LC W League Cup Final

Southampton 2:3 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I appreciate his attitude. Guy's a winner. Knows we lucked it. Don't expect him to go full blast the team on the pitch, like Fergie at Aberdeen, but he'll drive the team to do more.

I'm relieved. We came so close to f'n that up.
I wanted to tuck him in but I know what you mean.

They hammered us on the wings, but unlike the past couple of years, we came through. Great result, and I hope, one of many Cups to come.

Think some of the players were leggy from hectic past few weeks of relentless cup football. Southampton preparation tactics and energy was outstanding and they played better over the 90 mins with some fantastic wing play.

But in the end, the gulf in quality of players told: despite playing badly, our class was always good enough to win.

Fantastic that we are ridding our profligacy in front of goal, our finishing today was clinical.

Zlatan is as close to Roy Keane or Eric Cantona in terms of his contribution as well as influence on the whole team. Talisman and star player at the same time: he is an extraordinary sportsman.

But we owe Zlatan's contribution solely down to the aura and ability of our manager Jose Mourinho, who attracted him to our club. He is absolutely the right man for the job and embodies everything I could want from a Manchester United manager. He has my unconditional support.

Some of you moaning about players etc. We just won a fecking title you should be grinning ear to ear.

I think we are mate. But can't ignore the fact that we were second best most of the day. We just had Ibra. But so happy!

Would love to have interviews posted in here as they come out. Idiots on Noggie tv not showing it.

I really don't think that is a good assessment of the game whatsoever.

I saw Herrera intercept more balls today alone than a lot of midfielders do in a whole season. (felt that way anyway).
Yes, he was lucky to stay on, but he was also unlucky to get his yellow card going by some of the other decisions the ref decided not to punish.
They bossed our midfield because they were more rested and had more men there, not because Ander didn't do his job, which he did.
He lost pretty much every 50/50 got out muscled and couldn't retain possession.
Lingard made some nice passes and got a goal that wasn't easy, did he run the defence ragged? No but what would you want from a no10 when their midfield can't keep the ball?
They bossed it from minute 1 and Herrera didn't play mid week either so should of been fresh, he needs to do better and this game highlighted why last week a lot of people were calling for an extra CM to be brought in so we can sub him or pogba if they are under performing

Second best throughout the pitch yes. But our goals and build up play were clinical. We haven't said that too much all year. Performance was below par, but the mentality and finishing were top class.

You and me saw two completely different games, think it's best to just leave it there.

That's what Jose brings.

Outclassed for 90 minutes but still won. Had this game happened in the last 3 years we'd have lost comfortably

Herrera was on a yellow for a long time. Marriner was keeping it close and allowed him to play on after his clip on Redmond. And he contributed the decisive ball to Zlatan.

We scored 3 very good goals and won the cup:devil: Southampton was great, worked hard and full of running and gave us a very hard game.
But it was a terrible performance from our team, one of the worst final performances ive ever seen from us.
Need to step up if we want to win more this season.

Agreed on both accounts.
My only regret is that we did not get Jose, straight after SAF. SAF should've tapped him up the moment he was about to leave. Instead we went with Moyes.
And if we had brought in Jose, we'd maybe have got Ibra (or an equivalent), 3 years back.

Anyway, onwards and upwards.

I think Jose was right when he said Southampton would be rested after not playing for nearly a fortnight and we have played (3-4) games since they last played. They were fresher and that was the difference in the play, but Jose has put the Fergie factor back in the team never say never attitude. We started to control it in the last 15 minutes or so as well. Would their goal ruled offside of made a difference if counted? no one knows. It could of spurred us on and made them more defensive. Hopefully one down two to go.

I was puzzled why Mourinho looks so moody after the final whistle, and even during the celebrations but after hearing his interview, it seems like he feels more relieved and emotional than anything. Fair play to Jose for giving credit to Southampton. He's right, if this went to extra-time, we would be in trouble.

Absolutely. We lucked it today. And that wrong call tarnished whatever shine the trophy had. I am with Jose, having won this way feels so wrong.
Jose didn't say it felt wrong. It's a bit hard on Southampton but ultimately our quality shone through.
