Pre-season tour 2016-17

Why Galatasaray in Sweden and not a Swedish team?
Wouldn't all Swedish teams be in the middle of their season since I think it starts in March and goes till November or something?!
If we want to play against a swedish team in pre-season then surely against the best swedish teams....but the best swedish teams are playing CL or EL qualification in July/August.

Is there an official fixture list with time and place of our games?

Saturday July 16th 13:30 BST, DW Stadium
Wigan vs United

Friday July 22nd 13:00 BST, Shanghai Stadium
Dortmund vs United

Monday July 25th 12:30 BST, Beijing National Stadium
City vs United

Saturday July 30th 18:30 BST, Ullevi Stadium (Gothenburg, Sweden)
Galatasaray vs United

Wednesday August 3rd 20:00 BST, Old Trafford
United vs Everton (Rooney testimonial)

Sunday August 7th 16:00 BST, Wembley
Leicester vs United (Community Shield)

Mourinho said English internationals (Smalling, Rooney, Rashford) will go to China, but won't play any games. I suppose the same logic should apply to other internationals, like Darmian or Fellaini. And perhaps those who finished their duty early will be able to play, like the Copa America guys Romero, Rojo (probably not), Valencia, and De Gea, McNair, Ibrahimović…

But some – those still competing, like Martial, Schneiderlin, Pogba (or Matuidi, hopefully), or Schweinsteiger (if he recovers from his knee injury) – might even be on vacation during the tour. It's a very tricky situation for an incoming manager, not having all those players to play those big (friendly) games agains Dortmund and City.

Thanks mate! So we will be in Asia for about a week. Just doesnt really make sense

Are United providing 'official' streaming for these games, like they did last year?
(For those of us who live abroad and can't subscribe to MUTV).

Although the streaming wasn't brilliant, was a decent way of seeing the pre-season games for me. Couldn't find any mention of it on United's website.

So this Wigan game... Who do we even have available for a starting 11?

Johnstone?
Varela Jones Bailly Shaw
Carrick Herrera
Mkhitaryan Lingard Depay
Wilson?
Not as bad as I thought, actually...

From Manutd.com:
'Jose Mourinho told MUTV on Tuesday he expects Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe to be in the squad for the opening pre-season friendly at Wigan Athletic on 16 July.'

Will probably be a lot of U-21's but also First Team players who have had no competitive games over summer such as Blind, Varela, Januzaj, Young, CBJ and Pereira. I'm not sure if it's a proper friendly or one of those where it's like a 'United XI' made up of mostly youngsters.

First half
Johnstone - Warren, Jones, Bailly, Shaw - Herrera, Fosu-Mensah; Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Memphis - Wilson

Second half
J.Pereira - Valencia, Tuanzebe, Blackett, Blind - A.Pereira, Carrick; Januzaj, Mata, Young - Keane

So we're only playing 2 (possibly 3) foreign teams during pre-season? Just doesn't seem right to me.

With the Rooney testimonial and the Community shield, we obviously cant play a lot more. Gala and BvB are enough.

I know, but it just seems wrong. I don't like playing English teams in pre-season.

Everyone above keeps mentioning Varela should play, but I swear I read on SkySports this morning he is going to be released with Blackett?

...anyone know?

With the side that we'll have available ? Not sure that I am really.
The amusing thing I referred to is that even though many Asian fans support players more than clubs, Asia is completely owned by Manchester United(speaking from experience in 20 Asian countries). Especially now that Ibra and maybe Pogba are on their way, I'd expect blue shirts by the dozens at most.

Either way, it will be hilarious to see the look on the faces of Pep and the new signings (Nolito - siempre está lleno, no?) when they realise how small their club is in comparison to ours.

The BBC is saying Ibra might not go to China on tour with the team. Perhaps he'll only appear in Gothenburg (Sweden) against Galatasaray. I'm wondering, though, what's the rationale of this for Mourinho… Maybe he doesn't want Ibra's vanity to impact so soon on the other players (namely Rooney).

He's just giving him some rest. Long season + the Euros.

Hope we see the likes of Pereira, Mensah, Tuanzebe and Januzaj in action. And obviously Zlatan

Anyone who play in international tournaments in June usually skip the tour.

Think it'll be Fosu-Mensah over Varela and personally doubt Mata will feature or even be at the club by then but I'd agree with the rest of the team. Personally excited to see which youngsters will be on the bench and get a run out.

The game is in 3 days mate. Don't think Mata will leave by then.

So why is Valencia (Copa America) already with the team and the English players said to that part in the tour, although not featuring in the games? Besides, since Ibra's last game was 22 June, his vacation will amount to a month plus a week. A bit too much, if you ask me...

Was watching the China pre-season tour's show -- nice to see Vidic on TV again. I assume he will be going to China with the lads. They can learn a thing or two about commitment.

Why does this matter?

Mainly because we play them so much already it just becomes a bit stale. I like playing new teams in pre-season. Also, there is a bit of a risk that these contests might be a bit too fierce for pre-season, especially the Manchester derby.
