Once either Messi or Ronaldo leave La Liga (or retire which will happen at some point the next few years its inevitable) nobody will care about that league anymore. It will be like the French league for most people. Do you think Sky will want Ballbag then trying to hype up getafe!?

He tries to make La Liga seem sophisticated but its appeal can be simplified down to 2 men.

The Premier League has much more going for it in terms of structure, money, honesty, integrity and actually the show The likes of Sky and Bt Sport put on is second to none.

If I was a top playing i would want to go to England as you have maximum exposure in Asia, America etc and treated like a god the women and press.
 
Signing zlatan on a free transfer give us the extra millions from the transfer kitty to spend on other areas, and in this case for pogba (most likely).

Plus we have already got micky for just 27million which looks like a steal at this moment.

100million is nuts when you think about it, but for a 23 year old midfielder, already one of the best, bound to be the face of adidas (neymar for nike) when ronaldo and messi slows down, and the most important thing make us better. Just try and get him.
 
£100M in this day and age is peanuts for a 23 year old with potentially 10+ years of service to this club. £10 a season isn't that what we paid for 1 season of Falcao!? If someone asked you would you loan Pogba for £10 a season you would snap their hands off ! Not to mention his marketing value for ethnic minorities and the face of Nike or Adidas in the future.

Nobody thinks Paul Pogba will fail, he was literally made to play in the Premier League with his size, athletism and pace. He is as guaranteed to succeed here as any signing I've ever seen.

Oh and the message it would send everyone the World is United is back, and would instantly make teams fear us again psychologically we will have them beat in the tunnel again ! That's worth it alone ! :devil:

Unfortunately I believe that since he got a Euro final coming up Sunday, he will be preoccupied for the whole week in any case (either celebrating or in agony). So if the deal goes through, IMO the earliest chance for announcement would be the week after.

Nothing comes close to the Ronaldinho saga of 2003. After he chose Barca over us my inner muppet died, and since then i'm immune to any other failed transfer sagas.

Pogba is not worth 100M, but when we consider that Mane, Stones and Deeney are valued at almost 120M, it highlights the general inflation of transfers. Not to mention the fact that we can get our money back if we resell Pogba to Madrid.

A. 100 million pounds for any player, let alone a midfielder who won't be winning you titles on his own, is absolutely NOT peanuts. If it were, people would be shattering that record left, right and center.
B. I am dead certain we won't be getting 10 years service from him. I am expecting 3 years before the Madrid siren sounds and he picks up his hiney to move there. All I hope is we take them to the cleaners like never heard of before when that happens.
 
I just can't swallow the horrible business. It's like we grew a potato, gave it to someone for free and bought it for 100million. :wenger:
 
I'm excited to have him back as well as mad to have let him go for nothing. I'll blame his previous agent, of whom I know nothing, for that fiasco. Thanks to our marketability we have a chance to make things right.

Completely agree, beating them in the tunnel may take a few years of dominance to build up again but it's definitely a big feck you to all the people who said we were finished and couldn't attract any talent etc, on top of the fact he's just that good that he will boss the midfield and improve us immensely.

I hope he signs :D
 
I expect us to find out next week if he is coming or not.

Raiola will present the offer from us and Juventus will decide whether to sell or not.
 
I'm totally relaxed about all of this.

If we mange to buy Pogba we get all the benefits that come with it.

If we DON'T, then we know we will buy at least one world class midfielder, who in the long run might actually turn out to be better than Pogba himself. We have the cash and the will.
 
Money and age seem to be the two biggest talking points on these forums.
Who cares how much we have to pay for Pogba in an age when money is no object anymore and we are only going to get richer.

Hands up who thought we had a good midfield last season? Feck sake, Pogba will be a massive cog in our midfield and if we are in for him then i can't wait, no matter the price, in fact it's about time we showed the rest of the world that we mean business.

One way to look at it is that if he had of stayed we might have had to sell him last summer or at least this summer (due to being played in goal all season), so this way he will be used properly by Jose and all will be well in the world:)

That's right and I hope that is enough. In terms of priority, I feel we need a AM who can play centrally behind Ibrahimovic and a replacement for the role Carrick plays. Although not on the same level, but we already have Fellaini and Herrera playing in similar areas as Pogba so that shouldn't be our number one priority.

There's always this little doubt of foreign homegrown players wanting to explore greener pastures, maybe an irrational fear from the Ronaldo transfer. But this may work out fine in the long run because we'll do everything possible to get the peak years out of our most expensive transfer to ourselves.

But if you turn it around - name one player who has been a success, where in retrospect you can claim, he wasn't worth it ? Andy Cole - £7 million - Alan Shearer £15 million. Wayne Rooney £23 million. Rio Ferdinand £30 million. Cristiano Ronaldo £80 million. Gareth Bale £85 million. I am sure someone said the same thing about all those transfers.

Hell, they were all worth it - in retrospect you could say that they were all steals - simply because football is getting more expensive. So if we sign Pogba today - yes he will be expensive, but if he is a success (which he will be), we will look back at it in 5-6 years and say that he was well worth the money.

I'm all for Pog and think hes worth every penny of the 100m. However you're argument is flawed, for every success there are a number of failures so it's always a risk. Look at Sterling., looks like a spectacular waste of money now.

This is the state that football is in right now - where not only are clubs paying 100mil for a player but even a club like Juve are able to reject it. Back in the day clubs would snap your hands off if they got 40-50mil for a player. Now they're rejecting 100mil bids.

100m are not peanuts. Its a big chunk of money even for today's football standards. However Its also ridiculous to quote Ibra's non fee and Mkhitaryan deal to argue against that. The former was on free, the latter had just 1 year of contract and he wanted to leave

I believe that 60M would be the going rate for a player like him. However considering that

a- he's young
b- he's homegrown
c- he's the player we need
d- we are desperate for a big signing to show the world we mean business

Then I wont mind spending 40m more to get this deal done. After all its 10m less to what we spent on the oversized toilet brush

And then remember that we wasted almost an identical figure on Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini and Memphis and these are players who on current form shouldn't get anywhere close to the pitch. So I'm all for spending it on Pogba, recovering some of it through the sales of Mata, Herrera, Fellaini and squeezing the remaining bits of class from Schweinsteiger and Carrick by using them in rotation. However Woodward and Mourinho should gauge the liklihood of this deal and draw a line under it by giving Raoila and Pogba a deadline on which we withdraw our interest and move for other targets - 20 July seems about right to me.

Only watched 3 minutes, can't watch the whole thing being half an hour long. Those first 3 minutes are full of nice control and touches etc but all in non dangerous areas but there's nothing contributed of any substance going forward, half of the time hes going side ways. Maybe the video picks up over the next 25 minutes..

Yeah he has lot of respect for Juve and Italy. In a post-match interview, he said when seeing Italy lose, he felt like he was seeing his own team lost. I think Evra said about the same.

Anyways, I would be very surprised but proud if we reject $120m

Pogba is not Messi I do want us to sign him though but this is risky. Griesman or Kroos for me would have been a better signing. I said it a month ago but if we do sign Pogba I won't be sad as his potential is monster high and he will improve us.

Great points. Would also add the fact that he is already a big name in Europe and is one of Juve's key players. It will always take a special bid to get such a player from a club that has won the their domestic league for the past four years.

It is odd and the fact Skyitalia then came out with Pogba not wanting to leave and Juve CAN turn down 120m euros. In Di Marzio I trust but he was saying he agreed in principle only and now more reports today saying he will not actively push a move from Juve, to me feels like what I always thought, he hoped Real could match us and come in for him. I just think he will stay at Juve and then have his dream move next summer. Hope I'm wrong of course.

Obviously Raiola really wants the move to happen as he will get a shit tonne of money. I'm still skeptical though but I always am when it comes to United and these huge mega deals we get linked with since Ed has been in charge. But that's just me, glass half empty kind of guy!

If he does stay at Juve it will look quite - enter the cafs favourite word during LvG tenure - embarrassing if we get turned down by the player after all the reports to the contrary across the European press and from various trusted sources.
