It's been a while since I've watched an anime so recommend a few things Aksh.

Anything except Mecha works I guess.
Stein's Gate and Dennou Coil are good sci-fi. Stein's Gate is about time-travel and is more plot focused while Dennou Coil is a little looser and slower paced. Monster is a psychological thriller. It's a bit long (70-ish episodes) but a very gripping plot.

Seirei no Moribito is fantasy drama, as is Spice & Wolf to some extent. Both shows are probably more character driven than plot driven, compared to the above.

Tokyo Magnitude and Kino's Journey are for if you like depressing stuff :).

Thank Aksh, already seen Monster, Stein's Gate, and Spice and Wolf and loved them so you seem to know what you're talking about.

Slice of Life is the best.

I don't think it's the best for starter anime watchers though. You have to discover it yourself.

:)

If you're interested in the slice of life genre, should probably check these out:

Usagi Drop

Natsume's Book of Friends

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Sakamichi no Apollon

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijo

Ooh, these too:

Barakamon

Great Teacher Onizuka

Non Non Biyori

Tsuritama

Uchuu Kyoudai

From the ones that Invictus posted, I would recommend Barakamon (one of the best comedies I've ever watched) and Usagi Drop (heart-warming).

Ended up watching Elfen Lied (the story was very enjoyable, though i'm not a fan of the extreme nudity), Monster (somehow didn't like it very much, think it's more down to the art-work and pacing), Cowboy bebop (seems like the most overrated thing ever, not done though but at as of episode 8 or so i'm just forcing myself through the bore-fest because of it's high recommendations) & One Punch Man (surprisingly good).

Can we get everyones top 10-20 to see what's the most recommended shows are?
In a non-specific order (put numbers just to keep track):
1. One piece
2. Shura No Toki
3. Chrome Shelled Regios
4. Death Note
5. Code Geass
6. Elfen Lied
7. Fate/Zero & Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks
8. Fullmetal Alchemist
9. Hellsing Ultimate
10. Hunter X Hunter
11. Rurouni Kenshin
12. Tokyo Ghoul
13. Kuroko No Basket

Don't feel like i'd put any others in or around their bracket. Bleach & Naruto being shot down by massive amounts of fillers, the story being so incomplete in other animes and stuff like that. Will update it if i remember something worthy of being on the list.

I recommend Mirai Nikki if you haven't watched it yet and you liked Elfen Lied's story, imo it has the same feel with much better execution and story.

Glad you're enjoying One Punch Man, I bet loads of people won't watch it because of the title but it's surprisingly good as yous ay.

Just started watching Jojo's bizarre Adventure.

Very funny and great animation. Not your typical shonen anime, its broken up into parts of about 20 episodes all with self contained stories but with an over arching string connecting them.

Honestly would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of mystery adventures. Also has one of the best OP's in any anime.

My favorite five would probably be:
1. Naruto (the first anime I ever watched)
2. One Piece (dubbed)
3. Hunter X Hunter
4. Attack on Titan
5. TokyoGhoul

Other animes I enjoy, and in no particular order
Magi
Samurai Champloo
Akame Ga Kill
Bleach
Fairy Tail (dubbed)
Yu Yu Hakusho
The Seven Deadly Sins
DBZ
Afro Samurai

Next month, I'll begin watching My Hero Academia, Fate Stay Night, Terra Formers, and Sword Art Online. I stopped One Punch Man after 3/4 episodes, I might reconsider my stance on it and consequently watch the rest.

I definitely have a preference for Anime's that have several episodes. Can't wait for Hunter X Hunter return. The only manga I've read is Naruto.

Probably January 2017, as things stand:

Dunno about Hiatus x Hiatus anime...

Dayum:mad:, I was told by a mate two months ago that it would be back in the summer. It didn't even end on some sort of equilibrium, like HxH where Gon achieved his main aim, which like you know, to find his twat of a father. I did have preconceived conclusions at first, given the very title 2011 which indicated he had commitment issues, but feck me, I haven't watched that many animes, (I thought I did) but certainly not enough to make a top 100, but consistency is beginning to become a prevalent issue. I had to wait a year of Bleach filler, I didn't watch them though,* only for it to be cancelled.

*After watching the Bounty Arc in Bleach, it put me off watching filler on all anime. The arc was sublimely charmless.

Forgot about Reborn and Black Lagoon, seems like centuries ago when I watched them.

Yep, that was positively soul-destroying. Kariya had the potential to be a class antagonist (even though he was non-Canon), but the pacing ruined it. Ditto for:

Rescue Sasuke to Shippuden/ Reboot/ Rescue Kazekage Arcs.

Naruto was glorious up until that point. The only bits I really liked in Shippuden were:

Itachi vs Sasuke
Pain's intro leading upto Jiraiya vs Pain
Shikamaru vs Hidan
Pain's assault up until Hinata's death and Naruto talk no jutsu

The Fourth Shinobi War was a major letdown, IMO.

Hmm, I wasn't particularly happy with the way they handled
Tobi
but given it was the first anime I ever watched, I tend to be overly generous with my view on it. Those were definitely some great moments, especially the I vs S. I is comfortably one of my fave anime characters.

That was comfortably the lowest point of Shippuden for me (apart from the Kaguya hijack at the very end, and the hyperfocus on the Uchiha clan with the infinite scaling of Sharingan instead of developing the Byakugan further). Was rooting for Tobi = Shisui. :(

His character reveal, and the inner turmoil/ conflict Itachi went though was brilliantly conceived. Probably my favorite 'grey' character in Naruto with Nagato (the whole manga backstory with Jiraiya in Amegakure was deliciously grim), and Orochimaru. Them 3, and Yondaime + Hashirama are definitely my personal faves from the entire series.

You've never seen Rurouni Kenshin? @Invictus
Ah, crap. That was supposed to be at 5, ahead of Cowboy Bebop and Baccano! Love the anime, as well as the OVA (mostly Trust and Betrayal).
