Feels like the tournament for England might just be hijacked by this.

Hope they fail to qualify.
He will still have a year left on his deal at United then, at 33. Giving him that 5.5-year deal at 28 was Moyes' worst decision, amazingly.it's the right decision, it'll help prolong his career in China not having to travel so much.
He retired from club football years ago
Moyes gets too much credit for that. The Glazers love Wayne as a marketing tool and I'm sure were more than happy Wayne got his contract. Now if Fergie had stayed on as said Wayne must go, now that would have been interesting. He will still have a year left on his deal at United then, at 33. Christ. How is it time continues to go so ridiculously fast the older I get yet his contract feels like it's taking forever? He will still have a year left on his deal at United then, at 33. Giving him that 5.5-year deal at 28 was Moyes' worst decision, amazingly.
Username must be hurting nowadays?
Will Wayne even be worth his place in 2018? He barely is now.
Alan Shearer: ‘Rooney should retire from England for Man United career’
http://www.football365.com/news/rooney-should-retire-from-england-for-man-united-career
plus assumption he'll be starting for club in 2 years timeI am not sure I saw many players having that kind of relationship and treatment with their national team as Rooney has with England. And not like their managers are against it, every time I saw English managers talking about him it looked like they see him as their best player by mile who is actually part of the staff and not just the team. Saying he'll retire from his national team two years from now is actually very selfish behaviour, it's like he doesn't have to care about being picked to play at the World Cup, he just knows he will, despite him being 33 at that time and hardly ever putting decent performances at tournaments even during his peak years.
That was my thought too.
The decline in his game over the last 3 years has been sharp. I dread to think what he will be like in 2018. Not to mention the fact he's not going to be practicing his midfield role at club level, I can't imagine a nearly 33 year old Rooney being the best #10 England will have on offer.
I also don't think he will be anywhere near first choice for United by then.
Announcing his retirement two years ahead just seems presumptious and arrogant to me. By all means have personal targets in mind but this stinks of a player that believes a starting spot will be his as long as he wants it.
To be fair you can hardly blame him. The FA and United are always kissing his arse (only God knows why), so that's why he feels confident to do whatever he wants. Only injury will stop him from playing in the next World Cup.I am not sure I saw many players having that kind of relationship and treatment with their national team as Rooney has with England. Yep he's pretty wily, along with his agent. But it genuinely puzzles me how people in such high positions fall for this. Maybe he's good with flatteryI don't blame him, he is smarter than people give him credit for, he definitely knows how to use the situation.

Maybe he's good with flatteryNotice that a lot of the corporate honchos in my firm and others that visit are mostly susceptible to a bit of sucking up. Rooney definitely knows how to play the game

But it's not working is it? That's why the whole thing puzzles me. The comments under articles from Non-United fans and even some United fans is mostly negative. If you visit other United forums, there are ongoing discussions just like here on the Caf - and for the most part he doesn't seem to have a lot of United fans on his side.Majority of it it's down to his pals on TV and "respectable" journos who are protecting him whenever they can, he probably pays them a lot so they'll write whatever suits him, and you know how influential the media can be.
At least 4 years too late
It's always bothered me how much more Rooney seems to care about playing for England than he does for United
All of those pointless friendlies and qualifiers he just had to play in, at the expense of his fitness and longevity
