Press conference - Stoke

Why is nobody asking why Shaw hasn't had a look even as a sub in a cup game when he has been full training ?

If José considers Rooney as a winger then we might have a problem

He was making the point that there were too many players who have played that position to keep Memphis.

Stop reading Chris Winterburn's tweets and watch the actual video of the presser.

If he did have a shite attitude, Mourinho would have found a way to dodge it or appear vague. It's also not the first time Mourinho has made those comments about him.

Whats in it for him to do that?

We've left the door open for him to come back if he proves himself. What does Mourinho gain from burning his bridges by saying anything other than 'Memphis was a good bloke'?

He mentioned him as an extra. And he's already played a couple of matches out wide, iirc the Swansea game, too, in which he was really good. I'd say we don't have a problem.

Was thinking about this as well.

Rooney's best moments this season have come from the left side. It's where he's most effective.

I'd prefer to have him playing as an inside forward instead of fecking up everything through the middle.

I don't think he is, all he's stating is that in the event of an injury crisis Rooney could play there.
Rooney has played on the wing once or twice already without an injury crisis mainly just to give him game time.

Rooney played on the left cutting in under Ferguson. I distinctly remember being at St James Park one cold evening and Rooney was superb in that position. Obviously wouldn't be as effective now have lost a yard but in a front 3 can do a job.

Rooney started in the leftwing Crystal Palace away and West Brom away three days later to have playing minutes? Why is it so hard for people to accept Mourinho might think he's a good option from there, in certain (namely, away) games?

Because he is in decline and his limited appearances this year along with being left out completely in inporyant matches despite not being injured is further proof.

Nothing malicious in my posts just recognising he won't be here for much longer he himself will want more game time something we can't give him if we are serious about trying to compete on all fronts next year.

Jose is now in a very good "press conference" shape when you compare it with his pressers in october or november.

To be honest, it's got nothing to do with Memphis. It's man-management clear and simple. He said the same about Schneiderlin.

It's about how future players will perceive Mourinho. If he goes off and slags a player, anyone Mourinho looks at signing might think twice because then Mourinho could be looked upon as someone who doesn't look after players. This way a new signing can see Mourinho doesn't throw players under the bus and will sign easily enough if they like him and his management style.

Yes, that too. He gains nothing from slagging him off.

He also talked about Memphis talent and potential in the same conference, and at times you'd be forgiven for thinking we'd just signed him.

I've never bought the bad attitude stories, but its silly to place too much stock on what Mourinho said today.

Press conferences are always easy when you're winning games. 16 unbeaten and on the verge of a cup final.

There's not much that the press can hit him with at the moment.

I think it just shows his mindset. He hates not winning and it makes him miserable.

"Of course," Mourinho replied when asked if Shaw's injury record had influenced his decisions to exclude him from recent squads. "You try to have in the squad the players with more minutes, the players in better shape, in better condition.

"In Luke Shaw's case, even in the game against Reading, when he could have started the game and had 90 minutes, in the morning of the game he was ill and not ready to play.

"So even in that match, which could have been good for him, he was not able to play, so he's having a difficult period."

Shaw's fitness has been under scrutiny since Louis van Gaal questioned it during United's pre-season tour in 2014.

Shaw and Mourinho had a tetchy exchange with Mourinho after Watford's winner in September was followed by another public rebuke at Swansea in November, when Mourinho questioned Shaw's decision to make himself unavailable for the match.

"For the team, you have to do anything," Mourinho said. "There is a difference between the brave, who want to play at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference.

"If I were to speak with the many great football people of this team, they will say they played many times without being 100 per cent.

"We have players on the pitch with problems. In every sport, how many times do you play and you're not 100 per cent?"

Shaw has played just twice since and has sustained five separate injuries this season, while illness prevented him from playing in the September Europa League win over Zorya Luhansk.

Mourinho has rotated between Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind in Shaw's absence. United will not re-sign left-back Patrice Evra from Juventus.

Nice shitstriring question and even better response from Jose on De Gea/Romero.
