I think if possible we should go for Matuidi. This way we significantly improve our midfield and at the same time corner Juve/Raiola as we won't be seen as having all our eggs in one basket and are not in a desperate situation T o sign him. we would have Matuidi who is a top level midfielder and avoid risking getting no one in the end in such a crucial position for us. This could force their hand.

No. Matuidi doesn't improve our midfield 'significantly'.

You can't even answer the bloody question though. What did Bale achieve before his move to Real Madrid? He earned that move on the back of one great season, 2012/13. Pogba has achieved more with Juventus and has earned this transfer fee.

based on reports it literally sounds like he's waiting in the wings as backup / secondary. Seems like good old woody has got the deal done now though

Manchester United talked to Juventus in a video conference as speculation over Paul Pogba's future rages on.

Only one day after the Bianconeri established a record for the most expensive transfer between two Italian clubs, signing Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain for €90m, they are being touted to recoup the entirety of the money and more.

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport both claim in today's headlines that the Frenchman's departure to the Red Devils is a matter of hours, and their report is bouncing within English media.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio reported yesterday that a deal had yet to be found, and La Gazzetta's own account of the meeting between Juve's director general Beppe Marotta and the player's agent Mino Raiola is not as conclusive as their headline.

Marotta and Raiola were allegedly joined in a video conference by Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward as they discussed the possibility of a move.

It's unknown how far they went towards reaching an agreement, though most media outlets believe there are still some details to be ironed out.

These are all economic in nature, as United reportedly offered €110m, which comes short of the request for €120m.

Yeah but Madrid probably worked on him for much longer. Plus Sir Alex was retiring. So it wouldn't have been an ideal period to prize him away. Spurs would rather take less money from Madrid then more from us. Another thing is Bale is a glory hunter. So it would make sense for him and he also fancied playing with Ronaldo. There was a lot of reason to move but maybe at some point he'll want to come home.
I think Bale was a RM fan as a boy or at least when he signed there was a picture of him as a boy in a RM shirt. Having said that it is RM and they probably photoshopped it from a red shirt.

How about we just stick with plan A.

I don't think there's any coincidence that Matuidi was the one we were being linked to a couple of weeks back. It was just United and Raiola putting pressure on Juventus with a backup option.

Wow I must have missed something I was way back in the middle of 600 pages.

Just turned my phone on since I was badly sick last night and was trying to catch up this morning.
it would have been in the Matuidi thread. Just seemed that he was always back up and basically ready to sign at moments notice

If the La Stampa article is correct then it means yesterday's meeting saw the 3 parties reach a compromise. Juve get their world record fee of €100m, Raiola gets 15% instead of 20% and everyone's happy.

We have no pace, steel or dynamism in our midfield. You won't get much better than him.

"No"?
That's a stretch even for you
 I didn't say he won't improve us. He just won't improve us 'significantly'. He had a poor season last season and he's getting on.

Interesting bit on the last sentence there. But my understanding is Juve wont get the 5%, or any other club apart from United. Because this is his second transfer with it, only the last club to train him (us) get the 5%. Might be talking shite though...
