See where he's coming from, but at the end of the day, if you're injured you can't play. Hard to really comment on it without knowing too much about injury specifics.
Sir Alex would have drop kicked Shaw if his brother was tweeting that during his reign.
I might be in the minority but I'm very happy with him challenging the issues with players publicly. Some of them need a boot up the arse for how they've performed the past few years, it's giving the manager problems and it's upsetting the preparation of matches that we pay a lot of money to go and enjoy.
For example, if the player in question is Shaw then we want a main stay at LB and for someone to hold down the position just like Irwin and Evra, we want players fighting through pain to play for this club. We don't want players who will just lay down when they get a bit of a kick, we need stability and a consistent team to start building on today's result. We won't achieve such things if players are shying away from playing cause of a few bruises.
If he has to constantly say it in the press then so be it cause it needs to be drilled home to those players that the manager and us fans won't accept such poor mentalities.
See you're taking a pop at him but maybe, just maybe, this is exactly what this group of players has needed after being allowed to serve up shite for 3 years. It's about time we had a manager that held the players to high standards ffs.
You guys are so hive-minded and reactionary and this is the exact reason why Jose keeps throwing players under the bus every time the results go wrong. Did this at Real, did this at Chelsea and now he is repeating the same pattern.
I get it, results are going bad so we all need to grab our pitchforks and throw someone into the fire and he's obliging those fans by giving them your scapegoats.
What exactly does he gain by questioning the commitment of a player in the media? He's trying to deflect the blame off of himself when every other new manager has brought optimism and strong results to their clubs despite lesser transfer budgets than him and he is doing his best to deflect pressure and get the fans on his side. You don't see Conte or Pep calling out their players, hell Moreno shit himself nearly every minute he's been on the pitch, costing Liverpool all the points they dropped so far this season and Klopp has been nothing short of supportive of him.
We've had one of the greatest man managers of all time managing this club and even at his direst hour, he never ever threw his players out to media criticism. The closest we got was when Rooney was being an utterly unbelievable twat mongering for a contract extension. Yet you cannot identify a desperate manager when you see one.
The players are perfectly fine, they need to be managed for what they are. Otherwise, if its Shaw and Mkhitaryan today, who knows who's going to be next when the results falter and those players are not at the club anymore?
Yeah this.I am usually against openly criticising our players in the media, but considering they are using the press all the time and can't keep their mouth shut, I don't mind it this time. They need a dose of their own medicine. Spoilt children.
Hang on a second....
Are people here actually standing up for half arsed, not bothered playing, not interested players over the manager?
fecking hell...
I get that, but not sure we can say for certain that Shaw was being a pussy. I'm trying to look at this as more of an isolated incident.Don't think he is bothered about players who are actually injured. It's more that he feels that there is a stage where you can play, even though you might get aches and pains after. Some will not play unless they are completely pain free. You have to man up sometimes.
He needs to make it public so the fans can understand what his intention is.
Again read this forum when the team sheet cames out, peopls saying they were done with season and calling it the wotst United side in modern history.
Our players are too comfortable imo, I'd say he tried to accomplish this privately but Chelsea and Fenerbache happened where we just crumbled from an early goal so enough was enough.
Why overly protect the players when that's what Jose is trying to counteract?
Again look at Mikhitaryan, the rumours of Jose not wanting to sign him at all only came from Jose refusing to address the sutuation in public and now it's stuck.
He did say that. Basically said he was a bit soft. You either take it on board and toughen up or you go off in a sulk and play for a smaller club.Yeah this.
Remember Klopp also made a comment about Sturridge and referring to playing through pain... not in those exact words but something close to it. Haven't heard any moaning from Sturridge since then.
The cuddly approach hasn't worked I see no problem with this, I trust mou more than our current crop of players
And that is the problem we have with the attitude at United. Player power. If it's Shaw, I'd much rather keep him than Mourinho. I expect him to last more than 3 years in a best case scenario
Still protected the players though, even when shit, abuse and leaks were being thrown left right and centre at him. LVG's a decent man - too decent for these modern footballers. There has been no evidence of a cuddly approach having ever been applied. The previous regime was under LvG who was also known as 'Iron Tulip'.
He only said that after signing him. Since then Shaw worked hard to be put in the team despite fitness issues and during season season started off well before he broke his leg.LVG called out Shaw for being unfit / overweight before the injury so could be a fair assessment of his attitude my Jose.
No he does not because the fans can do one. As a fan, I gave him my trust and he can do his job peacefully behind closed door without turning the club into a telenovela.
He's played in 11 of our games this season, not including pre season so he's got enough games under his belt to be match fit. If he's not over his leg break mentally yet then that's not going to help anyone. How can we build a team when we rely on him but he's not feeling up to it? I accept he had a horrid injury and he's over it physically (which I'm really glad about) but I doubt he'll play regularly until he's over it mentally and that's not helping the team or himself. He's literally just come back from a broken leg. Just because he's physically healed doesn't mean he mentally is. Comments like this are only going to make things wayyyyyy worse.
That's what I think has happened and he's lost patience. They just keep moaning to the press. I'd have gone ballistic as well.Whats to say he hasn't been doing this behind closed doors and the soft fecks are just not listening and drip feeding the anti Mourinho reports.
He woke up today, thought feck the little shits and gone to town on em.
Mourinho is the main man at United and the players need to be aware of that. They cannot dictate if and when they play or try.
Under SAF we had this untouchable manager and the players knew that! Since he left the players have tried to share the power between them and started mutiny's and been cnuts.
Give Mourinho the full reigns and have the board say this publicly to let the players no that under no circumstances are they running the show.
I'd rather him not bring this drama out into the open. He did that at Chelsea and look how that ended. He needs to make it public so the fans can understand what his intention is.

Remember he was dropped for a bit until Bailly's injury. That resulted in Blind being removed to CB and Shaw being put back in the starting lineup, perhaps before he was physically ready. He's played in 11 of our games this season, not including pre season so he's got enough games under his belt to be match fit. Absolutley behind Jose here. About time some of the gutless has beens and never will bes get a dose of reality. Say what you like about the likes of fellaini, but he is always available when called on and gives 110%. More of a Utd player than some pansies at the club will ever be
What these players who are going behind his back don't seem to have realised is that while they could bitch and moan to the press before with Mourinho it is different, he has friends in the media too.This.
Thing is he isn't even on about those who went off to the press bitching and moaning. Not seen Shaw do that. Yes, his brother went on a rant on twitter but you can hardly control family. What these players who are going behind his back don't seem to have realised is that while they could bitch and moan to the press before with Mourinho it is different, he has friends in the media too.

Maybe he's not mentally ready to play yet, I though by this stage of the season he'd be an ever present. With him dipping in and out of the team isn't helping us, we need consistency in our defence to build off.Remember he was dropped for a bit until Bailly's injury. That resulted in Blind being removed to CB and Shaw being put back in the starting lineup, perhaps before he was physically ready.
