Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Just realistic. It's all part of the process of raising the temperature and getting the best price, I would think. Otherwise why do it?

Maybe just maybe he put no deal done yet on his twitter because you know the deal for Pogba isn't done yet.

If City hadn't wasted a fortune on buying so many average players the last few years they'd be in for Pogba but Pep has inherited a squad that needs a lot of work. Lost count of how many centre half's they've bought and its still a huge problem for them. They can't spend £100m on Pogba, £45m on Sane and £50m on Stones. Its been several years since City bought a player that I was jealous off.

Wait so all the sources are wrong about fees and such being agreed according to the agent. This is going to drag on for a little while longer yet I fear.

Danny de Vito obviously thinks there's another couple of bob to be had somewhere in the deal.
Doesn't Raiola just remind you of De Vito in his first major role as the dispatcher on Taxi.

Mancini was so underrated for them. The way he built a spine of Aguero, Silva and Toure was brilliant. Back then every single one of their buys was quality.

Can't see Jones starting ahead of Bailly.

I hope you're right and agree with you. I'm just going from a rumour that apparently Jose has told a few people that he see's Smalling & Jones as his first choice centre backs. I am hoping it's BS.

Things can change if someone impresses him more. He will figure it out

We didn't have the money to compete with them back then and PSG weren't about so they were able to buy Toure & Aguero without any competition. Its been a while since City bought a top player that they had real competition for.

Duncan Castles said before the weekend (he has been pretty clued up so far), so presumably we will hear something tonight / tomorrow?

Most of the news on this transfer has come out at night so I wouldn't be surprised to hear something later.

Let's say Mourinho plays a 4231 with Rooney has his No 10.
Has Mourinho ever played such an attack minded CM in a midfield 2?
I know he played Madric next to Alonso behind Ozil and Fabregas next to Matic behind Oscar. But Modric is way ahead of a Pogba when it comes to cteolling a game and is better tactically. Also, Fabregas was great from September to December but his form nosedived after that.
Note: Mourinho said he doesn't want Rooney anywhere near midfield.
Fabregas, as you mentioned. Fabregas/matic was good as a pairing mostly against the lower caliber teams, but it was exposed against some higher quality teams. I don't get the feeling pogba, and perhaps Schneiderlin, would get exposed in the same way. They are both physical presences (unlike Fabregas) and both good defensively (Pogba is far better than Fabregas, for example). Still you raise an interesting point, but I'd trust Pogba on the defensive end far more than Fabregas.

The news on this has gone quiet. We have to be done with it soon. We seem at such a late stage of negotiations that anything can happen tonight/tomorrow.

De Bruyne was signed in spite of Bayern Munich making it clear they would sign him the following summer if he waited. Who was the last top player United signed who you had real competition for?

I'm sure it's only United that drag things out like this! I might just be imagining it but other teams always tend to go from interested in a player to signing said player much quicker!
I suppose though with such a huge transfer sum involved it was never going to be easy.

An excuse for what? I have no idea what your point even is. Yes we could buy Pogba, Gundogan and Stones but then what about Nolito and Zinchenko who we've already signed? Sane who is close to a deal? Bonucci who we are pursuing? What about addressing our full-backs? City's board will have a much better idea than you over how much of a hit signing Pogba would be on the budget. Plus, his cost right now is exorbitant and United are the only team in for him, imagine how much more Juventus would squeeze out of him if City and United were going toe-to-toe for him.
You're guessing as much as I am though. Just because City have a better idea over their budget doesn't make your theory any closer to the truth.
I'll just say this. When United got wind of Pep joining City and we briefed the press that we stepped away because we didn't want him anyway, you / Polite Poster / Gentleman Jim proceeded to give us a tonne of shit for it.
This is the exact same scenario.
Not once have I read that Pep is under FFP restrictions. Since he agreed to join it's been the exact opposite.
Explain the approaches for Kroos? Are you holding off transfers in case Madrid sign Pogba and he becomes available? What about FFP then?
If you sign Bonucci and Stones you will have added 100m worth of central defenders to the 100m worth that you already have and yet FFP is holding you back from signing Pogba?
You could sell Nasri to fund Nolito. Lets not pretend that transfer impacts who else you can afford to approach.
We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

You only think this because you focus on our business. All teams drag transfers out. Just look at Sane to City.

Following summer? He'd have been crazy to turn down the chance to quadruple his wages in the hope that Bayern would sign him the following summer, thats not competition.

There is indeed denial in all of this. The truth is that Pogba wouldn't consider City, we know it and they know it. It is just a bit of a sour grape for them to swallow, need to lube it up and sugar it a bit.

No, it's not only United. And you are not imagining it, you are just much less aware of other club's interests in players. For example, can you say for certain when Sane to City rumours started? Soon after Pep got appointed? May? Last week?

I don't think Jose paid almost £30mil for Baily to sit on the bench.

I think that unless we sign another centre back, it will be Jones and Smalling as the first choice pairing to start the season.

Jose has mentioned that Bailly cannot speak English yet, and he really wants his defenders to be able to communicate with each other effectively.

Van Persie.

I don't think either player was comparable to Keane. They are attacking midfielders, where as Keano was the epitome of a box to box midfielder.

Yes, a Toure in prime form would be good (not my taste; still good). Though, Pogba has some distance to cover to reach that level.
Gerrard and Toure, in their prime, were fantastic box to box midfielders. It was only in their latter years they were given a less dynamic role.

Berbatov (City)
RVP (City)
Shaw (City, Chelsea)
Martial (City, PSG)
Pogba (City, Madrid, Chelsea, Barca)

But to name a few...

there seems to be a common theme here, but I see what you mean about real competition so you are right

Sell him to a team that then benches him? Christ, you must really hate him.

I should have written "or" instead of "and"

Or they simply couldn't deliver anymore and failed to adapt/change their game accordingly.

For Martial it wasn't PSG but Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and earlier Tottenham. Little competition.

Also to a certain degree I would include Depay, not a top player yet but showed serious signs of it at PSV and loads of clubs were after him. Also David De Gea signing a new contract and not joining Madrid (I class it as fending off competition.)

Did we not beat PSG for the initial signging of di María, too? I don't remember.
