It doesn't excite anyone really but the statement does. For the last 3 years we've listened to people making excuses. We'll try harder. We'll do better. It's a little bit 'crazy' but then look at the players we missed out on because we weren't willing to go that extra yard? We could have got Hazard and what's his value now? We could have got Robben first time if Kenyon hadn't been so cheap. We could have got Ronaldinho but left it to late and Barcelona got involved. We could, as mentioned prior, have had Batistuta.....
We could have got Shearer but Saints didn't want to deal with us - nor Blackburn. We could have got Bale but similar story and again look at his 'value' now.
While some people love harping on about how Pogba is overrated, it's also important to mention that he is underrated at the same time by a lot of people in this very thread.
I see people keep talking about his potential and underrating his real level as to explain why it'd be banal to by him for the quoted fee. There is this confusion about what's going on with Pogba with many people still thinking he's still all about potential rather than the kid already delivering very high level football. His potential is just further boost but as he is now, he's already an excellent player and people tend to miss this for some odd reasons.
I think his few bad/OKeish performances at the EUro are clouding people's judgement and most are now just rating him way below his actual current level.

Yeah that's true, I'd be happy to get Pogba I just wonder if that much money couldn't be better spent elsewhere. The other players you've mentioned didn't go for anywhere near the kinds of money being talked about here.
When you are trying to buy someone for 100million and they are not yet at their level, you say potential to lower expectations. People have already acknowledged that he would improve our first team but there are still ways in which he can improve.
Man United have earned their money. City and Madrid have not as one is backed by an Arab billionaire and the other is backed by the Spanish government.

Reports are that Zidane does not want to break up his CL winning team. Why would he swap Pogba for Kroos? It will never happen.
There are a lot of conflicting reports tbh. Some say Zidane really wants Pogba but Perez doesn't really. Either way it wouldn't surprise me if they went for him.
The top 3 sides in Spain are under investigation for being state funded.
I hope that this is true. If Real are not in the running then I can see us signing Pogba for around 80m.

Why are we so concerned with money. It's not our money. Ed must have done some homework. After all those stupid movie promotions had some money coming in, right?
Yes, but that only riled up the United fanbase and made it clearer most wanted Jose as manager, now that Jose is manager he hasn't done any shit stirring.
In today's market with inflated prices, 100 million being quoted isn't surprising at all, that's simply how things roll now. If you want top players now(especially from a team that doesn't want to sell in the first place), clubs have to spend huge amount of money, sometimes even overpaying especially in our cases where we have very little fighting power beside money at this point(No CL to boost us).
100 million might be too much but we aren't the first to have to throw around huge or silly sum of money to get a marquee signing. In fact it's something which happen quite often with all elite and top club in Europe. All these Barca, Real etc have overspent at some point(and this despite currently being far more attractive destinations than us) and it helped them remain at the top of European football, that's simply the way things are. Money needs to be spent, it's as simple as that. Sometimes too much get spent, sometimes there are bargain but the important thing is to get needed players.
If we have money, why shy away and act as if we're struggling financially just for the sake of being stingy? What we need right now isn't money but players whom can only be required after spending money and plenty at that.
I know that we had, but I'd like the club to operate astutely and to not eagerly jump on every hype train whilst waving the checkbook.
But we don't, in fact it's kind of ridiculous how little we don't when you consider the size of the club. We're almost astute to a fault at times.
I have to agree with the other poster here. While it's not like the Arabs, Russian, Qatari... directly pump money to the clubs, Real Madrid did benefit from the government connection and influence. The way they overcome the debt within Perez first tenure, how they can take loan that easy to fund the Galaticos project, that TV deal, dodgy tax cases, dodgy young players transfer, have a newspaper that is like official outlet to further their agenda... (Some of these is the same with Barcelona and the Catalonia government)

Allow many huge loans out years after years for football transfer while Spain economy was doing badly... If not with some serious backing, it's hard to see it happen. I meant other teams found difficulty in funding their stadium expansion which is more safer loan, as it's long term transferable project. Player transfer is very risky considering, they can get a career ending injury soon after the transfer and there is no way to recover the transfer fee then.

Yeah but this isn't a player that we don't already know. It's not like we're about to offer this sort of money for everyone. There are only a few players we'd ever consider going this high for and I doubt we would for Ronaldo say....just my opinion but I think we are being astute. It just so happens it's a difficult transfer.

Went there against Republic of Ireland in the second half, and looked pretty good. Pretty much played the deeper role of the two, where he controlled the game and shown a good passing range.

I'm not concerned, I think that is a fair market price and we can afford it. The problem will be to convince Pogba to come here.
I don't think it's that much of a problem to convince him. If he's not 100% wanting to go to Spain? We can convince him by being direct/bold but United cannot afford to wait for this one deal so hopefully we've a few things lined up in case. Obviously the most important thing is France get knocked out tonight

Anyway most important thing is having right manager who will correctly identify transfer targets. In last 3 years we didn't exactly have a proper tillerman.

It's not as if he has been central in winning Juve titles on the trot and integral in taking them I a champions league final and semi back to back
I tend to agree.
If you see how much Moyes and LVG spent between them compared to the price of Pogba which is more likely around £60-70million then surely it's better business to get someone who can make the difference in the team and the league!

Technically it's not because the City would have changed the status of the lands after the sell like they did for the rest of the area, you are suggesting that the City council buy lands under their value, they could but it's not fair. Also as the article suggests, the City needed and wanted the land in the first place.
I'm not opposing this transfer a priori, but my stance regarding it depends on the final fee.
It will also just lead to everyone questioning why we would want to buy him for x amount too tbh.

In any case the value of the old city training is not so far from the real value (in my opinion) since it was situated in the best part of Madrid. Madrid got the rest of top players thanks to the revenue, the government didn´t finance it. They get bank credits basically because althought they have debt they also pay it, as a normal private society.However football in Spain is like this, Madrid is the pride of Spain and in case of need it will be always protected, I think that is not a secret, and not related to the thread.
I don't see how any of them would fit into Madrid. They'd just be buying to stop others from getting.
Zidane favours a 433. Hazard wouldn't get into the team over Ronaldo or Bale and he's not a centre midfielder.
Pogba could possibly come get into the team over Casemiro, with Kroos playing the holding role, but that would ruin the balance of the team.
