Europa League 2015/2016

Never liked resting players for big games like this, you're pretty much giving up doing that against a team like dortmund.

Would an extra game really make kane struggle against villa?

Ah, the old excuse of the overly physical EPL. Watch a couple of games by Darmstadt or Ingolstadt for example and then we can talk again. They are several german clubs which choose the physical side of the game to survive against the big boys. The more common systematical pressing does not make it easier aswell.
It is well documented that the Premier League is a lot more physical than the Bundesliga and La Liga. Even the Ligue 1 is more physical than them. It's a fact, not an excuse. The lower teams in the premier league are actually very strong which means you're in a battle every week. Same can't be said about the Bundesliga.

The only reason people care about the Uefa cup this time is because of the CL spot.
Spurs have top 4 in the bag.
They are going for the league.

I really dont think they'd be too disappointed.

The CL spot shouldn't be a worry this season, but long term spurs will miss it the most.

They get blown millions upon million up their asses just by being part of the EPL. This is absolutely no excuse.

And they get almost nothing for the EL. Hence it being seen as an irrelevant competition. They'd win more money by finishing second in the league than finishing fourth and getting to the semi's (that's discounting the extra chance of winning the league that key players not being worked into the ground would bring).

It isn't just a random coincidence that no PL teams take the competition seriously.

Once again, the goal scorer is off-side early in the play pulling defenders out of position to create space for the player who makes the assist to pass back to him once he's back on-side again.

Poch has gone all in on the league … think he's showing his naivety here. You maintain momentum on all fronts to create an air of invincibility.

This is the best possible thing for Spurs PL campaign though... If they're out of sight in the first leg, they can now solely concentrate on the league and throw the second leg by using the kids.
Nonsense. This is going to crush their confidence. And who wants to see their manager just give up on the big stage?

It's posters like you that keep on egging on the "PL isn't all that" crowd

It's not an excuse for them indeed but they still refuse to line up their best 11.

If said manager takes them to the PL title, will anyone care? Also... I think a game agaisnt Aston Villa is pretty much the perfect way to bring back any lost confidence.

How much more? It can't be much, the PL does almost equitable sharing.

A PL team getting taught a footballing lesson is always nice to watch for me (except for United of course). The whole "we're rich, we're the best" speech can go feck itself.
It is very coward to not wanna go 100% for the EL, you always give yourself the excuse when you get knocked out.

My point is that 'stunts' like this always do more harm than good - we've seen it so many times. Horrible for the away fans as well.

Being in the title race is a bullshit excuse for resting half the first team, especially when you're resting them for fecking Aston Villa. Dortmund are 5 points behind the leaders as well, but are still playing with their best players and have been doing so for most Europa League games, even when they weren't 18 points ahead of the 5th placed team.

The Premier League club's attitude towards the Europa League is embarrassing, to be honest. Why feck up your chances for a European trophy on purpose?

This game is reminding me why England are going to have yet another disappointing summer.

I agree with you AN!, I think this is perfect for Spurs's title ambitions. Given the lineup, I'm wondering whether it's not what Poch was somehow hoping for.

Going forward it's around £2.5m per position (so £5m), plus around £3.75m per extra game they're shown on TV as they're part of the title race, rather than comfortably 4th.

Couls easily be £12.5m.

Btw Sevilla's top striker Bacca only averaged 50 minutes a game in the Europa League last season(less than Harry Kane) and they won the title.

Tottenham Fans won't give a shit if they win the Premier League mate.

I don´t get the attitude either. These are the nights you play for as a footballer. Measure yourself against the best. Coach basically said: Well done lads, but this is above your pay grade. We pack it in.

Well, Poch effectively threw this tie away with his team selection ... we have no chance of progressing now.

Indeed. You can walk the games in Bundesliga, it's a terrible abysmal league. Dortmund could basically field 9 men and win all games 9-0. In PL they wouldn't get a single point.

Don't you think it would have been more appropriate to play the kids against Villa and have a go with a full strength team tonight … he could have withdrawn key players if it had started going wrong but to save Harry Kane for Villa is ridiculous … I reckon even we could beat them!

Fair play though if Spurs win the league then this won't matter at all.

Shows no ambition, makes the club look small time

so...this was the second of the bundesliga versus the second of the pl, a league which some call "the best league of the world"..this is ridicoulus, we could easily have a 5:0...
another thing which is laughable, is the phrase: "the pl is so fast and strong"..hmm yeah, ive seen nothing of this this evening.

great game, tottenham never had a chance.
EUROPAPOKAL!!!! :D

Why did he bring in Kane and co when you were losing badly? Might as well rest them for the full 90 at that point. Seems like he did care. Me thinks he thought your b teamers could keep it competitive enough to at least have only a small deficit to overcome at home. Made a miscalculation.
