Some of our players have less than 8 days of training and they will probably start on Sunday.

Agree. People seem to also forget how quick he is with the ball at his feet, for a midfielder. He thrives in counter-attacks and that's where people will see the best of him, imo.

That's true, on the other hand despite his impressive build sometimes he acts like a wimp compared to Keane and Vieira. Pogba isn't always willing to put his body on the line and he can be thrown to the ground quite easily but he has the merit of not staying on the ground.

In our squad of 25 players for the Premier League, only 17 are allowed to be not homegrown, so it would have been useful to have Pogba be homegrown as well.

I don't think we're currently in any danger of a problem on that front, but it's nice to avoid.

Every player we have that counts as home grown (according the rules of the PL, that all the PL clubs agreed to when the rule was set up) is a good thing in that it gives us more flexibility when it comes to meeting the rules each season.

I remember when the rule was first announced, the clubs were given a years notice, plus they had all been involved in agreeing to the rule. There were a lot of people who thought clubs were going to have a difficult time complying with the rules, I think Arsenal was a popular target at the time. End of the day, I don't think there have been many issues with clubs meeting the rule.

Yeah, agreed. But as you said we are long way off from reaching the point where it matters in our transfer business, as opposed to the situation at City.

Ronaldo is also still on vacation so it is not excessive. His vacation planning would have been aligned to the euros and Juve start of the season, not to a possible transfer to us. He has had a very long season, he will have a very long season ahead of him, he needs a decent break to relax and recharge his battery.

We will have more use of Pogba if he is fully rested both physically and mentally than one that is rushed in the team. Especially in England, with 2 cup competitions, next to the league and the EL and no winter break it will be a very long and demanding season. He should be fully rested before starting it.

Nobody else think it's weird that despite all the speculation there still hasn't been anything official?

I did get the holiday factor, but surely with that ending tomorrow, you would have thought we would be saying something.

I haven't really paid attention to reports lately - how much are we supposedly paying to Juventus and to Raiola now?

way too much, that is all should know but it is ok because we have plenty and are earning it faster than we can spend it, so it is all good.

I love the way many posters in here loosely interpret clear rules and guidelines re 'home-grown' status in whatever way they please.

I wonder what they're like when they get caught doing 85mph on the motorway - "Well, the speed limit is an arbitrary rule, isn't it?
What does 'speed' really mean anyway?"

Apparently this contract is more complex than the TPP trade agreement, so its natural that it will take time to complete. Have some patience.

Theymight aswell call the club Dithering United. It always takes like forever till we get some official communication. Look at Zlatan, Dortmund had confirmed it, Zlatan had confirmed it, the whole world know already a long time ago but still took the club a long time untill they made it official. I don't know what it up with that but the speed with which we announce things has been bothering me for years.

The biggest clue will be to see if Pogba joins Juve on their pre season or not. If he doesn't he is 100% coming.

It's the transfer forum, so surely we should talk about any news relating to the transfer - this homegrown stuff is irrelevant as he isn't a Utd player yet.

When he is fine.
It's not up to you to decide what we can talk about you maniac.

It doesn't matter anyway, United should be okay in terms of homegrown players (I think it's more noticeable in Europe, which isn't the priority right now.)

I only respond to the metric system, so that rule is definitely arbitrary and non-binding.

BOSS ON SUMMER SIGNINGS
"We got a young central defender that needs time to be a top one, but he has top potential and we believe a lot in him. We brought Micki here, a player that we know the quality he has. We got a super striker [in Zlatan] and we are going to get a very good midfield player, so I am happy with the balance of my squad, I’m happy with the effort that the club has, and is still putting in for us."

'48 hours' again...but this time from the boss. I'll take it!

It's pretty much confirmed then. We're signing Paul fecking Pogba. My only worry is who will partner him, nobody aside from a 35 year old Carrick is standing out. I personally think we should cut Herrera loose and bring in someone else.

With Schweinsteiger apparently on his way out, why would you cut Herrera loose as well. What do you know about our current midfielders that Mourinho doesn't ?

Mourinho's comments should put any remaining doubts to rest. Expect this to be wrapped up by Monday.

He's flattered to deceive so far but was very good against Everton and seems to be part of Mourinho's plans.

"You are right I don't like to speak about other clubs," he added. "I don't like to speak about players from other clubs, other managers like to do that, they like to speak about my club and my players, I'm very pragmatic on this.

"The only thing that matters for me is what's happening in my house, not my neighbours's. Pogba is a Juventus player and until officially he isn't, we stay like this."

So Mourinho has all but confirmed Pogba will sign for us, i expect this will be announced on Monday.

We are going to sign a very good midfielder, if he doesn't sign Pogba now then surely Mourinho is the king of trolling. Imagine we will now end up signing Matuidi or Lassana Diarra

Of all the various opinions about the "quality" or whatever of a thread on an internet forum that get thrown around, requests for locks are always the ones that confuse me most. You can just ignore it, you know.
No, because i actually want to know when something happens. I see 50 new pages since i last checked and presume something may have happened. I then find 50 pages of attention seeking drivel with a sole purpose of making '1000 pages ' as if that is interesting or important.

The thread is to discuss the pogba transfer. That's been done ad infinitum, there is nothing more to discuss until something emerges. The mods can lock the thread and post when news occurrs.

Encouraging quotes. Monday then I take it?

I think monday or tuesday seems the safest bet.

These things usually don't get announced in the weekend do they ?

There would be no point in him going back to Turin to train individually or with the youth team if he's going to be sold.

I think Juventus will announce he is leaving before/on Sunday

Now the only surprise would be if the big signing is, for some reason, not Pogba... but at that point, that's no more an option, isn't it? Isn't it? :smirk:

Did he say 48 hours? I thought he said in the next few days which lines up with what he said before that we will sign the fourth player before the season starts.
The new bit is confirmation that it is a very good midfielder and his statement on Pogba is much more positive.
