Really happy for him, 4 goals in 4 games (all free kicks). The new Juninhio? :D

I expected so much more attacking flair from him though, he's hardly doing what he did at Shakhtar. Maybe if he was under Wenger he could have really flourished in goals/assists.

He's a good dribbler and works hard, but doesn't score much for a player in good position.

Also, I don't think he meant that goal today.

I think he'd be better if he had a good right back alongside him. He's always covering for Ivanovic which limits him.

Is it just me or do half Chelsea fans on this forum not identify themselves as Chelsea fans?

I guess it's like being gay in a religious family... Life will be easier if you just keep it to yourself.

He's a much better player then he's given credit for.

Never saw that much of him at Shahktar but I've liked him ever since he arrived at Chelsea. He's just so supremely well-rounded. Sometimes you can say that about Mourinho players and it's a bit of an insult, in that he's chosen them over more talented players because they also bring work rate and defensive nous. But Willian really is fairly good at almost everything. Good engine, good attitude, skilful, pacy, defensively capable, and can score goals. Plus apparently he's not a bad free-kick taker.

He's probably the second player of theirs that I'd take at United, given free choice. After Hazard, of course.

I'm a United fan, have been one for a long time, I just like Willian as a player and the fact that he has had criticism before and is dealing with it well atm.

Do you not like players from other clubs?
No I'd rather see Arsenal, City and Chelsea players play shit when we are competing with them. Do you celebrate when he scores? :wenger:

He's exactly the type of player who is chosen over more talented players because of his work rate though. Mata was a much better player for them than he is.

Football is rapidly changing game, many fans support players just as much as clubs. I don't see what's wrong with it, especially if you have a legit reason like me. I'm a die hard united fan, watch all the games - even preseason, but when a player I like scores, no matter who for of course I'm happy, especially as the team he's scoring for, atm doesn't have a hope in hell of finishing ahead of us.

Was semi-joking.

I do, but not really any players at direct domestic rivals. There are some seemingly decent blokes - like Silva, Sanchez who I wouldn't mind at United etc...but I can't say that I am really happy for them when they're doing well at their clubs.

But not a criticism. Each to their own. Was just wondering, that's all.

They're 5 points behind as it stands and we have Arsenal away tomorrow!

I like Silva and Yaya Toure at City for example but I much prefer seeing them play bad. Don't understand your mentality

I agree Mata was and is better, but perhaps not by as much as people think. When you take into account pace, strength, work-rate, stamina, defensive ability and versatility - all of which go in Willian's favour - they're not so far apart. It's easy to prefer Mata because he's absurdly skilful. He suits us much better, but I think overall Mourinho was probably right to let him go in favour of bringing in someone like Willian. He suits them.

He managed two goals and three assists in 36 matches last season. He's scoring a few free kicks now though so he must be alright

Such a weird viewpoint.

We'll agree to disagree but I watch football for the entertainment value, watching teams with players I like is entertaining.

You just said Willian wasn't preferred over other players because of his work rate though, then went on to say the reason he's better suited than Mata is because of exactly that...:wenger:

I don't think it's weird to enjoy watching players that don't necessarily play for your own club. Everyone has their preferences. Personally I'd prefer all the big teams in the league to be firing on all cylinders with us leading the pack, but that's just me. I don't think you need to enjoy seeing rivals and their players falter- that's far more strange.

He's average but in a good vein of form.
that's a big overstatement, saying he's average. He's in the same bracket as for example Herrera or someone like Welbeck, crucial player to your team, working extremely hard, providing all round performance, quite underrated, still waiting a bit more from all of them... All players can be replaced but every team needs this kind of player for the sake of working as a unit IMO.

Well said, and thanks for having my back

He seems to be good at freekicks yet couldn't hit a barn door from open play if his life depended on it. He wastes too many chances.

Of course it isn't.

Willian doing well, and by extension Chelsea, is directly opposed to our own ambitions. Arguing otherwise is pointless.

He was unlucky to be dropped in the first place tbf.

I doubt it. I've never met anyone who supports rival players and is happy when they are scoring.

So what you're saying is it's impossible for Willian to do well and Chelsea not to do well? Because that's wrong.

fecking hell

If you need someone to tell you that teams tend to do better when their players play well for them then whats the point?

Yes but in reality his goals are having an impact on their results.
