The end of Rooney

I aggree to the largest extent possible that Rooney is past it. I also find it very weird that people continuously disavow his obivious decline. The reason why I found this thread hilarious was the way in which people conveyed this a la..

However as painful as it is to admit I dont see him leaving until at least another season. Because of all the contract/ club symbol nonsense. To me rooney is like the late 30's early 40's uncle who was really good at football and can shine for moments in a 5 a side...'moments' being the key word.
:lol::lol::lol:

Or in China!

I cant care less were he goes. We're becoming the retirement house of choice for crap/injury prone/finished players and managers and that has to stop. Apart from Smalling, Martial, Rashford, DDG and CBJ none of the remaining players deserve the red shirt.

Bit harsh on Blind there.

He's a decent player but at a top club he would be just a squad player, an upgrade of John OShea. I am not saying that all of them will leave. I am only saying that the vast majority of our players shouldn't be there. We used to have higher standards than what we have now.

Id probably sell my aunt for a young SAF. The one who was so hungry for success that didn't allow sentimentality to rule over his better judgement. He'll probably get rid of half of this rubbish and build everything from scratch.

There was also all sorts of subtle comments in the media on Sunday (inc Shearer on MOTD) saying how Rooney 'had a good game in midfield' etc.

Even though he was for the most part ineffective and lucky not to be sent off.

Its as if, if they keep perpetuating the idea that he can transition in to playing in midfield, they wont have to acknowledge the fact that the reason he can't play as a striker anymore to begin with, is because he's finished at this level and his legs have gone.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where Messi or Ronaldo get on a bit, and instead of ripping up the attack get moved deeper, and just tog around and play the simple balls.
I just can't imagine it.

Watching the "old" Rooney, it makes you weep now. That ferocious untamed thrust he had, mixed with incredible will to win. Mixed in with a real flair and way of playing well beyond his years.

I can't see benching him ending well at all. He apparently always wants to play and is always in the managers ear looking to play. If that's ignored and he remains on the bench I can see him being a disruption. It's all fine now that he's being pandered to and treated like some sort of footballing god that cannot be dropped or subbed. But we've seen in the past that his camp will drop stories to the media to destabilise the manager and get him what he wants. This is a guy that announced he wanted to leave just before a Champions League match. The angry and confused statements came out when Moyes pointed out that the guy who had outscored him for the last two seasons and helped win us the league would be our first choice striker. Look at how the media reacted the one time LVG did bench him, the match was almost forgotten in a sea of "you need your best player and leader on the pitch" bollocks from the media. Him being on the bench isn't going to be good for anyone and the club needs to do everything it can to get rid.

this has boiled my piss since Moyes. Against Bayern away he was hobbling around the pitch unable to kick the ball, and Moyes kept him on for 90 mins and later put in midfield, instead of bringing a fit striker on. 'Well its Wayne, he always want to play". feck off

He needs to follow LVG out imo. He'll always be inconsistent and is not an inspirational captain - so why hold on to him? How much appeal can he really have left marketing wise. He ain't no Roger Federer. So what's the point of affording him all this privileges?

Never mind Moyes' & LVG's favouritism towards Wayne, I'm not even convinced that SAF would've got rid (despite how it appeared at the time). All these managers liked Wayne as a person and, besides, every boss wants a player who's very keen to play; they were/are 'soft' on him, and that's not Rooney's fault - they should've been stronger in their decision-making.

Well someone needs to find some balls and make the decision. I reckon that myself and @DomesticTadpole should go and sort them out there:D. What a bunch of cowards. They prefer to keep Wayne sweet, instead of doing what's best for the team? What's wrong with these men?

For what it's worth though, I'm pretty certain SAF would have got rid.

They're twits, chief. Of course, you won't find that in any coaching manual, but that's because of a conspiracy.

Wayne always likes to play.

They're f'ckin professional footballers, it should go with the territory!

I agree that he is on the decline but under Jose he will be reinvigorated. Hell, he managed 17 goals in the league under Moyes..

it will take time but he will eventually be dropped for someone better by mourinho ie lingard, herrera, anyone. Mou will not risk his reputation, managing united is a lifetime chance an if the deal is already on the plate, he must have been watching how disgraceful rooney was this season.... he got burnt with Falcao cant believe he would do the same mistake twice. he might play rooney from the beginning but he will recognize how useless he is quite soon..
