Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

Blind, Lingard and Smalling about 6 months ago. Weren't drunk at that stage but I didn't see what happened later, at the end of the night. They werent drinking water that's for sure. There wasn't a Sun source to handily confirm what time they went to bed either.

I've seen others over the years and I rarely go into town. It's not like the 80's anymore but players go out and they drink.
Those players aren't as ridiculously out of shape as Rooney is though. It's fine if Rooney wants to continue contributing to his own physical decline but he'll just have to accept that fans won't be happy with it and it's unlikely his manager will be for much longer.

Let me share this story, you're free to believe it or not. Many moons ago, Beckham and Gaz were at a bar in my country while on vacation. It was summer and Becks was drinking a pint of beer. Soon afterwards somebody else paid another beer for Becks. Gaz stepped in and told him not to drink it as they are only entitled for 1 beer a day. Becks laughed it off but Gaz made it quite clear that if he drinks that beer he would personally report him to SAF. At that point Becks left the beer at the bar and they both walked out of there.I wasn't there but I happen to know the bartender who was working there and the owner of the bar.

That's why I find it hilarious that he took that stand. Now either the level of complacency has reach ridiculous levels in the past few years or else Gaz is being an A class hypocrite.
Bet next time they went out, Beckham ordered a yard of ale. Was it Schmeikel or Stam who called Neville a busy cnut? Seriously, what a monumental toad he was, his defence of Rooney this week obvious subconcious retrospective guilt activating itself. Almost feeling a tinge of ludicrous sorrow for Rooney after all this crap.

Bottom line is I've had problems with Rooney as our captain since his clock was cleaned with one punch by Phil Bardsley, with gloves and head protection. Herrera should be our next captain. Ferguson put the writing on the wall in big fecking letters on the day of his last game at OT and the club allowed the new guy to elevate him to a position he should never be in.
Having said that I would like him to break that record asap as I do think he deserves that recognition. He has sacrificed and given what he can to this club. Even the first transfer request due to the quality the club was buying was correct in my opinion, using his profile to force the club to improve and fill his pockets should not be a blemish on his United career.
The problem with Wayne Rooney is he has ceased to be a competent footballer for a long time now. This club is now in a position where we cannot accommodate highly paid players that do what Rooney did with that through ball in the first half against Fernabache. He did hit a sweet one in the second but that's is one out of thirty games he would actually hit a shot like that. I think Jose has been letting him go gently and that is the right way to do it. I expect Rooney, Young and Smalling to be sold this summer which is fine by me.
The club has changed dramatically over the last few years and those three players are just as culpable as Rio, Vidic and Carrick for not carrying over SAF's match mentality to different coaches. They wilted after that man left and done nothing to correct the situation only moan or surrendered. Moyes was rediculous and Van Gaal was a necessary medicine but that is not an excuse to put in those shocking performances for Manchester United.
Some of the class of 92 should be ashamed of themselves also as some of the most scathing criticism came from media man Scholes, the delusional support of Moyes because of family ties came from Gary Neville and the man who sat on the side and waited for the keys to the club while doing nothing to warrant it was Ryan Giggs. I still love and respect these guys for what they have given but they really went off the reservation the last few years and all of them would have Rooney play for us until he decides when to pack it in and most likely they would have him as manager as he knows the club.
We need a break from the recent past with all our energy focused on the future and Rooney represents the past.

Then we shouldn't be that surprised of our results considering the lack of discipline our team seem to have

Gary Neville is a class A hypocrite. as always regarding Rooney.

Him and Philip both. They were prattling on about how unwise it was for non league footballers to be drinking a few days before a game in their documentary, but are now defending the England and Man Utd captain for doing something similar.

Hypocrites.

Parker: Start Rooney up front
Paul Parker believes it should be Rooney to replace Zlatan up front against Arsenal.

He wrote in his EuroSport column:

“With Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended, I think Rooney has to start up front against Arsenal on Saturday.

“Mourinho isn’t bothered about his centre-forward getting in behind all the time so it doesn’t matter so much that Rooney lacks the dynamism of old.

“That’s the position in which he became a Manchester United great and now people will want to see if he can still cut it.

“If he scores against Arsenal, no one is going to be remotely bothered if he gatecrashed a wedding.”
Maybe we should build a bar in the penalty area at least it will make sure Wayne stays in one place.

Really happy to hear that he has fully recovered from that knee injury that kept him out of the Spain match on Tuesday. Mourinho said that "things that happen with the national team, happen with the national team" and that Rooney's available for selection.

I knew that suspensions on international duty are not carried on to club football but I'm delighted to know that injuries from the national team do not apply to United matches.

Complete with a granny shagging area!

Stuff them and Scholes say about Ropney is embarrassing.

He should be feathered and tarred

And given a contract extension.

England footballers are generally very professional. Their shortcomings are not to do with lifestyle. You don't make it at a top club if you're not an elite athlete. Too many players to take your place. Look at Lallana, Kane and Henderson - extremely fit footballers who are squeezing every bit of talent out of themselves. Rooney may well be an exception rather than the rule.

I don´t doubt that, but there is a reason teams are perceived to be at a disadvantage, when they are a man down. And the captain is supposed to be a plus on the field, not sweating out his latest binge drinking.

Is there evidence that Rooney is drinking heavily on a regular occasion? Genuine question.

Nah, don't think so. Never seen any reports suggesting that.
Hard to say. This appears to be the first time the press have gone to town on him recently, also bringing up the binge during the international break last November. Posters on here seem to have lots of pretty good information that he has a reputation for this.

It's known Rooney doesn't spit in the glas but that's a far cry from drinking heavily. I don't know though, maybe he does have an issue but that's guesswork at this moment.

Didnt he drink a pint or two at OT when he was injured whilst United were playing?

He is 30 years old, doesn't have a game for a week so gets pissed. He didn't drive, he didn't get into a fight aso aso. What the feck is the problem? Old heroes like Robbo Whiteside and McGrath used to be pissed every day. Robbo was injured quite often, why didn't Fergie tell him to sod off. I don't think Rooney should be in our starting 11 when everyones fit and available but he should certainly be in the squad. Couldn't care less what he does on a Sat night out with no game coming up in the next few days.

Those reasons are why SAF got rid of McGrath and Robbo, as he would not allow the culture of drinking to continue. Apparently Rooney stayed up drinking till 5-6 AM, against the advice of Southgate, his superior at that time. Also, he could’ve skipped getting pissed till the Sunday morning and try to get fit for Arsenal game given the ”knee injury”.

He didn't get rid of Robbo but I know what you mean. Rooney isn't the fittest, I know, but he went on the piss like many other 30 yearolds would have done. It wasn't the smartest thing to do but he didn't do anything illegal ffs. I think the media has got something against him. Swearing into a camera and get banned is fecking outrageous. Being Gerrard with 5 less PL-medals it would have been fine....

Well considering how most of the English media have supported him through thick and thin... No, he didn't do anything illegal but he missed training because of drinking, in England uniform. Or if his knee injury, that has now disappeared, is true, you'd think he would've returned to United and do his best to recover for one of the most important games of the season. You know, like Fellaini & TFM did.

Which 30+ year old EPL footballers have been found going out on the piss? Genuine question.

That's a bit of an odd mistake to make on Robbo.

Anyway the second point you make is just wrong. Read Keane's autobiography. He states clearly that when he arrived he was pleased to see there was a drinking culture still at the club, cites Bruce, Ince and a couple of others. Keane himself was much worse than Rooney.

I'm not justifying Rooney. It's just that your account of that time is wrong.

Fair enough. I remembered that the Class of ’92’s break through came because SAF wanted rid of those old school drinkers, guess Incey & Brucey were part of it, too.
