Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Not saying it's not a hint or that he won't take it, but who of our players would have taken it? From the players that changed numbers, it doesn't really suit anyone.
Well anybody could have really, maybe smalling didn't want 15. Pogba wears 6 at juve and suddenly we've left it free.

That to me says it's his.

The same reason Ronaldo ditched us, because apparently it is Real fecking Madrid

This probably helps us to spend this kind of money. We'll be viewing this deal as either us getting a top player for the next 10 years or a top player for a fews year before selling him on for a profit in the future (assuming transfer fees haven't peaked). The potential return-on-investment would be a factor in us going for him.

We just need to make sure we don't let him go for free a second time.

Ronaldo is a different case. He had always wanted to play for Madrid since being old enough to play football. Pogba has never said such things as far as we're aware. Every other player, except for Ronaldo, we've sold to Madrid on our terms.

I think he wants to play for Madrid, partly because of the allure of the white shirt, partly because Zidane is now the trainer and has a big attraction on french players.

We will also have to see if Mou can actually bring us back to that level were we are competing with Madrid for the trophies instead of competing with for 4th place.

But lets not worry about it at this time, first we need to actually sign Pogba, then we will see

He said that but initially it was that he wanted to play in Spain. Started saying Madrid was his dream when they made contact.
Fergie says in his biography that Ronaldo made it known the first time they contact United about a transfer that he has dreamed of playing for Madrid since he was a boy and Fergie convinced him to give one more season before allowing him to leave. But as I said, Ronaldo is the only player we've lost to Madrid that we lost because they preferred Madrid over us.

if history teaches us anything madrid will probably have a new manager by 2017. Pogba knows better:lol: madrid is the last place you sign for because you like the manager

I do agree also, of the available numbers, its seems the most appropriate for him. He does however wear 10 at Juve now I believe. Let's hope its sorted ASAP now.

According to his brother, he also dreamt of playing for Arsenal.

‘Paul is a little crazy, obviously in the best sense,’ said Florentin.

‘His dreams? When he was little, the clubs that made the dream were Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.’

So we can say when Real Madrid signed Ronaldo they beat every other team in world football to his signature seen as every team would have wanted him? The original post referred to 'real competition'. I would not call it 'real competition' if only one team is willing to meet the selling club's valuation.

The word you're looking for here is able.

Anyhow..reports of City's interest have now been made public.

I think that was because they tapped him up

Well if the reports are true, Madrid asked for more time so they could strike a deal and he told them he'd promised himself to United. That doesn't sound like a player that has always dreamed of playing for Madrid. I can see why he would want to play under Zidane but there's no guarantee he'll even be there at the end of the season.

United are big in France due to the amount of French players that we've had over the years so there's no reason why he doesn't see the clubs on par with each other.

It is weird that all the Pogba news seems to come out late at night - I wonder if we will get an update tonight

What about Bailly? 6 seems more natural than 3 for a center back. Shaw may have given up #3 to Bailly in order to make 6 available for a future signing.

It's not really weird at all, all the negotiations and meetings would have been taking place during the day.

Could have been but Ronaldo still had to force the transfer and make that move himself.

There would be no reason to force the move if he didn't have another agenda. United would have matched his wages and given him whatever Madrid were offering to keep him so it must have been his personal feelings for Madrid that swung it for him.

At the time United had also been in two Champions league finals and the English league had the best teams.

Nah, Shaw prefers #23 for some odd reason. I would have liked our LB to have #3 but oh well.

Thats an english thing, our manager is portuguese. I seem to remember van gaal referring to no. 6 as a holding midfield role.

Always found this wired. Met a lot of French people with Man Utd as their first club. Which I think is strange cause they're a lot of big clubs in France.

People are reading way too much into the #6 thing. Jose would have wanted it left vacant for whoever we get, whether it's Pogba or his second/third choices.

Cheers!
Knew that we were after him but didn't know the details. Didn't think that such a fringe player would be worth of a saga. Would hardly make the bench at United.
Sneijder and Vidal on the other hand...:(

Thiago is immense, when fit and healthy. That seems to be the problem though. Never fit. He'd walk into almost any team if he could stay fit though.

Remember guys, even though 6 is empty at the minute - currently the numbers are provisional. So if we get him he might not get the number 6. Maybe it's a subtle hint or maybe it's nothing :)

I personally hope that we give Mata '18' if he stays, Young is sold and Pogba gets the #8

Strange you see so many more french players in england than spain since they share a border. england and italy seem to be their preferred locations though.

This is true but imagine he took 8 from Mata. It wouldn't look too good now. The fact they have released provisional numbers today is to sell named shirts come Saturday morning.

At Juve, Allegris played him as number 10 in a diamond at the beginning of the season, then changed to a 4-3-3 and after to a flat 4-4-2 and Pogba played false left winger

<---------------------------GET OUT.

Do you guys really think Jose gives a flying f*ck about squad numbers? He's a fully grown man.
well, we're grown men and we're discussing it so we obviously give a feck. The guys a football manager. Presumably he takes football seriuosly.

Squad numbers make a huge difference to the younger generation, yes. Ibrahimovic #9 will sell by the bucketload, for example.

Pogba #8 simply looks better from a marketing angle than Pogba #38.
