Woeful finishing yet again. I don't know that this can all be LVG's fault. Had god knows how many shots in that game and the keeper made one save.
Most of the shots were pot shots from distance. He signs the players, he coaches them. If he can't be held accountable for how they perform then what is he accountable for? And what does he actually get paid for?

I'm happy they tried. When was the last time we had such 2-3 good goal scoring opportunities? Maybe it's one of the recent games, but we've been so boring to watch that none of that sticks on my mind. This wasn't that boring a 0-0, thanks to..... West Ham.

I'm done with him. Decent performance and the draw is down on the players today, but it stems from him. 7th game where we haven't scored this season, five 0-0 draws in our last 9, 6 overall this season... It's fecking awful and not something that we should ever hear at United. Everything is just too possession oriented and it's like we don't train attacking at all. The players choose the wrong option every single fecking time. I just really hope he's not here next season, because even if his results get us in the champions league, challenge for the title, it's so tedious to watch. I watch United to be entertained and because I love watching football, but feck me, our games have become such a chore to watch.

For what it's worth, I'm glad we had him to set the foundations, but they're set, very clearly, because we have 60-70% possession all the time and rarely concede. We need an attacking manager who can encourage creating a lot of chances and taking risks.

You found tonight's game boring?

This wasn't a typical 0-0. Surely you see that? Both teams should have scored and we should have won.

not sure maybe 3-3 or 4-4 would have been a fair shout.

Loads? We had about 2 or 3 good chances
Fellaini, Martial and Lingard should all have surely have scored. Then there was that Mata shot, the block off Martial's shot. That's 5 clear cut chances.
And who's the reason for just signing one striker this summer and letting two go?

We have enough strikers. Shame 1 is shite though. Look around and see how many top teams that play with 1 striker have more than 2 good ones.

Picks the wrong players. Play is far too slow (methodical isn't bad if it involves speed in the final third).

He's making me do a complete 180 on him. I never thought I would call him a fraud but he's tempting me.

Van Gaal entering Sexton territory.

We were not supposed to repeat the mistakes of the past once Fergie left. You can make all the plans in the world...

How can anyone blame him tonight? We created loads of chances and missed each and every fecking one of them.

He picks the team, he picked Fellaini... An Everton midfielder playing upfront for Utd; Van Gall that.
He also sold off and loaned out a shed load of attacking players leaving our squad thinner than Ashley Young's ankles.
His mythical philosophy has neutered any natural attacking instinct and neutralised creative players.

I don't blame him today at all. How can you if you actually watched the game? There was only one team trying to win that game and force the issue. The problem right now is our quality/composure in front of goal, not the system or the manager.

Because it's the 5th time in the last 9 games that we've drawn 0-0. And 7th time this season where we haven't scored. Today was the players choosing the wrong option and not finishing, but picking the wrong option almost every single time stems from the training ground IMO.

 Trying should go without saying. the fact they tried so hard but were still hopeless is the really sobering part.

Not a chance. He is here until the end of the year no matter what.

What? Until Dec 31?! Anyway, we've got some difficult fixtures after the Norwich game, so top four could become a scramble, now if we're beaten by Wolfsburg and all...

The philosophy has officially failed. Maybe it works in Germany or Spain where the game is generally slower but it's not getting results here.

7th time this season we haven't scored. That's not down to the players. That's 100% on the manager and his style he sets out. Sure, sometimes it's bad luck/finishing, but not when it happens so often. We're one of the worst in the league in creating chances which is disgraceful with our set of players and resources.

Van Gaal could have signed attackers in the summer. He let guys like Van Persie and Di Maria leave without replacing them.

Depay and Martial should have been bought in to supplement the above replacements. Not be direct replacements.

Everyone on the forum was not happy with the attack.

True but theres only so much he can do in regards to transfer negotiations. I just cant hold him solely responsible for that or the underperforming individuals in the current attack.

Its clear we have been more positive in our approach in the last few games but the quality has not been their in the final third.

As someone who has defended him a lot, I have to say that I feel the tide is beginning to turn against him now. A season and a half has passed now and we still look hopeless in attack. Fans are beginning to show their discontent, ex players are coming out in droves against our style, and we could possibly go out of the CL this week.

There's being not great in attack, and then there's looking lost for scoring goals week after week.

And I have to say I'm beginning to have more questions too. If a manager can't get us attack to "decent", forget "great" after a season in a half, then there is some cause of concern. I'm going to wait and see how we do over the festive period but I doubt a 4th place scrap will see him keeping his job. He has to work some magic over the next few weeks IMO. I don't think meandering can work at a club of United's size.

Fellaini, Martial and Lingard should all have surely have scored. Then there was that Mata shot, the block off Martial's shot. That's 5 clear cut chances.

I'd say 3 were clear cut, the other two were good/decent chances. But frankly, at home to West Ham, that isn't enough.

Give him until the end of the season, sacking him now will only cause more unrest and chaos. What will we do then, Giggs caretaker until the end of the season? We won't even get top four like thAt.

Have van Gaal steer us to a top four finish and if he improves and does better than that, keep him. If the boredom continues we can start getting Guardiola signed by the end of the season.

well we are in 3rd - and we are hard to beat. fecking great stuff:wenger:

Playing Fellaini instead of Depay or someone else better suited was a spineless cautious decision...at home. For that alone, he has annoyed me today.

The goalposts keep moving with LVG. When he started the general consensus was that his goal was to get us back in the top four his first season, mount a serious title challenge his second, and win the title his third.

All of a sudden another top four finish seems to be the goal?

Maybe. I'm more bothered about Van Gaal getting the blame for inept finishing tonight.

Yeah I'm leaning that way. You can't deny that he's built a solid core for us but I just can't see anyway that this is the best these players can do from an attacking point of view and he seems either too stubborn or simply unable to see it.We're not getting any better from an attacking point of view, it's the same problems again and again. We don't need him gone now but if someone like Pep wants to come I just can't see how you could say no.

It's going to get nasty if we crash of the CL on Tuesday. A critical game in the reign of Van Gaal.

I don't blame him today at all. How can you if you actually watched the game? There was only one team trying to win that game and force the issue. The problem right now is our quality/composure in front of goal, not the system or the manager.
You obviously missed West Ham should have scored at least 3 goals.

I've been a supporter of van Gaal so far. I've tried to look at the positives. He's doing some things right. We're defending well. We're dominating the ball in most games. Plenty of youth are getting their shot.

But the buck stops with him and we are neither entertaining nor threatening. We can't score goals. Depay scored plenty last season. Rooney is our second all-time top scorer. Martial looked so clinical until he actually adjusted to our system. Mata and Herrera have decent goal scoring records from midfield. The players have to take a lot of the blame. I'm not absolving them. But we have spent a lot of money. The kind of money we'd lagh at other teams for spending. And we can not buy a goal at the moment.

I'm not a Klopp fan boy. I think he's a decent manager but I'm not going overboard the way others have. But he has done more positive at Liverpool in a month with no new signings than van Gaal has at United with three transfer windows and hundreds of millions of pounds.
Obviously, if we miss out on top four, he would have to go. But I'd hope we're looking at other options regardless of what happens.

I hope I'm proven wrong and all of a sudden we become clinical in front of goal. I really do. I hope we start scoring freely. That along with our decent defence and ability to dominate the ball would make us major title contenders. But I just can't see it. This season was an opportunity to go and win a league, despite not having the best squad. Other teams are faltering and we're just as bad. And looking at us at the moment, it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that we miss out on top four.

I've been positive about van Gaal, but I'm really, really starting to lose patience.

I'd say 3 were clear cut, the other two were good/decent chances. But frankly, at home to West Ham, that isn't enough.

Its more than enough to win. Not scoring even 1 of them is all on the players and not the manager. Martial, Mata and Lingard didnt even hit the target, ridiculous.

I don't blame him today at all. How can you if you actually watched the game? There was only one team trying to win that game and force the issue. The problem right now is our quality/composure in front of goal, not the system or the manager.

But who spend so much money and ending up with Rooney and Martial as our only strikers? He's fault we don't score.

Gonna be a mighty struggle to get top 4 again. How has it come to this?

You have to give him that ''theatre of dreams'' have never been more true than under his reign.

Good to see some fans are enjoying the swarm of chances we apparently create though.

There are managers in our own league playing far better football and close to our points total with a squad with half the talent of ours.

I am talking about the blame he's getting for tonight only.

really i'm more bothered by our shit form and a bad result away from being out of CL , sorry but we look shit under LVG. a draw was in the cards. 0-0was a good bet in the end.

Say what you want about the style but the players aren't producing going forward. Full backs do feck all, Fellaini slows everything down, Mata doesnt show any match winning quality.

Frustrating that we dont have anyone else to fall back on either, seeing as Rooney and Young have all been equally useless cnuts.

Memphis, Martial and Lingard are all young and inconsistent.

Is it reaaly a suprise we dont create or score enough with such a lack of outstanding quality?

You say this but he bought/didn't sell these players. He's left himself short and we all knew that in the summer.

Some poor finishing today but it took us forever to create decent chances again. For most of the match we were lacking in creativity.

Wasn't until we threw Memphis on and had Martial/Lingaard in that attacking triumvate before we created some good chances.

Nonetheless, you have to blame LVG because he has created a culture in which our players are passive in attack and do not take gambles. You cant even say we are defensively solid because west ham missed at least 2 sitters today. The result doesn't reflect the truth.

 Trying should go without saying. the fact they tried so hard but were still hopeless is the really sobering part.
Hmm no, we didn't look bothered in our previous 0-0 during the closing minutes. Which was disgraceful. Today though, we managed to create a chance or two, so it was less depressing to see but for the finishing maybe. Regardless, 5 or so 0-0's in less than 10 games is simply unacceptable.
