Cristiano Ronaldo - Performances (wums will be thread banned)

It is so obvious that Ronaldo holds Madrid back. They play so much better without him.

I didn't even see the match so just kidding around but I do think it's ridiculous that some suggest Ronaldo holds madrid back.
I guess 0-0 away at City is better than 0-3 away at Wolfsburg.

On a more serious note, does anyone actually believe that ? How can your best player hold you back?

Take your pick from:

1) Too selfish
2) Doesn't track back
3) Can't beat defenders

A lot of people do believe that. I think some people see players that are selfish and think that without them the team would be much better. Of course Ronaldo is selfish, but he can afford to be like many skilled players.

He has a tear in his hamstring. Rumours are that it's extremely unlikely he plays and even if he does he will undoubtedly still be injured. With Benzema also out, I think City will knock them out.

Madrid will still win IMO. Bale and their midfield is enough. They even had the best chances away from home.

Apparently, he's played in his 17th CL semi-final, I guess that means he's been in 9?

This is the equal record, apparently.
He played in 07,08,09 for us and the last 6 in a row for Madrid, so 9 is right.

Mourinho got them into 3 in a row, Ancelotti won it and then lost in the SF, now this season, so 6 is right.
Yeah, wasn't disputing the number. It's just quite an achievement. I suppose it helps that there are only around 4-5 other teams who can realistically compete with them at the moment. Whom they usually meet at the SF stage or thereabout.

Whilst some people think that the "Real Madrid way" of running a club is a bad model, whilst hiring the likes of Moyes and LVG and not sacking them when things go wrong is a good model. :wenger:

Hope this time he propely stars in the CL final. Was a bit anti climactic last time when he only managed a penalty at a time the game had already been won by his team mates.

He needs to excel in this final and go on a decent run at the euros to make a play for the golden ball and snatch it from Suarez. Only the CL win might not be enough.

Yeah, that or him winning the CL and Suarez not winning La Liga.

If Suarez wins La Liga, it's hard to look past him IMO. He's been astoundingly good this season.

His off ball movements and positioning is top of the world I think of course apart from his usual other obvious abilities. He is a bit underrated in that sense. A lot of players in the past had reputation like fox in the box etc. He was hardly called that if ever.

A lot of youth forwards will do well by just looking at and learning how he moves around in the final 3rd.

It's an excellent achievement, although in some editions the road to the SFs was remarkably more comfortable than in others. Under Mourinho RM's opponents in the QFs were quite frankly an afterthought... Tottenham, APOEL, Galatasaray...
In my opinion, it's only really under Ancellotti (& v Utd in 12/13) that they faced challenging sides in the R16 & QFs.

2010/11
R16 - Lyon
QFs - Tottenham

2011/12
R16 - CSKA Moscow
QFs - APOEL

2012/13
R16 - Man Utd
QFs - Galatasaray

2013/14
R16 - Schalke
QFs - Dortmund

2014/15
R16 - Schalke
QFs - Atlético

2015/16
R16 - AS Roma
QFs - Wolfsburg

In terms of off-the-ball movement and heading he's one of the very best of all-time easily. Was very impressed with him yesterday, not only for those aforementioned attributes which were on display but also his workrate. He rarely bothers except when defending set-pieces, but against City you could see him spurring on his team mates to press and he was leading by example -- all the more impressive considering he wasn't anywhere near fit. He was one of the stand-outs for me, along with Bale, Modric who was running the show, Marcelo and Carvajal, in what was a rather sober match.

Didn't look properly fit against City last night, fully fit he would probably notched a goal or two, but credit him, you could see he was struggling a bit at times, he was grimacing with the pain but he gave his all, still doesn't track back much, but it's not his game so you can overlook it. It's in the opponents final third you want him anyway so he's better saving his energy to make forward runs, at his age his stamina won't improve so he is more useful conserving his energy to do what he does best.

Aye, have to agree. Like I said, unless a massive upset happens, there are only around 4, maximum 6 sides, who's competing for the UCL trophy these days.

Let's hope some of the English sides (especially United :D) can pull their act together and make it a bit more interesting in the near future.

Anyway, I don't want to derail Ron's thread.

it's a dead ball free kick...

So now we have an anniversary of Ronaldo scoring a goal? :wenger:

Let's hope we don't have anniversaries for every goal he scored, we'd all be constantly drinking Champagne and getting drunk twice a week.

You're on to something good there Colin...

HALA RONALDO. Hope he wins la liga, cl, euro 2016, super cup, world cup tournament and golden ball.

Needs to win the Champions League to have any chance the Ballon d'Or I think. I doubt Barca will drop points at Granada and he needs about 5 goals to overtake Suarez whilst also hoping the he doesn't score.

Looks like he read your "needs about five goals" comment and taken it seriously
