Johnny Evans WBA player of the season

Would be a good move for him, he is obviously better than WBA, it was always terrible decision to sell him when we were short on defenders. He has at least one season in his career better than any of our dedenders' best season, and probably at least 3 seasons better than any of Rojo's - his replacement which we payed 2 or 3 times more than we sold Evans for. Fecking van Gaal.

He was a good servant for us. Better than Jones for me.

It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see Academy products playing for rival clubs. So although he would be a decent signing for Arsenal, it just wouldn't look right to me.

To be fair it was us who decided he was surplus to requirements and sold him. Had he left us as one of our best defenders then yeah I would have been pretty bitter.

Wish him all the best, but Arsenal all the failure :D

His overall United career was not that bad really. And he's infinitely better than that tragedy of a player Rojo has and will ever be. But then there was a time on here when people actually thought Rojo was worth something based on a block of posts from some Portugese member, so who knows,

Don't think he'll move to Arsenal. Anyhow, I would have kept over Jones and Rojo for sure.

Not sure why everyone is getting on Rojo's back. He's been injured and shifted out at LB most of the time. It's a bit harsh to criticise him so much when he hasn't even got a consistent run of games at CB.

Plus Rojo is a 2x Copa America and World Cup finalist. If you're good enough for Argentina's starting 11, surely you're good enough for United's.

He's been nowhere near as bad as some peope have been making out.

Wow...you know it's a slow one when this is the hottest fecking topic on a sunday night :boring:

Evans is perfect for Arsenal. Highly talented but mentally weak, and a perma-crock.

Van Gaal made a few inspired pieces of business like that.

Hernandez out = £7m ~ Falcao in (loan) = £6m
Nani out = £4m ~ Depay in = £25m
Rafael out = £2m ~ Darmian in = £12.5m
Evans out = £6m ~ Rojo in = £16m (plus £5m Nani wages during his loan to secure the deal)

Total in £19m ~ Total out £64.5m

Would be pleased if he moved to Arsenal as a) it would be a good move for a former player of ours and b) he isn't really good enough for a side aspiring to win titles anyway, so CB would remain a weak spot for them.

It will be a good move for him, though I will not be glad. But he deserves a better club. I cannot remember how much abuse, humiliation he had received from people in CAF and the audience. I am glad he is doing well now.

He was a decent squad player for us I dont know why he gets so much hate on here. Id have him in my squad ahead of Rojo anyday.
Rojo was better than him that season, by a comfortable margin. As was Jones. Evans has only himself to blame for getting sold.

Since then he played good for a shit team, and Rojo played shit as a left back. I want Rojo out as everyone else, but he kept his place last season in merit, and any manager would have kept him instead of Evans.

Would be a good signing for Arsenal despite their support's outrage. Again a player we sold for less than £10m who will move for double the price in 12 months.

Didn't think he was United quality and was glad to see him go....but little did I know we were going to get the likes of Rojo instead!

Arsenalmania not happy. But he's a definite upgrade on Mertesaker and Gabriel.

Another causality from LVGs reign - Hernandez , Nani , ADM, Evans - don't even get me started on that !

Evans is good enough for Everton Stoke level. He isn't upto arsenal level. His injury record plus Arsenal injury history makes it imminent he will get injured during his medical

Hope he joins Arsenal. He's never handled the biggest strikers particularly well so Zlatan could bully him.

Hope we put a sell-on clause in there, knowing us we didn't though.

I don't recall him struggling with many players when he was on form, which it seems he is back to. Comfortably handled Drogba more than once.

He never didn't have the talent to be a top defender, he just lost all his confidence and form with Utd. The move to WBA has been the making of him.

Pretty sure he slotted in a Vidic's replacement at San Siro and dealt with Ibra well. Maureen's pre-match talk was all about claiming Ibra as the best player in the world ahead of our Ronaldo. Unless my memory's deceiving me .. :nervous:

Your memory is fine. Ibra didn't get a sniff at goal in that match at the San Siro.

If Arsenal sign Evans, it will be a great signing for them so I hope they won't and I bet you, a lot of arsenal fans will be moaning if they get him before he even play because we sold him and they think he's crap (from Welbeck's experience). He's way better than any of their centre back apart from Kosc. Underrated when he can stay fit. A typical of ball playing centre back. Can defend, no weak foot, can pass the ball. I'll take him back all day to replace Rojo. If he's not an injury prone, he would have develop into top class defender in the league.

Arsenal shouldn't complain about this signing if it happens.

When fit, he's on a par with Koscielny and would defintely improve their team straight away.

I still think the three at the back with LVG almost ruined him - but he's still a quality defender that can contribute to a CL-chasing team.

Would rather Arsenal sign him than buy a potential world class CB in Gimenez.
Arsenal mania refuse to open a discussion on him. That's how much they don't want him but hes better than most of their CBs.

I'd be amazed if we did - the (considerable) profit made on this one will be all WBA's I think.

Injuries were always his problem; in that regard he's joining the wrong club, but if he can put together a run of games then Arsenal will have strengthened themselves quite a bit by signing him.

Hope it doesn't happen.

With Arsenal's and Evans' injury records I can imagine this move not working out. The club is cursed so Evans should keep his distance.

If the inevitable doesn't happen though and he stays fit, he'd be a good signing for them.

If Evans goes to Arsenal he'll be injured non-stop. Apart from the financial aspect, I think he'd be better staying at West Brom tbh. Good luck to him anyway, had a couple of very good seasons for us that people seem to forget about.

Solid emergency buy but not much more than that. They need better quality than Evans.

I won't pretend I've watch loads of Evans or the Valencia lad but West Brom fans rave over Evans:

Here's 6 different posters:

Seeing how the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool defend makes you wonder how they scout players as Evans must be as good as anything in the EPL at present and following on from a brilliant Euros. Happy for him to stay under the radar mind !

Made me laugh today watching Arsenals defence get destroyed and yet their fans were sneering towards Evans.

It's not often I think a player is too good for us, but this guy is quality.

Where does Jonny rank in terms of centre backs at the club? Probably the best we've had during the modern Premier League era for me, where does he rank all time? We've not done the "All time Albion XI" thread for a wile but I would certainly have him in there alongside either Robertson or Wile now. Come to think about it, I might have GMac and Evans as my all time CH pairing.

Chuffed we have him but he's too good for us - should be at a top four club really. We should look to try and build the side around him for the rest of his career.

Seen some great centre halfs for Albion but Evans has to be near the top not only a great centre half or full back but also a great footballer what a snip. Never too good for us top 6 dont know what they missed.

Feck me. Didn't think he was rated that highly.
