Shooting in San Bernardino, California

More cowards killing unarmed innocent civilians. Hope they can capture them alive and torture them for a few years.

Ah for fecks sake, can we not go a week without some mad bastards killing people? It's nearly Christmas ffs.

its very difficult for me to have sympathy because America brings this upon herself with her gun laws. This is the collateral damage you have to account for when virtually anyone can get hold of a gun.

 So the people that live there have themselves to blame? It's not obligatory to own a gun over there, so there are bunches of people without. I would guess people with disabilities wouldn't be to hard to give some sympathy in this situation..

That's not only incredibly cold it also makes no sense.

It's crazy to think stuff like this can happen anywhere in this country. Gives one pause everytime this comes on the news, and I do a quick check of my rolodex to ensure no one I know is in the vicinity.

I get what you're saying regarding the gun laws...but victims of crime, NEVER ask for it. Your statement unfortunately sounds like...'they got what was coming to them'.

Plus nobody I know got killed in San Bernadino CA, I gotta say it was a good day.

I'll be honest it scares the shit out of me and I don't even live there I 'just' have friends and family there.

When you have a law that states everyone has the right to own a weapon that can cause mass killings, it follows that a tiny minority of people will misuse it for their own agenda. Surely that has to be calculated and accounted for when setting up such a law.

As for being cold, not really. Of course its horrific and tragic for the individuals and their families, I'd be beside myself if the life of a loved one was stolen from me like this.

But on a societal level, I refer to the point I made above. America really has to sort this gun ownership issue out with a fundamental restructuring of its culture. As technology and incomes continue to increase, so the destructive power and availability of guns will increase. We are very close to the tipping point in the US where these events are an every day occurrence.

Madness. Absolute madness. Why do these people do these things?

It makes no sense to say you're devoid of sympathy for victims because of the laws of their country. Extrapolate that logic to other counties and think about what you're saying.

We need to start arming people with autism and other severe learning disabilities so that they can protect themselves.

At a macro societal level, this is what happens when guns are so freely available. I'm 100% anti guns, I hate them, never want to own one and am scared of people who do own them. One of the reasons I would never live in the US is because of this fear.

I accept that guns exist illegally in all countries, but as long as I stay away from shady people and area's, it's highly unlikely I'll be affected. In the USA, however, that is not true.

America's gun culture is broken, as well as the money behind politics that enables it. But what you said initially sounds along the lines of those people blaming rape victims for dressing attractively.

As I said, individually its horrific, however, only Americans sorting out this issue for themselves will make any difference.

This is just mental. I was in San Bernardino with friends driving to watch Boyz n the Hood in 1991 when there was a drive by shooting. Only found out the next day what it was all about. I think one person died. That was my first week in California.

Huh?! Thats quite a leap!

How are the republican and gun nuts going to blame mental illness for this one?

You say that like its down to the general populus.

Well if Im correct, the majority of Americans believe gun ownership for all should remain, despite these events happening on a regular basis for several decades. Even in the most recent gun debate initiated by the Obama Democrat government, a majority wanted to retain the right to bear arms. Or have I mistaken that?

If Im right, then yes, the general populous knows the risks and is willing to put up with it.

Look, I don't know why you are making me out to be the bad guy here! I hate guns or any weapons for that matter, and Im in no way condoning their use! Most societies in the the world have made gun ownershi illegal by the common man.

America chooses not to. That comes at a societal cost - thats all Im saying.

But this would never happen in a country where everyone has guns to defend themselves?

You're half right, at least. The prevalence of guns certainly increases the chance of this sort of violent incident but it is worth noting that they almost always occur in places where guns are not allowed.

You said it's hard to be sympathetic and referred to the victims as collateral damage, that's why you're the bad guy right now.
