Zlatan - Contract to be extended

Yeah, Rashford is a great example of how to put pressure on players - the pressure he put on Oxlade-Chamberlain before he had a free cross for Arsenals last minute equalizer was the perfect example?

Some people like/dislike certain players and fit 'facts' to suit....

Are you blind? He said out pressure on defenders! Then you have the balls to say people have their favorites. Well I do.

Ibrahimovic isn't one of them & hasn't deserved a bloody new contract.

And I thought AOC wasnt a defender, dont reply if you have no idea what it's about. Rash has scored numerous goals just because of work ethic and fighting for every ball.
Of course he's not smart arse, but if you're going to big up Rashford as someone who's great at pressurising players, expect to get examples/opinions back that give an alternative opinion.... it's called a forum and if you want to restrict who comments and about what, go set your own site up.

What are you on? Discuss with yourself then because thats not what Im talking about. Putting pressure on defenders is a tactic to disrupt the teams buildup play and won the ball high up the pitch, it is completely irrelevant to the discussion I was having with top1isman, zero relevance.

Oh it was a private chat? My apologies.

Fantastic news. He has scored 8 in 17 so far which is not bad at all considering he could have easily been on around 14 if the goalkeepers weren't absolutely outstanding on the day.

He's not just a target man either, he makes chances happen. Personally, I don't think we need another striker. We need to buy a few defenders instead. Maybe a partner for Pogba like Matuidi.

Not against it at all, but just seems strange timing. We're not even half way through this season yet!

Have no desire at all to drop him, but v Arsenal on Saturday, there was a move where we played a long ball down the wing, Rashford against all odds, made it his, and it just made you think of the extra worry factor of a pacy frontman.
We should be able to make it work with pace out wide though. Just need Martial to get anywhere near last year, and either Miki/Rashford/Limgard or whoever to sort the other wing.

Think Utd sh!t themselves when he said over the weekend he could play in the MLS. Would of waited till near the end of the season and see how he coped over the winter, see if hes improved on his goal scoring. Would that mean were not in for a top striker for next season now?

We should probably be getting a new striker plus keeping Ibra, just because he's getting a second season doesn't mean he'll necessarily play every game like he has been so far. Imagine what you've just said but also with Ibrahimovic on the bench.
Dont think Ibra would settle for the bench apart from the odd game. You can bet there were assurances he would be No 1 before he signed.

He still has absolutely everything to prove in this league. Hopefully you can read into this more of a "if both parties still feel he can contribute", rather than a guarantee if he wants to stay he can.

Fact is he's missed enough chances that should have us within a few points of top spot. On current finishing he'd have blazed Mata's chance over the bar; age isn't an excuse for missing simple chances either.

It was pretty awkward in the press conference when Ibra gave a shady answer about another year so I don't think anything is confirmed. Could see him thinking what he should answer without saying, 'if we're still shit at the end of the season I'm off'

I don't get why there's such an uproar about wages. The club's wage structure operates well within the overall revenue. It's usually among the best ratios in the league, despite how large the bill is. Why does it matter if he's getting £20k pay as you play, or a million quid a month? The club can swing it. It's not your money. His wages doesn't mean we can't afford another centre forward. It's a weird problem to have about it.

he said its automatic by a certain point, jose said he wants him so sounds like not much to discuss

If he takes Rooney's current role in the team and we still buy in a striker I have no issues with extending his contract, but going into the season with a 36 year old striker starting every week is stupid and will just see us in the same position as this season.

How about give the guy a contract towards end of the season? Judge him to see how he fairs for a bit longer before offering him an extension. It would have motivatd him to peform in order to stay but now he won't give a monkeys. The club just comes across as desperate and weak plus sends out the wrong messages to the players. Play average, here you go, have an extension. Pathetic.

I don't usually care about the fees and wages as such but when you are not doing well, it's just another stick for the media to beat you with. When you are paying the highest wages, highest fees, have the most expensive player on your books, it just adds that bit more to the embarrassment of being inferior to the likes of bloody Liverpool. So there you go, it's irrational and shouldn't bother us fans really but it is the context of our situation now that makes it stand out. Having said that, Ibra is far from the main culprits in that regard.

Because it makes it more difficult to get rid of players, other clubs dont overpay so if we do we have to keep them until their contract is up. See Rooney, Basti and probably the likes of Memphis, Young, Fellaini etc.

Bonkers, seriously, and we can't get rid of the vastly overpaid deadwood already. Yes Zlatan you will help us being continuously shit for the next few years, thank you, thank you again.

Have we even attempted to sell any of those players?
Basti for sure, but clubs will find it more difficult to attract them from start as they'd have to accept a huge decline in wages. We pay our relatively far too much, sometimes I really wonder how the negotiations go here. Average players get top contracts immediately, no buildup.

I'd honestly rather we brought in a striker in his prime. I think Ibra is a polished Andy Carroll at his age in this league. In saying that, Carroll wouldn't have missed the majority of chances put on his plate this season so far.

Doesn't bother me if we extend his contract. It doesn't exclude us buying a new striker, so no problems. Rooney will still be offloaded, too, so again, not too worried.

He has gone through a bad patch finishing wise but it would be worrying if he wasn't even getting any chances. He scored twice in his last game for us versus Swansea and hopefully he's back to his scoring ways.

On course to score 20 plus in his debut season in England... At 35 years old.
When he fully adapts to this league and gets his scoring boots on he'll be wowing us all again, normally the top players ability to get into goal scoring positions goes first while their finishing instincts tends to linger a bit more, that's why I'm not worried about him.
If Ibra joined us 10 years ago he would have embarassed this league, what Costa is doing now but more dynamic.

Great news. He's class and seems to have gotten better with age, despite a relatively dry spell (by his high standards).

Zlatan was bought not only for his goalscoring prowess, but also because it was thought he wouldn't need an adjustment period, could lead the line and take the flak while mentoring the likes of Rashford and Martial. While he hasn't hit the heights of his PSG form, he seems to fulfilling his other duties and seems to have a good rapport with the rest of the squad. So all in all, I'm not opposed to having him stick on for another season.

Better to decide later in the season,I'd say. His goalscoring form may, or may not, improve signifcantly. We seem to be constantly getting our hopes up, going back to Januzaj through to Depay (remember that goal in the CL last season), Martial, Rashford. Ibra was sold on here because of his previous rescord, which is much better than what we've got so far. Let's take our time.

His presence in the dressing room is worth a contract extension alone, such is the lack of winning mentality amongst this current group of players.

Hmm, not over the Moon to be honest.

We shouldn't be paying elite level CF wages to this guy imo.

I'm probably biased, I don't really like him to be honest. But I do think we should be aiming higher for the wages we pay.

He's the highest paid CF in the Premier League ffs. Can't we get someone in their prime for that? Someone a bit more...mobile?

His shirt selling will pay off his wages easily. Still a quality player and his experience and mentality are important for our team especially that we are lacking that "winning mentality"

I hope this doesn't stop us from throwing the sink at Griezzy. Zlatan ideally should be rotated in his age, not playing week in and out.

a)
Martial - Rashford - Griez

b)
Mkhi - Zlatan - Mata

Carroll is actually poor finisher. I believe Carroll would still missed a lot of chances put on his plate. Just because both players are big and tall doesn't mean they are similar style. Ibra can create chances for his team mate while Carroll is just waiting for the ball comes at him, Ibra has so much better technique touch and control than Carroll, Ibra can still beat his man while Carroll cannot (he can beat his men in the air though). Good business if we want to make money from his shirt selling I think.

I'm not sure he'll be first choice next season but the players have been raving about his presence in the dressing room and he will be an asset to have in the squad next season like Giggs/Ferdinand were long after they past their best. He will help raise everyone's game and there is slowly already signs of that. He's our best option up front currently and he's strong as an ox and helps bring others into play. Jersey sales with his name on the back would mostly cover his wages also probably

he said its automatic by a certain point, jose said he wants him so sounds like not much to discuss

'for the moment there's no...we haven't had any discussions'
'if I feel like now, probably it will be a second year'

Not exactly echoing Jose. Basically, if he feels like it he will stay another year (a day after saying he will conquer the MLS)

Reading some of the posts turning their noses up at Zlatan's extension, I almost think we are signing either Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Ronaldo or Griezmann.

So long that he's not a guaranteed starter and this doesn't prevent us from actually attempting to sign a world class striker next year then I have no problem. He's a fine squad player to have but I don't think we'll win anything with him as our main man. I thought that when we were linked with him and I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise since.

Bit early to announce that, don't contract extensions get announced towards the end of the season?

Aren't these extensions normally linked to appearances this year? If so, we know he'll trigger it anyways.
