Post-match discussion

Watching Crystal Palace's set pieces in the game on now is making me weep.

Proper dangerous balls into dangerous positions. With our height we'd score every ball with some of these.

How can none of our players take a dead ball?

If someone has the nads to drop Rooney it's this manager. Wayne's looking like a pub player now.

I'm confidently predicting he's benched for Leicester.

Slightly worrying that we're crying out for an ageing Carrick.

Carrick is a good shout. Fellaini and Pogba aren't compatible in CM. We need someone to get on the ball and dictate play. Blind would be my pick alongside Pogba.

Notice Rooney wasn't wearing the captain's armband today?

Taking the piss surely. That would have catastrophic financial consequences that would take us years to recover from.

Cheers

Not much. Said we can't control refereeing mistakes (it was a foul on Martial) or luck (good save from Gomes from Ibra's header), but that we can control collective and individual mistakes. Bad errors for all of their goals; particularly mentioned we should have been pressing their wingbacks when they had the ball, and tracking their midfield runners from deep.

On a side note, Im slightly worried that Pogba isnt looking worth his fee at the moment.

He looks like a player from our youth setup who has impressed and been promoted into the first team and is currently learning how to play at this newer/higher level.
He certainly doesn't look like a player worth £30M, let alone £89M.

That performance will spell the end for Rooney. He has played some stinkers over recent years but today was the worst performance he has ever produced for our club. He has failed to make the transition from striker to midfielder, simple as that.

So, yeah, drop Rooney and allow our £100 million superstar to play his favoured role at the top of a midfield 3, with Herrera and Fellaini behind him. Seems like an only logical decision at this point, surely Jose can see this needs to be done.

Boot Fellaini's arse down Trafford Road. He is an embarrassment. If Rooney is dropped, play Pogba behind Zlatan and choose from Herrera, Carrick and Schneiderlin to play behind him.

I'm a complete masochist. I'm getting more and more depressed reading this and can't stop.

Fellaini played good or decent at least today and you want Schneiderlin to play who has been crap from the first day at United?

We need to be looking at a midfield 3 if we are going to play Pogba. NO ONE will be good with Pogba unless we play a midfield 3, he leaves them far too vunerable.

And we have stop playing Pogba and Rooney, both of them should not be able to "express themselves" as it just has us looking like a chicken with our heads cut off.

Honeymoon period is over. Drop Rooney so we can play a 3 man midfield please. 4-3-3 for more than a game so players can get to know each other.

Also need for us to play like we want to win. Mourinho needs to get them fired up or its pointless no matter what formation/tactics we play.

I thought Fellaini was woeful yet again, doing his usual trick of wondering around and looking lost. He just isn't a deep lying midfielder, and I'd certainly be considering Schneiderlin in that role ahead of him.

The stats say otherwise.

So far today:

He was captain though, wasn't he...

We look lost and don't have any clue of what to do with or without the ball. Shit game and should just forget this game and move on to the next one.

The question is, if we play a midfield 3, where do we play Mkhitaryan?

His best games for Dortmund actually were from the right coming in, so it's not a problem playing him there. The problem seems to be that every player we buy of quality - Di Maria, Memphis, Schneiderlin, etc. - seems to turn crap and fall far short of expectations. I cant understand why this keeps happening. How we're still relying on the likes of Fellaini, Young and Carrick is baffling.

He was a rare player who was good today.

But things in that midfield should be changed though.

I don't know why Carrick is frozen out.

Worth remembering, against Feyeonord, he was dropped for a midfield of Schneiderlin, Herrera and Pogba (who many have called for) and we lost 1-0.

Not advocating him remaining by any means, just worth noting for those who think Rooney out equals problem solved. It's becoming apparent that may not be the case.

Dropping him for one match means nothing. Players coming in need games to gel and get up to speed. Schneiderlin has barely played with any consistency since he got here.

How is this not on Mourinho?

Did someone else decide to keep playing Rooney, and did someone else decide to give Carrick a new deal and proceed to prefer the immense technical and playmaking abilities of Fellaini in the holding role instead? Isn't it fecking common sense that if you play a destroyer at DM then your creative midfielder will always have to drop deep alongside him to provide composure and build-up play and so the gaps are always huge between midfield and attack? How can you only play two in midfield in such a situation?

Who's responsible for implementing a dominating style of play and drilling it into the players as quickly as possible?

Forget Guardiola and City if you want. Look at Tuchel and recall his early impact at Dortmund after the horror of Klopp's final season. An impact that is proving to be time-proof and sustainable.

But the manager who has managed in this country before and knows the league inside-out, needs time and patience to settle and get us going?

How can some of you fall for this bullshit? It's insulting to expect other fans to buy into it, really.

To say Rooney is not a midfielder then actually play him there was absolute madness. He is experimenting too much and it isn't his style at all.

This really bothered me. Carrick, Herrera, Scheiderlin are all available and we go with Rooney. No real surprise we lost just wondering when someone will wake up and actually play the best team, not litter our team sheet with names.

I'm a bit more worried that Mourinho seems to be blaming referee decisions, luck, and individual mistakes for these defeats rather than recognising that our performances in the last 2 matches have been very poor all-round and did not deserve any result.

Jose is picking the team to suit the 'names' not the formation. Today's result was the logical outcome of that.

The last time our double pivot looked secure was against Bournemouth. Pogba got run off for City's goals last week, he got run off for Watford's first two today. Why do we keep playing him in a role where he needs defensive awareness he ain't got?

Mou is not showing the intestinal fortitude to pick the team to play his tactics. To squeeze the superstars in he has compromised our team shape. It's laughable. Verging on yellow frankly.

If Rooney and Pogba can't play in the same team, fine, just pick one of them. Show some guts. Our back four is being left over exposed. We need a proper double pivot if we are gonna do anything. That means neither Pogba or Rooney as 8's, as happened today in the first half.

PS) officiating was again garbage.

Comparisons with Tuchel is strange. They had a system at Dortmund, working system and players who knew how to play it, Tuchel came and just did some changes, tweaks so to say.
Not that I'm excusing Mourinho but we're in disarray and have been for 3 years now. No quick fix I'm afraid.

What's your suggestion? To sack him?

Well if he says we made mistakes it's obvious he sees we've been very poor?

Missed the last 15 but by then we were on top and they looked knackered. Wth happened?

Gonna record the game to dvd, then set it on fire, and piss on it.
Shocking game!
How much did Kante go for?

Those lamenting Blind's omission must have already forgotten the derby.

We need players with character, but have too many pussies.

Rooney:mad:

I don't disagree.

And I think there are other midfield combinations to be tested, but it's easier said than done, particularly when the fixtures come thick and fast.

You could just as easily persist with Schneiderlin, Herrera and Pogba for the next 3 games, only for it not to work.

There's no easy answer. I honestly don't know what our best team is, on paper perhaps, but in reality?... I just don't know. And it doesn't look like Mourinho does either.

Well if he says we made mistakes it's obvious he sees we've been very poor?

I mean that the system all-round doesn't seem to be working. He's only mentioning mistakes from individuals when pretty much every player has failed to perform in the last 2 games.

There's not enough pace & workrate in the team to enable us to outpass fecking Watford. Our phyical players aren't even the full package of the physical. Fellaini is slow & a bit uncoordinated. Zlatan & Wazza are no help at all for that. That's 3 from 11, you can afford 1 maybe 2 max if you are a realy good team with a mean powerhouse of a defence. It's fecking basic, it's not rocket science.

Watford slaughtered us in competing for the ball.
