If the players aren't playing for him that suggests, as I said earlier, that this is not something he can turn around. If its true they are not giving their all, because they dislike Van Gaal's 'process' and his 'philosophy', then no matter how much time he has he will fail. The only alternative would be to replace the entire squad, which is something we've pretty much already done for him once before. How many times are we going to have to recycle players until we get a squad that will respond well to his madness? Given he's only contracted for another 18 months, it seems to me that the smart thing to do would be to fire Van Gaal and get someone else in to manage the players.
Agreed, there is blame on both sides IMO.
I'm not going to argue against that, I don't have much faith in things turning around... but the claim was that we looked a less shameful side under Moyes, with no point made of their past merits.
After reading my post you're MORE embarassed? I mean, we're not setting the world alight, but at least we're still in the top 4, and we're not looking straight up easy to beat.
Seriously, people need to think back to what we looked like under Moyes. There were a good number of matches where we looked good, went forward and attacked with purpose, were frustrated by the opposition and what seemed like bad luck, and then somewhere around the 20 minute mark they break and make their first attack and score. This seemed like rotten luck, but it happened too many times to be a coincidence, teams had our number.
I remember watching full halves of matches, with us trailing, and not feeling like we might nab a goal, not for a second. Under LvG we don't look inspiring, but at least there are moments where we look like we might nick a goal. That's more than I can say for a vast swathe of the matches under Moyes.
LvG picked up the pieces and stopped us from looking like the town bike. It took a lot of millions, but Moyes wouldn't manage that much had he spent the same amount. This is the man who settled for Fellaini and tried to get Rio to study how Jagielka does things, and wanted us as a club to learn from City.
I'm conflicted as all hell about LvG right now, about whether I want him to be able to finish the season and whether he's all that as a manager... but never in a million years would I concede that Moyes is better.
ITs not the result today that's the problem. OK, 2-1 against Bournemouth is never going to be great, but with a large part of our best side missing, it can be accepted. Its much deeper than the result today;
1. We've played a side that has one of the worst defences in the league and who are extremely open at the back, and we've managed to score 1 bundled goal, whilst creating little else.
2. The football was so poor.
3. There was no passion, leadership or effort.
4. We've got bossed by a side that have just came up from the Championship missing their three best players.
5. LVG just sits there, doing sweet FA.
6. Some absolutely ludicrous substitutions.
7. Pretty much every player was woeful.
This is all down to LVG. And that's not even considering our woeful performance in Europe or LVG's nonsense press conferences. He's got to go.

I have calmed down a bit and actually agree with you. But that commitment as a team just wasn't there. It was so heartbreaking seeing the other team take it to us and step on our throats the second half. LVG seems to have lost the dressing room.
This, and more, how the squad was allowed to run down the way it was is criminal. We've spent a shit load of money trying to play catch up with the squad, succession planning for the squad doesn't seem to be evident for the last 6-7 years.
You'll get no argument from me, but even so, that means we're in a decent position in the league in spite of Van Gaal. All these injuries haven't helped him but it's starting to look like some of them -Rooney's for example, might not be as serious as is being made out.
To be fair there aren't many sides that haven't got a result against Chelsea this season. They got stuffed by City & Spurs the sides we are meant to be competing with. Anyway like I said it's fine if you think they are good we can disagree. Before the win today they were down with Newcastle & Sunderland. If we don't get results against sides of that quality who are we going to beat.

And to the point of matching us on goals scored it isn't exactly hard the way we have been playing. How many have they let in this season?
5-6 of the players on the pitch were from the u21s, so I don't know if we can read in to their reactions and say he lost the dressing room. They were a bit of a mish mash bunch that didn't have a game plan in the second half, looked disorganised, but surely that is to be expected when mata carrick and blind are the only experienced players, and I think we all agree that blind at CB is a bit of a liability even then, although don't mind when we have 3 other strong players in there with him
We are in a decent position, which is why we should sack him. If Van Gaal goes, and the new manager gives the lads a shot in the arm, we might yet win something this year. Why hold onto him until we are languishing somewhere between Europa League qualification and mid-table mediocrity? Even if the new boss has the buy in of the players, if we're already out of contention by time he comes in a strong end of the season will be meaningless. 10 games unbeaten to finish sixth? What's the point in that? We must act now.

Yes, but who? Van Gaal was always short-term. If the club is serious about Guardiola, they need to stick with Van Gaal until 2016 then get Pep in but if they do, they'll need to clear the decks first. Just reminds me of Moyes' season, where everyone thought it would be okay after Christmas and it just got worse and worse.
If United don't want to make a play for Ancelotti, I am certain there would be many managers willing to act the caretaker.
agree mate..I'm calmer now. But he should not be here past this season. This match was on National television. What sort of advert was it for our 'brand' as they call it here. This is why I think they may bite the bullet and get rid of him and put Giggs in.
If it's the players then it's the mangers fault for not buying right, if it's the injuries then again it is the managers fault for not having adequate replacements in reserve/over training them, so in conclusion it's the mangers fault.
We've got away with Blind at centre back when there's been a colossus in height and form in Smalling there, combined with better fullbacks, better centre mids, and a more negative defensive approach.

In my 60 years of watching United I've never left a game before the final whistle. Today I switched off with 10 minutes left to go, to find something useful to do. Absolutely had enough of Van Gaal's Philosophy and "facts". Back to Dutchland buddy.

Don't want to rip into a young team particularly but the overall composition of the squad - seems to be getting worse every transfer window, since I don't know when.
That would be insane. Giggs couldn't manage a second-hand book stall never mind a football club. It seems to me as though people are working against Van Gaal. Yes, he's pig-headed and yes, he's a martinet but isn't that why we hired him? He's half-way through his contract. We've had a crap few weeks but the season's only half over with much to play for. Writing it all off in favour of an untried manager wouldn't make any sense but not much at United does any more.

The amount of young and very inexperienced players we had to play obviously didn't help but Mata's invisibility cloak, Memphis played for only 25 minutes before turning into a Championship level winger and our nutty boss took off Fellaini who looked the most like scoring to once again put Powell on.
That was the price on the day. An honest price on todays market would be somewhere in the region of:
The front 6
Martial = 30m+
Mata = ~20m
Memphis = ~24m
Fellaini = 8m
Carrick = 1,6m
Lingard 7m
A total of 90 m compared to estimated 141m. A price reduction of 36%!!!
