James Wilson | On Loan to Brighton and Hove Albion

This is not great news IMO. We're playing Fellaini as a backup striker and we only have Rooney and Martial...well Martial...as genuine number 9s. That would bother me if I was Wilson. I don't think LVG rates him

He needs to go on loan to develop. How many strikers we have doesn't matter, not the reason to hold him back sitting on the bench or not even in squad.Memphis/Lingard will play there if needed. They are not better striker than Wilson but we won't need to use that option much.

Pathetic, we're in a dire situation with forwards and we're letting Wilson go just as the Christmas period is coming up. The club is pathetic at the moment, why on earth haven't we kept him for the early rounds of the FA Cup at least.

What are we going to do, keep him around as an option for his entire career and never let him play? He clearly isn't going to get played and hasn't got played, Rooney, Martial, Fellaini, Memphis, Lingard and maybe even some others will be played instead. He is wasting enough time, he can't sit around a whole season for an FA cup game or two. He needs to play and he can only do that by going on loan.

He could have been an asset over the Christmas period when everyone is out on their arse, what's a month in a career. He could have gone out on loan mid January.

Given the lack of depth to the squad it's a stupid move at this time.

Hmmm... Good news for James, I guess. When he didn't start against Watford it was obvious he's so far down the pecking order he has to leave to get games.

Nah he got a knock.

Rashford will see some times on the bench from now on I guess.

Wilson is not good enough at this level - at least not yet
He hasnt impressed at all with quite some chances he got from LVG, just like Januzaj. Why do people rewrite history when players leave or go on loan, now it's Januzaj who would be our saviour but he was garbage for us last season.. So strange, Wilson got potential but he's still way to light for PL football.

Always had high hopes for this player, and still do, you'd think he's gone to a club now where he can get regular gametime and progress, unlike Januzaj with Dortmund, I still think he could be a special player.

Hopefully he takes the chance to properly develop. Hopefully this also means that we'll sign someone in January. Stupid that we didn't do this in the summer though.

Hughton is a good manager and Brighton are playing much more attractive football under him. Zamora doesn't really have a full ninety minutes in him any more and I'm confident Wilson will get plenty of game time, if he stays fit. Going to the Brighton v Birmingham game on Saturday so I hope to see him involved.

But I thought the reason our squad was so thin was so players like Wilson could get a chance?

I know he is not quite ready for Premier league football week in week out and a loan will benefit him but it still makes you laugh that the team who struggles to score loans a striker out especially when we have no real out and out strikers in the first team squad at all. Also I think it should have been done in January and not now.

Maybe Januzaj will return and him and Memphis will be backup number 9 options.

If he gets games, this is a good call. I'm all for it, could of happened sooner though

Considering our lack of depth in forward positions, this is pretty telling. I'd be surprised to see him back.

Good form him. He was way back in the line after Rooney, Martial, Fellaini, Memphis, Lingard for the forward position.

LVG reaching maximum trolling levels with his managerial style. Should have let Wilson go out on loan in summer... Or preferably not at all given that we had to endure the tall Everton midfielder playing up front on Wednesday.
One injury to the impotent Rooney or over-pressured Martial and we're back to shoehorning wingers into the number 9.
Good on Wilson though, hope it's good for him.

I'm hoping to see more from Memphis as a striker and Wilson definitely needs first team football now. Good move and there is the option to recall.

Hes had a chance and shown hes not ready. He needs some regular football at a level below the Premier League.

VAN GAAL ON DECISION TO SEND WILSON ON LOAN
Louis van Gaal admits he was thinking about the long-term benefits of James Wilson when he allowed the 19-year-old Manchester United striker to join Brighton and Hove Albion on loan.

Wilson has only made two senior appearances this season by coming on as a substitute in the Barclays Premier League defeat at Arsenal and the Capital One Cup loss to Middlesbrough. As a result, the boss has agreed a deal for the youth player to join Brighton until the end of the season.

Van Gaal was asked to explain the thinking behind his decision during his weekly press conference at the Aon Training Complex on Friday. Although he accepts some fans may question the call, given that United have struggled for goals of late, he remains convinced it is the right thing to do.

“Until now he didn't contribute so much,” van Gaal told reporters on Friday. “He played a few minutes in the Premier League and a few in the Capital One Cup and was not always in the selection of the squad of 18 players. Players of his age need to play and I can imagine that fans are saying that this is ridiculous, they have difficulties to score, but that is a short-term thought.

“We have to think what is better for a player like Wilson and at the moment he does not have too many possibilities to play on a higher level. We believe in him so he has to develop himself elsewhere. If we need him, we can call him back.”

Van Gaal was speaking two days after United’s goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League, which was the club’s fourth stalemate in seven matches across all competitions.

In his press conference, the boss admitted he is worried about fans being critical of performances but was quick to emphasise the reasons why he is confident of progressing in the coming matches.

“Of course, because the fans have to be happy and you are playing for the fans, you cannot deny that,” said van Gaal. “But you have to see how our opponents are playing against us and when you see how they play then you know the difficulty to disorganise that opponent - it is very difficult.

“We are still not lucky with finishing chances because we are creating chances, if we weren't creating them then maybe I am very worried, but we are creating the chances and we don't give too much away. Normally the result will be good then and that is why we are second in the league and second in our Champions League group.”

It mentions that Wilson has a recall clause in his loan, so we haven't completely lost him this season. This could work out well for everyone.

45 minutes this season in a lifeless display against Middlesbrough. Not exactly much faith. I'm so glad we sold all our strikers to allow him that game time.

He'd have got more game time if he was fit when the chances came but it's not worked out that way. Would have preferred for this to happen in January after the busy Christmas period.

In fairness, VG admitted that letting Wilson go out on loan leaves us a bit short, but it's best for his development.

1 goal in his last 14 appearances.

Like LVG said, the most important thing is whats best for his development. If it leaves us a little short then so be it. Its not like Wilson in his current form is going to make much difference either.

Yeah, his sporadic playing time has definitely been conducive to a good scoring record.

Played really well, had 4 chances in the 30 minutes he played , 1 saved, 1 hit post, 1 skimmed post, 1 blocked by defender. Charlton at home next Saturday

Uh oh...

James Ducker: Giggs frustrated with Van Gaal over Wilson

http://www.football365.com/news/giggs-frustrated-with-van-gaal-over-wilson-report
I've had it tbh. Ed and Glazers need to decide who the manager is - Giggs or LVG. Can't have both of them at loggerheads - not good for the team. Can't believe Giggs allowed his name in this article, blatant disrespect. Club needs to sort it out and decide who they want to keep. Maybe then we'll have less of the tittle tattle.

How do you know Giggs allowed it, there are no quotes in the article.

The article specifically mentions his name. Doubt that would happen without Giggs' say so
