic seasons will be severely affected

But yes, what happens to the Copa America is the big question. Same with the Africa Cup, which is scheduled for January 2023 if I'm not mistaken. You can't play more than one international tournament each season. It would be crazy if they didn't shift the Copa America to 2024 (which also kinda sucks, because surely they don't want it to be held at the same time as the Euro).
Well yeah, obviously. A World Cup during the season will also hurt the top clubs in the leagues, therefore we could see totally ridiculous results in all the leagues that season (which would be fun for a change, but for the wrong reasons). It's a complete clusterfeck to organise everything around it. The actual European leagues are going to be ridiculous, players are going to be tired and struggling for motivation in one tournament or another and quality will suffer.
You see more great players in UCL than in World Cup.I so do not agree with that. Where else can you see all the great players together in one tournament. Not even CL
What a terribe argument. Those workers didn't die in order for us to get a World Cup. They died in work, and went in work in order to provide money for their families. Cancelling the World Cup won't make things any better or worse, people will still continue dying inQatar cause of terrible work conditions.Whilst the idea of the WC being held in Qatar always was ridiculous, if it is cancelled, all those construction workers will have lost their lives in vain if it doesn't take place.
The teams are better too.You see more great players in UCL than in World Cup.
You can't have four weeks between one season finishing and the next starting. Are we to just forgoe pre season?Usually a season with a World Cup at the end finishes in the 2nd half of May. You can start training after a 3 week break at the end of July and start the games mid August after 3 weeks pre-season though. The first Premier League game after the World Cup 2014 was on August 16th. Even if it starts a week later, it's not really a big deal. The 2023/24 season won't be affected all that much in my opinion. The chaos is before that, unless they plan to play the continental tournaments in the summer of 2023. But that would be insane even by FIFA's standards and simply won't work whatever they try.You can't have four weeks between one season finishing and the next starting. Are we to just forgoe pre season?
Why? Those countries aren't fit to host a major international tournament.Unpopular opinion but I like how this paves the way and sets precedent for countries like Algeria Iran and India getting the World Cup
I think it's a farce. They seem to be forgetting the reason they're so wealthy is due to the people who watch the games. You can start training after a 3 week break at the end of July and start the games mid August after 3 weeks pre-season though. Football will be back to normal afterwards soon enough, I'm sure about that. The 2021/22 and the 2022/23 season itself will be affected signficantly. Not that it makes it any better of course, it's still a fecked up situation, no doubt about that.
I am optimistic enough to hope they will be one day. And as a WORLD cup, its only right that they get a chance once they have their other issues sorted. We have to work around seasonsWhy? Those countries aren't fit to host a major international tournament.
