PL L FA Premier League

Sunderland 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sat, 13 February 2016

Rooney and van Gaal's post match interviews pretty much summed up how every United fan is feeling right now I'm sure. This is a very low point for the club and time for change is required to try and get us out of this rot. Our chances of getting into the top four are severely diminished now.

Thought the players put in that kind of "the game is up" performance you see when the manager is a dead man walking. 2nd half was as bad as anything this season

I liked when we brought Depay on to play in Martial's position so Martial couldn't get in the game anymore...because that was clearly the main problem we were having in this game...Martial getting the ball too much.

Why wouldn't you take Schneiderlin or Carrick off in this game? One was invisible and the other was so off the pace it was genuinely insulting.

He might be our best midfielder when he bothers to turn up, but there are certain games where Michael Carrick deserves to have one of his team mates come over and smack him one in the face, and today was one. He seems to think he's just allowed to not bother playing with any urgency and that the rest of the game should wait for him. Then throws his arms around and mopes like a sulking teenage girl when this doesn't happen.

To be fair, of those four, only Smalling has played well with any degree of consistency at all, and even he isn't exactly reliable. I mean look at the second goal. Schneiderlin has yet to do anything at all to suggest he doesn't belong in the Lingard list.

This!

We brought a player on who didn't offer anything, and on top of that, had him play in the position our most threatening player was playing in. Genius. Absolute genius.

Also agree on Smalling.

Not even a surprise. Don't know why the press bother describing these results as a "shock" anymore. Usual post match slavers from van Gaal. Hard to even give a shit when the players scarcely seem to. Van Gaal says he'd feel let down if the board were talking to Maureen. Everyone else should feel let down if they're not!

the manager and captain wave the white flag in early February. And we wonder whats wrong with our club nowadays

Three of our back four were Love, Bojack and Blind. Sunderland won the game on the their setpieces. With no Fellaini, that was always going to happen. Love him or hate him, we need the big guy.

It's so weird, I'm used to so look forward to the matches but I'm just non plused now. It's not because we are losing, I've been through all that over the last 30 years, it's the fact we are so boring, so....nothing as a football team. Even when we weren't winning anything we were never as tumescent as this. We always fought, each player always wanted to fight. The only other time I remember us being a bit boring was in the Sexton era, but even then we attacked.

I was among those moaning about him playing in CM, but we fell apart after he was subbed off against Chelsea and really needed him today to hold the ball up.

Herrera hasn't been in great form, but this is a match where he should've replaced Felli instead of Morgan or Carrick.

We played some good stuff at times in the first half. The second half was a clusterfeck though, and they simply wanted it far more than we did, we were simply outfought.

If there ever was a must-win game this season, it was probably this one. You would have capitalised on some teams losing points tomorrow.

We looked ok at times, just ok, but littered throughout that ok level were, lapse of concentration, shit passing, lack of conviction and ultimately, inability to defend set pieces and when we attacked we did not commit enough players into the box, no midfielders got beyond the ball.

Had the whole transfer window to buy a defender or even loan someone but we opted not too. Can't blame injuries.

Style of play remains poor, we have no fire or intensity in our team- as soon as a team gets stuck into us we fall.

Very poor. LVG and his cronies need to go - we need change

a win in our next league game and LVG will throw out the 'we can still win the title'

Not surprised by any result we get. We have a crap team that, on occasion, due to a few good individual performances, may look good.
No manager can transform this lot into a top European club. We need a lot of great youngsters coming through our academy in the next few years because we cant buy the needed 8 or 9 players in the transfer market.
I would keep De Gea, Martial, smalling, Shaw and Memphis ( due to his potential ) and get rid of everyone else. Its going take some time to rebuild.

Talented player like Pereira should get a chance!

Frustrating

Showed again that a flukey early goal will kill any good mentality the players have

concede two set pieces again, miss fellaini so much from these moments. Took him off vs sotn and it was almost inevitable. If you took set pieces out this season we'd prob be top but we are shocking from them

Nice that we have so many academy kids out there. I know 50% on here don't care but for me that is huge

Would you take OShea for United? I am tired of the players are not good enough. The team can not produce against crap clubs with players who would never see any time on United. The likes of Sunderland, Stoke and Southampton would die for players like Mata, Rooney and Smalling. Yet they play horrible against the worst EPL clubs.

Sunderland can challenge for the top 4 if they play United every week. That's 4 points from us this season, this from a team who have conceded 50 goals already this season. Teams think Christmas has come early when they are playing Sunderland.

Disappointing substitutions again. Herrera for Schneiderlin was the obvious substitution from about 15 minutes in. United had lots of possession and Schneiderlin was finding himself in offensive positions where he clearly wasn't comfortable.

Even worse is when they trot out the tired "you've got to give credit to" line to describe whatever plucky opponent beat us this time. Seems like we should give credit to just about every other team for not being a complete shower of shite and putting in an effort to actually play a game of football against us. Well feck off. The deciding factor in our games on average isn't how much effort our opponents put it, it's simply how poor we've become at football.

Prepare yourself:

"Fantastic European Level still in the Europa League" - he's setting the press up for a loss against Midgitland!

He's now saying "top 4" was "our aim" at the start of the season, when he had made a point of saying "top three" in interviews up until about 2 games ago! Will he start saying top 5 and top 6 soon?

Talking about opponent's levels of aggression is madness - does he not think that other lower-league teams play aggressively against top opponents like Barca and Bayern - the guy lives in a dreamworld located somewhere around the turn of the millennium in footballing terms.

That last question about it being the worst result of the season considering Sunderland were second from bottom and his reply is a shrug and "pfffft" He's thrown in the towel and he only seems worried about how all this will affect his legacy and history.

Can't wait for his book after this is all over … and I'm not fecking buying it either!

Can't believe we were outplayed by f*cking Sunderland and the Dutch cnut still hasn't been sacked.

The idiots actually think LvG is the right man. He and his squad are toxic.

The worst thing about all of this is that its killing all the fun and entertainment out of Manchester United.

We didn't deserve anything from this game so not too gutted about the result.

I think we were a mess, no game plan, no energy, no nothing. First half was almost football-ish but in the second our attacks and passing was terrible.

The worst game from Carrick ever. He seemed like he was wasted. That chest high shot/pass to Rooney in the first half, wtf?

Darmian will take any excuse to go off, that guy is so soft.

It's funny when we need to score late the other team has way more chances than we do.
So he should have played on with a dislocated shoulder?...Yeah you're right, he really is a soft cnut!!
