What a poor player who's in decline, 2 goals and 1 assist only and barely just managed leading the goalscoring chart ahead of everyone (like Messi, Neymar and Suarez?). Why can't he just track back more and help his team doing a clean sheet? What a selfish cnut.

Was very good in the 15 minutes I saw of him. Excellent control, great short passing and a great cross as well that should have resulted in a goal from James. But, alas, he is rubbish.

can't help but still like the guy. it's hopeless. and with zidane as their coach, #nohomo but that's one sexy team.

He has a fair point. He is somehow criticised not being as nice as the Barcelona trio because he isn't all pally with his strike partners. The Barca trio is made up of a tax cheat, a (alleged) fraudster and a player suspended for periods adding up to a full season for crimes ranging from racial abuse to biting.

Ronaldo's worst crime is over celebrating a penalty in the Champions League final.

What are you talking about? Messi and Neymar issues are off the field, Suarez is a cnut but a too good one I'll give you that. But Cristiano this season made a lot of agressions towards other players, like in 4 games in a row.

But...worst crime is over celebrating a penalty? What about this?

And you can find images like that all the time.

Ronaldo was right in the press conference. The fact that the Barca three get on better than the Real three is irrelevant, all that matters is what they do on the pitch.

Criticising any aspect of his goalscoring is pretty ridiculous too given he's possibly the greatest goal scorer in the history of the game.

It's just too easy (and fun) to take jabs at him because of his rather petulant nature.

It is relevant, it helps them have a better understanding and appreciation of each other.

Ronaldo probably never has and might never appreciate his team mates as much as Messi seemingly does.

I don't see how getting on off the pitch would help their understanding on the pitch, they're two totally different things. Plenty of brilliant on pitch partnerships didn't translate to great friendships off the pitch. Law, Best and Charlton didn't get on as well off the pitch as the Barca trio either, they were totally different characters and personalities. It made feck all difference to them on the field. Sheringham and Cole famously didn't get on. Ronaldo himself pointed out that he won a CL with plenty of players he wasn't best friends with either.

It absolutely makes a difference. Anyone who has played the game at any level knows that the more comfortable you are wkth your team mates the easier it makes it for you to perform. You are less anxious, more willing to try things and put team mates in when they're in a position to score rather than be greedy.

Ronaldo is correct in saying it is not a necessity but it is definitely much better to have a friendly relationship with your colleagues as long as you are all ambitious and driven.. aiming for a collective goal. If it gets too pally pally and the focus is more on having fun with your mates and not on winning the game.. that is another issue.

Ronaldo isn't saying he doesn't get on with Benzema or Bale though, or that he isn't confortable with them. Just that they're not best friends off the pitch. Having an understanding and good relationship on the pitch is obviously important but that isn't dependent on what you do in your time off.

If you ask me Ronaldo has had a very detrimental impact on someone like Bale with his lack of teamwork. They won a CL together but they could have been multiple CL winners and been a better threat than they currently are if their relationship was better.

No one is saying you need to be best mates but the greatest teams in history had a strong core of close relationships. Yes you can get away with the odd pairs here and there within a side who detest each other and can still do the business but if you have an entire squad which has no off the pitch relationships and it is all forced.. you're on a hiding to nothing. Without squad spirit.. there is no spine to the side, its like managing a team of mercenaries.

Even in the corporate sphere.. you see a move by some firms towards promoting how friendly they are to work at.. They realise that a good social culture is essential to creating an environment which will breed sustainable success. A team full of Ronaldo and Bales is not a team.

Given that United's three greatest sides all had players that were not close as friends playing major roles in their success sort of poo poos that theory @Raees

Messi is a better player than Ronaldo. Neymar is a better player than Benzema and James. Suarez is a better player than Benzema and James.

Even so Barca are not that far ahead of Real so I think the 'friendship' angle is well overrated and just another tedious chapter in the 'Messi is better/more humble/cuter/more friendly than Ronaldo' saga.

Agree with this.

Sheringham and Cole hated each other and were part of a treble winning team. If you're professional enough to put off field issues aside when you're on the pitch, then it doesn't matter at all.

Ridiculous statement based on nothing. Perhaps Bale needs to be a better player and less injury prone to help on that. Real won one Cl and on extremely lucky fashion. They haven't been good enough to win more. It has nothing to do with Ronaldo and Bale eating tapas or doing Kevin Roldan karaoke toghether.

How is it based on nothing. We all watch Real Madrid games regularly. How many times have we seen Ronaldo sulking at Bale (less so now).. the atmosphere between them at one stage was absolutely toxic. Moving to a foreign country was difficult enough for Bale, he was fortunate he had someone like Modric there.. a player he had built a good relationship with from a previous club which helped him to settle.

If no one was close to him at the club... and they all treated him like Ronaldo, do you think he would be able to do the business on the pitch - no chance. How many of you guys have even played football? I am betting all of you have and if you all say to me that it doesn't matter to you if you're hated by all your team mates and you can still play well.. that for me is the ridiculous statement. No human being can perform in a team based environment where he has zero friendship with anyone on his team or organisation.. it leads to cases like Zlatan at Barcelona where he felt extremely isolated and completely out of sync with his team mates. It makes you feel like shit and going to work feels like a chore when it should be a form of enjoyment. That is not the best environment for success - not long term sustainable success anyway.

Ronald Reagan (who Ronaldo is named after btw) was often referred to as the "teflon president" because nothing ever stuck to him. His successor George Bush Sr was then referred to as the "velcro president" because everything seemed to stick to him. That seems to be how it is with Ronaldo and Messi. Unlike his namesake no matter what Ronaldo does he can't seem to win. The goals, the awards, the charity work seem to mean nothing. Messi on the other hand can be up for tax evasion, deliberately punching the ball into the goal and claiming it, taking growth hormone when he was younger, infighting with Luis Enrique when Enrique took over as coach and attempting to get him fired and more. We can always seem to find an excuse for Messi; it was his dad on the tax evasion, he was only young when he deliberately cheated by claiming the goal, he had a medical condition which needed treatment for his use of growth hormone, these things happen all the time between coach and player etc... Maybe these excuses are all true, (just as an aside Peyton Manning is currently under investigation by the NFL for taking steroids during his recovery from massive back surgery and reducing inflammation is one of reasons that steroids are actually used for) either way Messi always seems to get the benefit of the doubt. Somehow Ronaldo never does.

Wait are you serious? Poor baby Bale can´t handle moving to a foreign country and needs some pampering from teammates. Ronaldo sulks with plenty of players and they can handle it. Perhaps sometimes it's just bad decision making by Bale? I've seen him being as selfish as Ronaldo and well his status in the team is infinite lower compared to Ronaldo's. Perhaps he should just deal with it and man up? You have to be professional above all and do your work. You are getting paid millions for that. Sorry for not showing any simpathy but this type of whining just annoys me. Didn't Ronaldo move to England with 18 years of age and was able to adapt to a very harsh enviroment? What about what happened after the WC2006 where everyone in England was against him bar United fans? Just recently he claimed he didn't have any close relationships at United during one of your club's most succesfull eras. Not to mention the examples other users gave with Cole and Sheringham. Address those. And Ibrahimovic's major problem was with Guardiola. I´ve played plenty of football with ppl i didn't like (at an amateur level in my Law School team for 5 years) and it didn't matter that much. That is my perspective.
