He was linked a few times with Spurs, Newcastle and perhaps even Arsenal/Chelsea at some odd times during his Everton tenure. I sincerely doubt any of those clubs (maybe Newcastle) ever approached him.
Bemusing. In one of his recent press conferences (I think it was the City one) he was saying they weren't a team that belongs in relegation battles and he wanted to change that. One week later and it's almost a complete 180 - I really don't understand how anyone can succeed in football management with that kind of mentality.
Did he say Sunderland should aspire to match Boro's level in the post-match press conference?
Terrible manager. Bereft of tactical ideas and man-managing skills. To think that he was "the chosen one" is just beyond me. I wonder what will be his line of excuse when he will eventually get the sack. "I thought that Sunderland would respect the contract they have given me" or maybe "I wanted to sign Bale, Fabregas, and Ronaldo when I was appointed the manager at Sunderland"

Also important to note that yet again Moyes is only comfortable bringing in players from his old clubs. Too weak-willed to invest in players he hasn't seen before.
That squad was always going to need heavy investment, but shoring up the defence with two United youngsters rather than bringing in some experience was a huge error in a club that's favorites for relegation season after season.

His next few prem games are Southampton away, Everton home then Spurs away. Expect a 0 point return out of those 3 fixtures. Won't be surprised if he's sacked by xmas and that will be the end of his managerial career at the 'top' level as no prem club will go near him.
Interesting point. Makes me wonder if he sort of hit it lucky at Everton in that he was able to find numerous decent players who sort of stuck around for a long time; players like Cahill, Osman, Howard etc who weren't spectacular enough to be bought by anyone else but were nevertheless consistent and decent.

Moyes isn't a man most players would play for, a club like Sunderland is a good fit. One that attempts to punch above their weight.
When he was at United he said "I want 50 crosses this game" or some ridiculous figure, hes a man who wants arbritrary numbers rather than focusing on the right pass like Pep or Mourinho. Moyes will gladly hand over the ball 50 times per game, not have a plan b, want to do it all himself and not trust most staff and fail to scout good players, which is why he will never be a top manager.
I think his mentality shows, saying about aspirations of being like city. Big managers would believe they are not only sat at the table but are sat at the head of the table. Moyes will always blame others than take responsibilty.

It is a wonder this man keeps getting a job when he can hardly manage to talk the right things in press conference. Imagine going to training after your manager has already thrown in the towel.
Had this discussion with my dad last night. I said any player with a hint of ambition will be soul destroyed by hearing the manager say he expects a relegation scrap while any player with little ambition is going to check out mentally and drop a level or two knowing the standard is "don't get relegated".
How difficult is it really to put a bit of faith in the squad and build some confidence and good feeling by telling them he thinks they could pinch a Europa League spot?

Throwing in the towel after 2 games is really embarrassing. He has lost every confident in himself after his Old Trafford stint. Probably, he wants to set a low expectation so that it is easier to achieve.
I think its time for us to sell him Romero, Rojo and Jones. They will be a great addition to Mcnair, Love and OShea

Moyes has remarkable ability.....to depress the shit out of anything. If he fails at Sunderland and gets sacked, that might be curtains for him as a PL manager in future.
Agree. Presumably all the time he had off recently he didn't invest in scouting players he might look to bring in should he be lucky enough to get a job.

Football must be such a closed shop. Foot in the door & you can make a lucrative career out of being terrible. He's earned more in the last 3 years for being sacked than he would have earned had he been good. Unbelievable.

The way he celebrated Sunderland scoring the goal yesterday I found surprising as he was acting like they had went infront. I think Sunderland have enough to avoid relegation, but at the same time I wouldn't be shocked if they are down scrapping come May.
