Europa League 2015/2016

Fenerbahce going into full meltdown, down to 9

This. I like the fact we have so many other clubs fans on here.
Aye, a great deal of them are amongst the best posters on the site. I like hearing in depth views on the other clubs/leagues too, as well as more informed opinions on players we've been linked to from the countries of these posters.

It's a great result for Braga. Jorge Mendes will be happy. He practically "owns" half of the team

Scenes at Braga. Another Fener player sent off. He shoved the ref as well :wenger:

Loved the passion from the Braga players and supporters. You could see all game that they really wanted to win today, that's what football is about.

Not talking about this match specifically, Sko. Villarreal are a better side than Leverkusen, you and I both know that. ;)

Ah, didn't realise you were talking about their season in general - true, they look even more frustrating than "Neverkusen" usually do I guess. Would be brilliant to have Hertha and Mainz holding onto those European spots (though could also turn ugly for the German coefficient next season).

Jesus, Dortmund are a sensational team. Just better than us in every single possible way.

Wow.

Countries with teams left in Europe:

• Spain 6
• Germany 3
• England 2
• Portugal 2
• France 1
• Czech 1
• Ukraine 1

La Liga is so far ahead of the rest it's amazing. Am I right saying that the only team that got knocked out from Europe were Valencia who were knocked out by a domestic team too?

Exactly. With 3 left in each of CL & Europa, I suspect 2 will play one another in the QFs

But it's much easier for Spanish sides because in La Liga everyone except Barca & Real is dreadful so they have easy ride domestically and are never tired. English teams are so exhausted from the toughness of PL they cannot keep up.

That does sound like the familiar tune Premiership fans love to sing :D

We both appreciate how criminally underrated the Primera is in terms of quality

This was the record until May 2015. I wonder what it looks like now?

You can add 11 wins out of 11 ties to that list if I'm not mistaken. 4 out of 4 in the first EL knockout round, 2 out of 2 this round and 3 out of 3 in the CL so far.

Such a shit terrible dreadful league.

I wonder how many clubs are included in that record. Probably around 10?

No question.

Fitz v Thurn und TAxsis is a senile old man whos talking bullshit the whole day
At least he doesn't pretend to know a thing or two about football as others SKY commentators do. He's also talking more entertaining BS. I had a good laugh when he fused Shinji's and Nuri's bio into one by claiming that Shinji was loaned out to Manchester United by Real Madrid.

I'll be traveling to Leverkussen to cheer Villareal into the next round. Since they are finally close (ish) to Amsterdam, the company can finally see the team that we've been working for this season. Extra bonus is us being in the away end with the supporters from Spain. Should be great!
So how did you like it? If Villareal gets drawn against Dortmund, would you get tickets again? The atmosphere of the home crowd should be a little different to the one of yesterday night. :D

Yeah... no I'd rather not. German teams are embarassing enough as it is in international competitions. It's time the other teams get their act together and follow Dortmund and Bayern into something resembling consistency. I'm really glad how Tuchel turned out for Dortmund.

That's really harsh. I thought Gladbach played well in a truely tough group for their first CL appearance in decades (and really deserved that 3rd place ahead of Sevilla, the last matchday just went ridiculously wrong). Leverkusen also did well the last few years even though there were a few smashings inbetween, but usually made it through the group stages and then went out against a strong team. Leverkusen this season kicked out Lazio in the CL playoffs, played well in most games in the group stages including a sensational performance in Barcelona and just came short against a good Roma side/eventually missed out on 2nd place by a lack of clinical finishing. It would be great if our 2nd tier teams could match the Spanish 2nd tier teams, but the fact that they can't isn't embarrassing in any way. Even Augsburg were great to watch and more successful as you would have expected from them.

There's obviously room for improvement but considering where we came from / how fecking awful German teams were between 2002 and 2010, the last few years have been a success story and there's quite clearly still a positive development throughout the league visible.

I'm thinking mainly of Schalke or Wolfsburg here. The German league is too inconsistant. They need to be in the CL more often. I expect more from Wolfsburg than going through on a draw against Gent, but that's a matter of opinion. I definitely expect more from Schalke. They've had enough years of investment, it's time they decide whether or not they want to be a top team. Leverkusen... meh, I can't think of them as a winning team in any scenario, so whatever they accomplish is a miracle for me in any case.

I am conceding that I may be a bit harsh on German teams. Considering how little money they invest, what they do is pretty good. But they could do so much more. Teams like Gent should not pose such a problem.

Wolfsburg beat Gent home and away after topping their CL group and are rightfully in the quarterfinal of the CL. Not entirely sure what the feck you're talking about. They're still inconsistent considering their performances in the league, but surely you can't criticise their performances in Europe this year? That would be proper mental, it's a clear improvement on last season's EL campaign.

Erm, just ignore that... I read the results wrong I just realised. Thought it was an away 1:0 victory for Gent. *hides*

A Spanish team got knocked out because they played another Spanish team. Oh man, La Liga is just so good right now.

Fun roadtrip with nice people but a terrible match man, it was just boring all round. We were talking about it in the car back and opinions were pretty split on it, I would go 100% if they draw Dortmund, but I am guessing it won't be a 10 man group making the trip that time, but a few less. Maybe it's because most of my co-workers have traveled and seen a lot of football already, and for me it's still exciting to even cross the border to Germany, I don't know.

Totally understandable as we're a wild and exotic country. The Westfalenstadion is some place else if I'm allowed to say so, therefore I highly recommend going if that tie actually occurs and you have a chance for a ticket.

Well sure, it's not exactly Jamaica or something, but I'll take any trip. I am certain at least 4 guys of my company will want to go, so it should be possible as long as we can get tickets again.

A Spanish team got knocked out because they played another Spanish team. Oh man, La Liga is just so good right now.

This season is shaping up like the 2013/14 when Spain got the highest coefficient score ever -- of 7 Spanish sides only 1 was knocked out by a non-Spanish team. So far this season, out of 7 Spanish sides 1 has been knocked out by another Spanish team, and now there are two more all-Spanish ties coming up.

they play some football and dont focuse on getting sponsorships from asian noodle companys.

Firmino injured.

James Pearce reporting he's out for the season. However the Echo are quoting the Brazilian FA : -

Liverpool look set to be without Roberto Firmino for their Premier League trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton on Sunday.

The Brazilian FA today reported that the Liverpool player had been pulled out of the Brazil squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

At this stage the injury does not seem to be serious with most translations suggestioning it is down to bruising.

Physioroom saying he's taken a 'knock'.

Watched some moments of the 1966 Cup Winners Cup Final in Glasgow today and can't wait now for Thursday. Hopefully our lads will be equally successful as their predecessors 50 years ago. :)

Tonight's the night... If we can get them back at Anfield still having a chance to get through, then that'll be enough for me. 2-1 in Dortmund's favour wouldn't be a terrible result. Anything more than that, and I guess that's that.

Going to be an exciting match for sure. I still think Dortmund will prove to be too good. 3-1.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. They brushed Spurs aside with ease, and Spurs are playing much better than us this season. That being said, we have been good in the bigger matches under Klopp, so I'm not ruling us out entirely.

who is out injured on each side?

The only certainly absent player on our side is Subotic. Sokratis, Gündogan and Hummels all returned to training Tuesday and I expect at least the last one to start today.
