We're all here talking about whether Pogba is overrated or not while the real issue in this thread is how this Glaston fellow is overrating Spurs and its players
It's like he's forgotten that his boys finished 3rd, as opposed to just won their 5th league in a row.
Also, that he thinks one of the hottest prospects in the world wouldn't cruise straight into their team and immediately be their star man.
I'd buy him. He is not going to stagnate, and midfielders are in their prime around 27-28 most often. We will be able to recoup most of the money unless he gets a long-term injury or something along those lines.
I didn't say he was but he was awful last year. Some players can't make the step up. Hopefully he can but the fact remains he struggled. That was my point. Which i stand by. In a midfield 3 we will have to rely on him or herrera if we get pogba. And thats if we manage to get another midfielder in to control things.
I totally agree, I have been very critical of the hype and the fees attached to Pogba. But the hype is real and he will be a marketing asset for the club, so his fee will always be inflated but since he is a very good player, it's not really a big deal.
Well it depends on where you see what position Pogba ends up as? he has a lot of the tools to be an effective 6,8 or 10, but personally I think he'll excel closer to being a no.10, like a Lampard or Yaya with 2 workhorses behind him. If you're looking for a defensive mid, Kante for 22mill looks good. If you're looking for an 8, you could see if Kroos becomes available once Real sign Pogba, and if you're looking for an attacking mid you could do worse than someone like... Isco who should become available for a reasonable fee.
Don't get me wrong, I actually like Pogba, and I think Mourinho could get the best out of him, as he really strikes me as his ideal type of midfielder but I just think the potential fee has broken the insanity point.
Well we aren't talking defensive mids now are we? Kroos is comparable, but he is not going anywhere, nor does he want to come here. It would be insane to even ponder the idea. I don't think Isco is up for sale either, and he is not in competition with Pogba's position anyway.
Come on. It's not like he suddenly landed into a side which was challenging for European and English title. I really hope that we do now but at that point 4th place was what we were aiming for. History of the club and fan following aside, he was playing for more or less same ambitions. Step up wasn't the issue, the system was the issue. Under Jose, I have a strong belief that he'll come good. He just needs to bulk up a little
That could very well be the case. But the lack of chatter amongst the Madrid press across the board really makes me get the feeling that they're not in for him like we are. It's almost as if Perez is going though the motions to appease Zidane and then can shrug his shoulders when United pay a record fee for him.
I have an inkling that if Pogba was signed for Spurs he would be guaranteed a starting spot.

I agree that the 80m is overpriced, I'd say in this market he's worth about 60m tops taking his age into account, unfortunately though there is always a pelremium to pay when the club has no need or desire to sell.

Very few players are worth what some clubs are willing to offer. How many people said Madrid were nuts to buy Bale? How many of the same people would like us to buy Bale?..

It's not so simple as to say it's a circus. The most we ever spent on a player was what we paid for Di Maria. Most clubs would be tempted at that price. However, if we went for Kane, Lukaku etc - other clubs would probably ask for more and they are not as good as Di Maria (even though he was a weak player). How many people heard of Bailey? Or that young Mexican we're talking too? So maybe you need a little perspective. Was Blind a big name? Rojo?
Most clubs would have went for Falcao and we smartly got him on loan - rather then buying out right. We got Bastian for relatively cheap. Zlatan on a free. People tend to overrate the direction of the club. It's simple. If we want the next Bale and more importantly - if we want to regain our respect then we have to put our money where our mouth is.
If we called Madrids bluff and paid what they asked for a 29 year old Ramos - then you might have a point, but there's a degree of thought into what we do. We didn't call their bluff because I don't think we really wanted him - certainly not enough to pay what they were asking. Pogba is different since we know him and he's a young player with great potential. A player who would improve our team. For the moment however - we have to wait and see.

Are you serious? If the manager wants to buy a player for that amount of money, of course it's because he has a key role for him in the team. Don't even try to say that if Spurs sign Pogba for £100 million he will not be guaranteed to start matches because it's nonsense. Of course if the player doesn't play well for some time then he will lose this spot but any big money signing has a guaranteed place in XI for some time.
I don't understand how trying to sign the best players and build the best team can be described as being a circus. There's nothing embarrassing about showing ambition.

If that is why they are called a circus then why aren't Barcelona called the same for getting rid of the likes of Sanchez and Pedro for Neymar and Suarez.
Madrid get called that because of the way they handle managers and sell good players like Makelele for non football reasons
That's the thing, they're not exactly doing the same thing. For example, they will sell Makelele while a good 6 is critical for success... it seems that they've learned from their mistakes, but if they did, Pogba will not be a Real Madrid player.
Btw, don't they have a transfer ban or so? Surely that should affect Pogba too.
Are you seriously comparing the way Madrid and United run? If we were like Madrid we would have went out and got Lukaku or Kane no matter the money. But instead we got Zlatan to play for a year or two and then let Rashford have a chance. We don't make signings we don't need.
If this continues to drag out, and it's looking like we are having to pay £100,000,000 or more for a player who already has one eye on La Liga - wouldn't it be wiser to consider saying 'feck it' and using the money to buy hmm, let's say - both Aaron Ramsey and Ross Barkley for the same sort of money? Just a thought - any takers?

I wouldn't take Ramsey and Barkley even for £40 million... Barkley is just another massively overrated English player with a very limited talent. Ramsey is decent but nothing special also.

It's interesting how opinion has shifted on this transfer. Only a few weeks ago the 'sensible' posters were saying that Pogba was unattainable, a mere pipe dream. Now he's become a realistic target. The fans view of the club's ability to attract top players seems to change with every transfer rumour.
That's how it goes, sadly. The post-Fergie years have really done a number on some people. Personally think Pogba would piss this league.
