Don't mind Oviedo coming in, defensively he's a little bit better than Van Aanholt and we're in desperate need of a LB. Gibson is another matter though. He's a plodder with a half decent shot on him. His injury record is terrible too. Only started 3 games in 3 and a half years.
Ulloa is also being heavily linked this morning. He's told Leicester he wants to leave. Think he'd be a decent signing for us. Better as a target man to replace Anichebe who is out for most of the rest of the season. Think Defoe will link up well with him.
Not looking forward to the Spurs game tomorrow night at all. It could be a record PL defeat.

@Andy Jones Aye, Ovideo is a good player actually and he seems the dependable sort. He does have a history of injuries, though. PvA is a very entertaining player to watch (from a rival perspective) but feck me, I wouldn't want him near a team that I support. As for Gibson, well being Irish and all, I had high hopes for him but his career has become a-bit a mess really and he looks so, so poor when he does play the odd game.
I also think Ulloa is quite poor and is way more suited to being the main man at a Championship club. But as-per, Moyes goes for PL based players rather than looking further afield. Look at Llorente for example, he would have been a very good signing and I think him and Defoe could have been a decent partnership.

Moyes' signing are always hilarious, just raiding his former clubs.
It's like the football World ceases to exist outside of places he's managed.
I mean, Ulloa as uninspiring as he is, would at least break the trend of signing former player... Go Davey!
Obviously the market is limited and there's very little quality up for sale, but it's always amazing that the clubs facing relegation end up overpaying for strikers who have poor goalscoring records. This is the time of the year that the Grahams and the Fletchers rub their hands with glee at the prospect of a big pay rise for doing nothing.

This is weird, he used to be quite good at buying at a budget for Everton. I'm not sure if Sunderland's scouting is piss poor (I doubt there are many even working there) or Everton's was so good to make him look better than he is.
Gibson! ffs, I can't remember the last time I saw the guy play. He's bound to solve all their problems!
I think it's simply because Sunderland has not a lot of money (players are leaving them for better pay) so they can't buy players tempting them with wages. It's also not London or something to be tempted by the location. Then the only remaining option is buy players who will come for the manager. Which is probably what's been happening.
He's the kind of manager who is looking for a player who'll "do a job". You're never told what the job is, just that the player can do it. If you are looking for a player who will excite and enthrall you, making you want to part with your hard-earned cash to go and see him, tough luck. You're getting a player who can do a job instead.

His transfers at Everton were actually quite hit-and-miss. He certainly signed a lot of rubbish that got shipped out relatively quick. He did get some spot on with the likes of Baines, Coleman, Arteta, Cahill and Jagielka. Then you had the likes of Bilyaletdinov, Kroldrup, Andy Johnson, James Beattie etc, etc...

I do like Gibson though, he was good for us when Moyes was here but he's got to many problems off the pitch to even keep him as a squad player. If Sunderland can get him on the pitch regularly he will be a good signing.
It was a piss take... About the only good thing he done was score that winner against City. We all loved him on here after that!

You do wonder how much of an immediate impact he could have for Sunderland as he much be very unfit. Feels like an age since he last played. Still a good step up from someone like Rodwell.
Has he behaviour issues or just genuinely rubbish, a midfield partnership of him and Rodwell has relegation written all over it.
His transfer record at Everton is overrated. He did well to get them established in midtable early in his career which gave him time to extensively scout players and slowly build a team. Moyes needs time, more than most managers as he is very indecisive. It's why he takes so long to scout players and why he ends up doing the majority of his transfer business in late August every year. I reckon if the transfer window was abolished he wouldn't sign players until Oct/Nov.
He's not doing well buying players for Sunderland because in their situation he needs to work quickly, not his strength. So he is just going with what he knows, hence most of his signings are past players.
Haha, Rodwell is utterly despised at Sunderland. I have the odd gander at the Sunderland forum and they find a way to slate him in every single thread. Madness, considering he was so highly regarded as a 17/18 year old.
Aye, I said in another post, as an Irishman I desperately wanted Gibson to succeed and at the time, I thought a move to Everton would be a good one for him. However, it really hasn't turned out that way at all. I think he will struggle at Sunderland and I anticipate the signing not working out whatsoever.
He is a good player going forward which makes me a bit disappointed that we've let him go, especially to a relegation rival like Palace. Oviedo will turn out to be a good signing if we can keep him fit I think. Not at all sure about Gibson though. Clearly has some problems as he's only made 3 starts in 3 and a half years and played only 51 times in 5 years. Can remember thinking he would have been good for us when he turned us down at the time we signed O'Shea and Brown. Think Ulloa will be ok short-term for us. We can't rely just on Defoe again and he hit up a bit of a partnership with Anichebe so hopefully he can do the same with this lad who is quite a similar player.
Not a chance are we paying £12M for Ulloa, if it happens it will be £6M max. Leicester have turned down a £3M bid over the weekend.

Can't stay off the ale. Allegedly. Then there was an incident a year and a half ago where he hit a cyclist while drink driving and left the scene (only to smash into a petrol station afterward).
Don't think he has been injured much as of late, but he doesn't have the legs to play in Koeman's midfield.
