Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Sorry to be boring but a quick show of hands as things stand right now - do you believe we will sign Pogba?

Not me. I accept that there is a chance of us successfully signing him, but I expect Real will actually sign him this summer, fuelled by maybe English money or Russian money if Morata goes to Arsenal or Chelsea, or Qatari money if PSG take James. Regardless, once they have sold someone then I think Real will strike a deal with Juve for significantly less than the figures the media are linking us with.

The next likely outcome in my view is that he stays at Juve. Both those outcomes are likelier than him coming to us I think, but I'm just a pessimistic bastard :smirk:

In today's Prem-inflated market, for a club that can afford to gamble: £50m
I'm not sure how significant the caveat of affording a gamble is in the current market. Teams like West Ham and Crystal Palace have thrown down offers eclipsing £30m on players without a problem this summer.

I think you've been a bit conservative in your valuation of Pogba too. The reality of the transfer market now is that you have to pay silly money to secure your targets - that much is evident from the offers Watford have turned down for Deeney and Ighalo or the amount Liverpool had to pay to secure Mané from Southampton.

United can easily ship out Jones, Rojo, Mata, Herrera and recoup a lot of the money to spend elsewhere.

The club could also sell Rooney to China or another club for 30M+ and still have money to spend on some other players.

The squad does still have good players that aren't in the plans going forward.

There's also players like Januzaj to go on loan, Tyler Blackett to still play some role, its far from over in the summer.

United are one of the most profitable clubs in Europe and that won't change.

Easily ship out? Rooney going to China is a fantasy. And very few clubs will be able and/or willing to pay the wages that your players are on ... which means that unless you strike deals that involve United continuing to pay/subsidise the wages for other clubs, most of these players won't take a pay cut and leave .

I don't have to think about it. I already know it ... unlike some fantasists on here, who seem to believe that United have endless amounts of money.

For example, Poster X says" I don't care what we spend on Pogba". Well, Poster X will care very much when it comes to the much reduced amount available to spend on other players, either later this summer and/or the next window and/or the next one after that.
Why would we need money to spend on other players when Mourinho has said he has 4 targets? And of course we'll have money available next summer. We can easily spend £100+ net every summer.

Being a fantasist - (takes one to know one), doesn't draw debt on a club. That's because we don't spend the money. Those who spend the money, know what they are doing. You are looking at it from one perspective and that perspective as we know, isn't a United fan. You don't give a shit. You just like wumming United fans more then supporting your team.

He's been saying this over and over yet each summer comes and we keep spending the money due to our mammoth revenues, like you say he's just on the WUM and amazingly some still bite after all these years of the same act.

We are still in the lead and we will make a deal. Its us getting our Hollywood player. If Di Marzio is right about Pogba having agreed to join us, this will the worlds biggest transfer.
Thanks for the update, appreciate it.

Just like we couldn't move on Nani or RVP.

Do you think we have some amount of money and if we spend it that's that, no money is coming into the club.
Or we won't, I don't know, sell players and similar?

We seem to be briefing again about Pogba. I hate to use the word 'embarrassing', but it might seem that way when Madrid come and snap him up.

As a one off, that wouldn't be too bad, but it keeps happening with all high profile targets who are being courted by other top clubs.

Players like Mata, Herrera and Rooney if they were transfer listed wouldn't be short of any takers, the same goes for Carrick next season.

Rojo and Jones clubs like Everton, Stoke would be all over too.

A player like Pogba will always end up with the Media briefed, if United don't the agent will.

As an Agent you notify everywhere possible to try and get more money.

Anyone doubting the transfer price just think about this for a second. Imagine next season watching Mkhitaryan playing in Martial,Ibrahimovic,Rashford and Pogba.
That is a mouthwatering prospect.
Plus, Pogba is an excellent provider as well as is Martial, so not only would we have plenty of players putting the ball in the back of the net, we have a few players who excel at finding those players in dangerous areas.
We would still have plenty of areas of the pitch that need addressing, but that attack is certainly good enough to carry us through our problems in defence and even midfield to an extent.

If Martial, Pogba and Schneiderlin all occupied the same triangle of the pitch it bodes well for france too.

I hope we can agree that Pogba has accomplished far more than any of those three players.

It isn't the reality at all. It's the reality you've convinced yourself of from all the hype. Alli cost £4m. Dier cost £5m. Has the football world changed so much since then?

You seem to have taken as gospel all the media guff about which clubs have offered what amounts for player X, when most of it is, of course, not true. Even £35m for Mane pales besides £100m for Pogba.

Absolutely. Although I still think Schneiderlin has plenty to prove, but if anyone can get him at its best it's Mourinho.

Yet we still got Mourinho, Zlatan on a free, and Miki Targaryan for the price of one Troy Deeney.

If these are our dark days, imagine yours. Shudders.
Don't forget we have won ONE TROPHY more than Spuds in our deepest darkest days
They have won the square root of feck all

Yes it has. The new tv deal has given money to clubs lower in the league that they never had before. You got lucky with alli being at a poor club originally, I can't see it being so easy from now on.

I think we are confident that we can out price them. They really don't need to be entering silly money bidding wars for midfielders.

There's really too much smoke right now in this story. Although Madrid can always swoop in and take him. But all the papers are running a story about how we're negotiating and are willing to pay the fee and stuff.

Are people still suckered in by Glaston? If WUMing is an artform, his is a stickman drawn in shit on a toilet cubicle wall.
As long as mods still allow him to do whatever he does, then people still want be entertained :smirk:

How has he survived this long? Somebody at least thread ban him please. Nobody wants to read what some Spuds fan thinks of Manchester United's transfer policy and financial situation in a Paul fecking Pogba thread. Back to transfer muppetry!

Understood, if you do buy him this summer do you think Zidane will play Ronaldo as a #9?
I have no idea ,actually I already wonder the same thing. It's not a really necessary signing but conditioned by the future transfer ban

Our spending is all rather new and as such we don't have a lot of baggage on the books from the Fergie/Gill days. Since then our net spending has not really been as high as you might think given the headlines. Meanwhile our revenues have grown substantially. Through the first 9months of fiscal 2016, it's up 32%(!) from the previous year. That's incredible growth, and practically unheard of for an already-gigantic operation. Operating profits (what's left *after* expenses like salaries and transfer fees) have nearly tripled to £65m. No, we cannot buy just £100m players and survive. But if we continue to do business as we have done, including selling to recoup some fees and adding from the academy, then we can certainly afford to spend similarly to this summer's plan, e.g. £125m net, for the foreseeable future.

At the end of the season he was WUMMING everyone by saying, no good player from a CL club would join United (regardless of money), because United have no CL football.
Check his posts history.

He has changed his tune now

Pogba needs to force a move. Its that simple. Looks like he wants to come just needs to hand in a transfer request and throw a few things

The increased amounts of money being given to Premier League clubs from the new TV deal has directly affected prices of players, even in relation to last summer, so yes.

Dier and Alli were both very much unproven at the top level anyway when you signed them. It makes sense that neither of them would command fees close to those of players who have played in the Premier League, or even the Champions League and World Cup in Pogba's instance.

I'm not sure why you're so quick to dismiss it all as 'media guff' when most of those bids have been corroborated by well respected journalists and media outlets.

Ask him about the transfer price of Soldado and Lamela. Wages of Adebayor (for partying all year in toga) etc.

We've been itching to spend a world record transfer fee on one player since we unsuccessfully bid 100m for bale in the summer he moved to Madrid. Since then we've tried to buy Neymar and Muller. We didn't really spend much net last summer due to sales such as Di Maria. I agree with you that 100m for Pogba is silly, but I disagree it'll have any significant effect on United's future spending power. I don't think it'll affect us as much as you think it will. I think we've probably got enough to buy a galactico for that kind of money every summer, on top of one or two other 'standard' 30m purchases.

I agree there are bargains to be had, none more so than producing your own academy players or promoting from the reserves. In that regard, we have Rashford and TFM to look forward to, amongst others. We've actually saved probably circa 60-70m in those two players already.

In summary, I agree 100m is a bit nuts, but I doubt it'll leave much of a dent on United's spending ability going forward.
