The Real Madrid and Pogba link has been really strange. It's all come across as half-arsed from them. If they were seriously interested in him then they would have made every effort to sign him earlier, before we agreed terms with him. But if they never had any serious intention of signing him then why do the Spanish press persist with mentioning Madrid? It does them no favours, just emphasises the fact they've lost out to United, which surely they'd prefer to avoid. I'd have thought if they knew they were going to lose to us early on then they would tell the press categorically that they have no interest in him and leave it at that. Zidane should have kept him mouth shut too.

Perhaps Real Madrid were counting on Pogba turning us down and making a big song and dance about wanting to join them? Could explain it.

A tactic that's becoming familiar with Real and they used with De Gea last year to disasterous affect. Woo a player until the last moment of the window and hope the selling club will lower their price out of desperation to rid of the player.
