Guardiola confirmed to City... what does this mean for us?

If the basis for us appointing our new manager is that they know more than Smores from redcafe then we're really scraping the barrel

I actually laughed at that one. United fans have always been drama queens. I don't think that is ever going to change, with or without Jose's appointment.

United are talking with Pulis. They want a strong willed PL manager to stabilize the PL performances. Not interested in Mourinho due to his ego/baggage

That's even worse than Moyes.

I would not jump to foregone conclusions about our impending demise. Football is a fickle and very dynamic game. No coach guarantees success. Has Pep made Bayern a better side? I would say 'yes', but only marginally. They have yet to reach the invincibility of their triple-winning year.

The implications for the Premier League as a whole will be interesting. We will see much greater tactical variation in the League, not only because of Pep's style but also because of other teams trying to find ways to break it down. It will make for interesting times.

He managed lower down their system. Giggs has four games, which were not all great and tbh looked at times he looked clueless. If he had been the U-21 manager then you could see something. Warren Joyce has more credentials to be our manager.
Yeah, it was just a simplistic statement. Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to see is Giggs take over - that just smacks of further decline. This is a massive job and with Pep gone I'm pinning my hopes on someone like Mourinho now

Great news for City. Sickening for us and it's silly to pretend otherwise.

We're miles behind them and are paddling hard in the opposite direction. I am fairly certain we're not appointing Mourinho ever, so our choices are looking limited. I can't imagine why a manager might leave Tottenham for us at the moment, a sentence I never thought I'd have to say, so I'm betting we'll carry on with the plan of letting LVG run the club into the ground until Giggs takes over.

We'll be miles below City in the pecking order for players with their money, squad and manager when we're saddled with Giggs.

Imagine you're Griezmann, for example, and United & City both want you next season. You can join world class players under a world class manager or you can be part of a project with players who are alright and a completely unproven manager who's completely devoid of personality and very likely to fail terribly.

Tough choice....

The next thing we will need to worry about it's staying relevant. Imagine you're 10 years old and deciding which team to support. You're watching United and falling asleep but there was that one half-chance on goal an hour ago....then you're watching, well, anyone else really. Who do you decide to support?

Lose enough supporters of the future and watch City hover them up with their top players, trophies, manager and stylish football and you become just another football team. United could stop this from happening but it'd require a bit of bottle and people who know what they are doing in the important positions. Doesn't look promising....

Considering the majority of posters prefaced most of their Pep based comments over the last few months with "I know he's going to city but...", the meltdown on here is quite spectacular.

Well done Caf, well done.

Well nightmares are often scary if they become real. No amount of "I know this will happen but..." can prepare you for what will actually happen. That said, I totally expected this meltdown . Can't wait when Jose goes somewhere too, should be epic.

As long as this does not trigger them into getting Messi, i am not too worried.

If anything i think perceptions of Pep are going to be deflated a bit. He wont be winning title and after title it has been accustomed to see him doing. I am sure he will win the league with City but not trophy after trophy, the competition is so much more stronger in England then Germany or Spain.

Wait until we appoint Pulis.

I don't think it's strong at all, just Arsenal & City are a joke right now. If Sir Alex was still here we'd probably have already wrapped up the league by now.... in this particular season, think Pep with the right ingredients at City would to.

It means we're a complete mess with no plans. I mentioned in a previous LVG out thread that the only logical reason I could think of that he was still in a job would be if we had Pep lined up for the summer. If the club's plan is to hire Giggs then why not just sack LVG and give him the job now while the club is at it's lowest point? Same goes for Mourinho.

Keeping LVG in a job would be a smart play if we had Pep lined up because giving the job to Giggs in the short term is risky if he proves to be a success their would be a swell of support for him to have it on a permanent basis.

Now that Pep is gone to City and Carlo to Bayern our inaction makes no sense. If you want Mourinho give it to him now, same for Giggs.

Agreed. The incompetence of this club is staggering.

Its more competitive, not stronger.

Stranger things have happened on the Caf before.

My old man wants Giggs as manager also, aruges with me a bunch similar to Entropy and he's been a match goer since the 60's so... just personal choices I guess, my friend.

I know, I'm being mischievous. Of course it's all about personal choices but I'm yet to see any good reason pro-Giggs fans have as to why he deserves the job.

It means we are going to be lagging behind City for the next 3 years at least if we dont get Mourinho in. Mourinho may fail for us but if it works he is one of the few managers who can compete with Guardiola. We have to take the risk.

Unfortunately, I believe this also means United will be looking at sloppy seconds in the transfer market as the allure of playing for Pep will impact the market in a big way

We don't tend to do well with galactico signings anyway.

Should we hire Jose then I still believe we as a club coupled with the wages we can offer still makes us a big draw for the top players. It all does of course depend on whether we get champions league football next season and Jose of course.

City definitely showing how to do it......

Clarity. Decisive. Building from a position of strength. Top class appointment.

Us ? Pretty much the exact opposite of the above.

A depressing day.......

I think that would finally be the thing to spark riots amongst the support.

What qualifies Giggs over the others? Hughes in particular has done well as a manager.
To the Hughes thread!

On the other hand, apart form a few hacks and doom merchants on here; where do these Giggs rumours come from?

I know, I'm being mischievous. Of course it's all about personal choices but I'm yet to see any good reason pro-Giggs fans have as to why he deserves the job.

The arguments are that he knows the club and he will be loyal.

The problem is that knowing the club isn't really useful, unless like Barcelona the club has a blueprint already known by the players or like Madrid the club is stupidly political. For the other clubs talent, experience and charisma are the main criteria.

I think we are past that now. This isn't a big secret. Everyone knows Giggs is being groomed to take over as manager. It remains for the board to decide on whether or not to make him our manager next or wait longer.
