My takeway from that article was he thinks paying so much for one player is putting all your eggs in one basket. If he got injured....

The problem with that thinking is it does not take into account what a special player can contribute. Of course any player can get injured.
To me it sounded like he was just saying that just because United spent a lot of money doesn't mean that Liverpool are out of it. The injury was just one example of how nothing is set in stone. The team spirit was the other half and that it can go a long way to compete. Basically, if money was the only thing that mattered in football, he would be gone because there would be no more coaching involved.

Yeah LVG didn't manage him properly at all. Such a shame it didn't work out.
God knows why LVG even signed him, he's pretty much the completely opposite of a footballer he likes, apart from pace. Really was a train wreck that deal.

On one hand I'm gonna miss this thread.
But on the other hand I'm happy this thread will be no more as i feel like I'm addicted to hitting the refresh button.

In all honesty. We've thrown away all what remained of SAF's legacy. We've no identity, we're just another club........

did not see where you got the first line. Team spirit is crtical no matter the quality of the players. Last season Champions prove that. Money is a very huge factor. You can build entire teams on it.

In the end it is of course about the coaching involved. He is stating the obvious there.

Only SAF can make his legacy work. In the real world, we'd be fighting relegation if we followed his transfer policy.

Juventuz is a mess right now, they're going to sign Verratti apparently...

I doubt they are in a mess to be fair. They've already signed Pjanic early in the Summer, his stats from Serie A last season are comparable to Pogba if not slightly better. He's still young, 2 and a bit years oldervthsn Pogba but is also an excellent player.

This is why we post about football on the internet and these people running football clubs are millionaires from their work in the industry.

Lol

We've always spent money. You think Keane, Rio, Rooney, Veron, ADM were bargain buys?

Oh, give over. Did SAF never sign players for lots of money?
To be fair, out of our top 10 most expensive signings 3 were bought by Ferguson. And one of those was 15 years ago. The other 7 have been since 2013.

Although I do agree with you in principle.

Yeah, because SAF didn't throw money at Ferdinand, Rooney, Ronaldo, Anderson, Phil Jones, Smalling, etc. Stop pretending SAF was some pure-football manager who only used academy players or something. He's a great manager, but the absolute level of bullshit I see people viewing him with is Liverpool levels of delusion.

I wonder how much of that has to do with the inflation in the transfer market?

Is he worth 100 million pounds ? Of course he isn't. Can we afford it? Yes. Is he one of the most sought after, highly rated and talented footballers on the planet? Yes. The deal makes sense. What doesn't is that we're able to pull it off in our current position (football wise). Hopefully he'll be a vital cog in the wheel that takes us back towards the top.

lol. He's talking about the forum which is in a full blown meltdown right now.

someone mentioned Keane.

How do you think Pogba compares to Keane....if that is even an appropriate comparison.

Appears nothing like him on the field. Apples and oranges. However, interms of the impact I hope he has the impact of same magnitude as Keano

So I'm in America now what's happened guys?

Been on a 12 hour flight so can someone update me please.

Point taken. I grew up with Sir Alex as United manager, it's all I'd ever known, and I absolutely idolise the man; he's a legend in every sense of the word. I just hate it when people throw around 'SAF's legacy' when they disagree with something the club is doing.

The money spent over the last 3 years is nothing like the Fergie years

He spent big quite on certain players but was regularly outspent by premier league rivals

SAF is partly to blame as he left the squad in an absolute mess. The midfield in particular was criminally neglected. Still a legend though!!!

It's a done deal.

Might be announced by Juventus tomorrow imo.

Norwood has followed Pogba on Twitter. Di Marzio has said the deal should be finalized soon.

Then the Adidas ad as well.

I think he would have worked out if we had Mou. Man just think of the team we would have had now if we still had ADM.

Considering that Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Di Maria are all strong defensively I think it would be very well balanced. Mkhitaryan and Di Maria could easily switch positions too

I live in Toronto and in last couple of years I don't remember us signing any player while I was alseep. Always feel like it's during our afternoon/evening time.

It's 7pm here so I am going to just assume that this will go through tomorrow morning.

Enough of refreshing this page.

I guess we can expect an official announcement tomorrow. Oh man, it's going to be glorious.

I got that from this, "You can’t say at the end, 'Only 11 best players will play together and let’s see what happens.'" He's basically just defending his group of players from being out of it. And he's not saying that United won't have team spirit. He's just saying that it's a factor and because it's a factor in football, the more expensive team won't automatically win.

Maybe he could have worded it better, but english isn't his first language. Or perhaps I'm wrong, but that's how I took it after reading all of his quotes.

Some of that is taken into account of course, but the sheer numbers spent wouldnt have happened under Ferguson. He had the famous "no value in the market" speech, which he surely had the copyright on judging by the amount of times he said it. And luckily for us, Alex Ferguson was so great at the art of managing a group of players, he could turn chicken shit into a chicken sarnie, so we could more than get by with what we had.

I'm certainly not complaining, mind you. The facts are, if any other sports franchise brought in the amount of money we do from sponsorships and licensing, they'd be spending much more that we currently. The idea that we've missed out on so many players is unreal. The fact we currently play in the same league as a side who bought David Silva and Sergio Aguero is shocking to me. You simply dont let the likes of those go to rival clubs. We've consistantly been in the top bracket (and a lot of times on top) of the list of biggest and most profitable sports teams in the world. We should be paying £100 million for players.

What a mess of a squad that actually won a title. It's not his fault the Glazers were only opening their pockets once we were failing.
