Fantastic start in a potentially tricky game, we looked pretty good at times, but my overriding thought throughout was that we still have Pogba to come in... and holy sh*t I actually nailed the score prediction!

I really enjoyed that, we controlled the game and deserved the win!

Good performance. Wasn't a very interesting game for the most part but still infinitely more interesting to watch than the past 3 seasons.

Be interesting to see in future if, as planned, we start to dominate from midfield.

Wouldn't look forward to that with Fellaini and Herrera starting. Both are just squad players, in based on situation.

There is some potential with Schneriderlin, Pogba, and Mhitaryan, but it will require some adjustment from Mourinho. I just don't rate Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, or Rooney as first team regulars. Great squad players, but nothing more.

I'm excited to see how the midfield develops under Mourinho as the season progresses.

Good result but not happy with the performance. We didn't create enough, all our goals were either due to luck or individual skill but not due to great teamplay.

Defensively we looked solid, very happy with what Bailly provides as centreback but Bournemouth didn't put us under any pressure at all, ultimatley this isn't the sort of the game where the quality of the defence gets tested.

In terms of midfield play and creating good chances I wasn't happy. But this was also not a good line up. Rooney and Fellaini in the team, Herrera as deepest midfielder, Mata on the flank. Put Pogba, Carrick, Mkhitaryan and Rashford in that team and it would work much better.

All in all it was good enough for a first match of the season but we will have to get alot better.

Very good performance from the team today much better than last season and to think we have pogba to add to that midfield, i can't wait!

I was unimpressed with Rooney again and its becoming increasingly frustrating watching Mkhitaryan miss out to him. Why buy the most creative player in the Bundesliga then leave him on the bench?

Like many if i was being critical i would say we lacked pace but I feel that was due to Lingard missing on the right and we need to move the ball quicker from the off like we did second half. It would be nice to see

Martial----Mkhitaryan----Lingard

As the three behind Zlatan at some point this season but Friday is up next and a home debut for Pogba

Thought we looked rather pedestrian, but being able to nap 3 goals while underperforming is a fantastic sign.

Good three points. As several posters have pointed out, these are the matches you have to kill off to win titles. Not just the league, but being able to sub off core players to rest for other matches. It's refreshing to see the boys take care of business instead of getting bogged down versus a weaker side.

The quality of the squad and Bournemouth's stature hide the real effect of the short pre-season: poor use of shape. There are several players to bed in and a new way of going about things to learn. The team is a long, long way from having a command of how they're going to work that out on the pitch. Players kept their responsibilities well, but they didn't really make good use out of the those around them or position to help out offensively.

The wide men hardly ran on to anything. That needs to change to get this side into what it can be. Can you imagine flying, incisive play from the wide two with Ibrahimović playing flicks and through balls from Mata? It'd be murderous. Martial, Depay and Lingard would thrive in that style. I imagine Mkhitaryan would too, but I haven't seen him much.

Anyway, that fluidity going forward needs to come before they boys get too far into this season. The league is for the taking.

Very good performance, it wasn't flashy football but we hardly allowed Bournemouth to do anything in the game and took our chances well. It's good to be finally optimistic about season.

Mourinho said it well in his post match. When it was 2-0, 3-0, we were flying and were ready to push on more and see how many we can get. One mistake at the back though, they score and in the premier league, that's when it's time to change mentalities to just see out the game and play it smartly. It's what we did and I'm sure we'll see it often. Goals can change games so it's important to manage every situation properly.

Enjoyed that, Zlatan, Bailly and Blind were good.

Despite the goal, that was well taken, I thought Rooney was the poorest player on the pitch again and big shout out to Afro, played well today and it hurts to say that as I'm one of his biggest critics but a positive solid game that felt like we were in control from start to finish.

The last three years has really lowered our expectations, we were not great today! That said we got what we went for - 3 points good result and that's really all that matters at this point. In future Rooney must go Mata must go Fellaini must go Herrera must go Martial must improve (that attempted shot!!??). Lots and lots of work to do. Tragic the state of the team. Can be traced back to Fergies last few years. But I'm happier watching us now than I have been for a long time. LVG killed the game for me lost all joy in it. Much more positive. Very optimistic. Moving in the right direction but Jose has a LOT of work to do. And I think he will do it.

Very true

We were poor today but got the points and that is what matters the most.

We need a DM and and experienced CB cover.

Fabinho and Fonte and we have a great squad.

Poor is an exaggeration.

We were a 7/10 imo.
Yep.

Our first away game under van Gaal last season was a 1-0 victory against a hopeless Villa side who went on to have one of the worst ever prem seasons. That was a 'poor' performance and things didn't improve for the rest of the season.

More like a 5 or 6 at most

We created feck all against a very poor team. We did score 3 goals however:
  • 1 from a total feck up of Francis the Bournemouth CB that gave Mata a tap in
  • 1 from a total fluke, missed shot of Martial just finds its way to Rooney's head
  • 1 from individual piece of class from Ibra that shoots from 30 yards and goes in the net, most decent goalkeepers should have stopped it by the way
Our defence was solid but Bournemouth didn't really test them very much, 1 good attacking play however and they scored

It is 3 points but a great performance it was not. However under LVG or Moyes I'am certain we would have found a way to lose a shite game like this so that must be improvement.

I don't care if we play shite like this for the rest of the season and get 3 points I will be happy. But I die sooner than call this football a good performance, it was not in anyway.

Did you miss the second half? We created lots of chances after the break, Rooney missed 3 chances alone.

It wasn't by all means us firing on all cylinders but i would give it a solid 7/10 considering we had no Smalling, Pogba and Rooney took Mkhitaryan spot, he would of added much more IMO. Last season we lost this fixture so it's an improvement no need to be overly negative.

I was at a meal but they had the game on the TV so basically only saw the goals but they were decent goals and we had a few chances. That alone is a huge improvement over the past 3 seasons.

Jose has plans from Fellaini, and he said in his post-match interview that he is a very good player despite not being loved by some "reds" (or something like that).

And to be fair, he was one of the best on the pitch today.

Just seen the post interview with Wayne and Zlatan. Felt a little sorry for Wazza!

Very happy with the result and pretty much all of the performances. For the first game of the season and with the addition of a few new faces, that's about as much as I could ask for. Our away fans were fantastic as usual even if Sky "placed" the mics there :wenger:

Good solid performance overall. First half was a bit rank until Matas goal. 2nd half was much better. We created more and looked more threatning. Once Bournemouth scored it was a case of holding out at 3-1 which was fine besides the chaos in injury time.

The only real negatives were Martial looked a little off form and Rooney was average at best, things slowed down an awful lot once he got involved at times.

Herrera while good going forward worries me if he is playing in that role for the rest of the season, I think he isn't nasty enough and too lightweight when things are physical.

Bailly was really impressive again, very composed and controlled.

Martial looked like his old self in the second half. Still getting rid of the rust. Nothing to fear thankfully.

It was a good insight that comment from mourinho, with LVG I felt if we went two up we went straight to control. Under Mourinho I think we will keep going for goals until they score and that swings the momentum of the game. I don't think we would sit on a two goal lead like last season and just try to hold on to the ball.

Or the twenty years before heightened our expectations too much. The last three years are much more relevant at looking at for judging current performances against than thinking back to prime fergie days. It makes no sense to compare our games to something so long ago.

That second goal was a good team move, if martial puts it in its a good team goal. As it was he scuffs and Rooney puts in, showing we had people in the right positions. Also if you watch the first and second goals again if the keeper manages to make a save Ibra has got himself free in the box ready to pounce.

We had 7 shots on target, that is a high amount. We could have scored more but we went defensive after they scored to make sure of the three points.

We completely controlled the game after a bad half an hour. Creating lots of chances and our team is still learning each others games.

I don't know what you are looking for in a performance but that was a good performance, on another day Rooney converts his one on one and we have four goals away from home against a team who can play.

I'am looking for our team creating good chances from field play. Haven't seen enough fo those despite playing poor opposition. So I won't classify this as a good performance. I classify this as playing poor but still getting a win. For now I'll happily take it.

None of our goals are from set pieces though? they are all open play and we created other good chances, two which more times than not would be a goal more often than not. I'm not saying it was an incredible performance but if that is your definition of poor I think you should only watch Barcelona or real games because nobody else is going to offer you significantly better than that standard on a regular basis.

Has anyone noticed Anthony Martials brilliant reaction to the Zlatan goal as it happened? That instant fist clench. Watched it three times on repeat.

From an attacking perspective City and Liverpool played much better than we did in this first matchday. In terms of dominating the opposition and having real chances those were quality performances and against much better opposition aswell.

But as I said, we got 3 points so I'am happy.

If Liverpool finish above us this season I will eat my jeans. Just not happening.

Did you watch city or just guessing? because I watched city and that is absolutely nonsense. They created less chances and needed a penalty and an own goal to beat a david moyes managed sunderland.

Liverpool yes, they will be great all season, absolutely no balance to the team but definitely good games to watch, they have a lot of attacking players and a manager who will just let them go for it.

Good 3 points too, last season i'd be interested to see how many away we picked up but we were poor.

Sunderland are 'much better' than Bournemouth?

True, guess he is allowed an off game every now and then. At least he doesnt need to carry the whole attack of the team now anymore.
