EL W Europa League Round of 16 2nd Leg

Manchester United 1:0 FC Rostov

Post-match discussion

I just find it massively delusional how so many United fans seem to think we're the best team left in the Europa. We're the biggest team but definitely not the best.
Well who are the best team left?

I'm not sure that's a good way of moving forward is the problem. Surely all that does is allow the clubs standards to drop?
depends on how you define standards. Modern day football is simply about results. We need to win cups and be in the CL. Thats our standard we need to hit right now,

Fancy football from young players can wait.

We had some good games some bad. If all the games and the football was all bad then we could talk. You can't always play nice or brilliantly.

Well who are the best team left?

I think if Lyon catch us on a day like this we'll get knocked out by them, other than that, we should be comfortable against the other remaining teams. Should be...

Not a great performance but we are at business end of season and all that matters now is results. Performance tonight clearly related to fatigue due to number of games and traveling. Jose's interview tonight is obviously for the players to see and creating that seige mentality that's going to crucial in run in. Team spirit can overcome fatigue as we saw in 1999, anyone complaining about him saying we are going to lose Sunday have missed the point.

From now to Sunday he will be drumming it into them everyone thinks we are going to lose so let's show them...fully expect us to win, and fancy us for this trophy, especially if we get a kind draw tomorrow. Love the sly digs at Chelsea and pool. I reckon he is seething over his sacking and can see our rivalry with Chelsea really getting toxic next season.

considering fatigue and the style of play from Rostov I'm content with the way we played.

I will never deem a 2-1 win over 180minutes against a team like Rostov a good result. I obviously have higher expectations than others. I'm not expecting a 10-0 thrashing, i'm expecting a team like United however to demonstrate they're a class above such opposition. No way should anyone be happy with that performance or result, all it does is show how far we've fallen in 4 years. In both fan expectations but also results.
We played just three days ago didn't we? The players are clearly experiencing fatigue (Pogba's injury, bananagate) so i don't see what's wrong with them just doing what's necessary sometimes rather than overexerting themselves. If we won 4-0 rather than 1-0, what difference would that have made here? There's no goal difference to worry about and we're progressing either way. With another game in three days, don't you think it's reasonable to assume there was no need to really go for it and risk any other injuries? Especially as we came into the game already going through as it stood.

I have nothing personal for you. Just see that you're on a mission against Mourinho.

Post about one game in which he should have been sent of. That means you don't like him?
I've seen some of your posts about him and you were absolutely creaming over him.
All good of course, you have your favorite manager but I don't get why are you on Jose's case tonight so much.
Is it just a coincidence you saw Pep getting slated in City thread and decided to have a go in Jose thread?
I have about 10 or more posts revelling in his losses this season. Far from my favorite manager, I hope he fails and I hope Mourinho wins it all, yes even if that means nugus like you will be thinking I will suffer from all the green smilies that await me whilst reality is that I am rubbing one out and ruining my monitor wallpaper of him posing with all our new trophies.

It's not coincidence no. I love to play devil's advocate and I can not stand hypocrisy, it doesn't matter if it's on RAWK or Arsenalmania or the caf. It irks me and I feel I have a divine right to teach people something about logic. Like calling one a fraud and useless, whilst merrily click on a Jose thread and be all cheery and defensive about the man. It's so blatant, I can not help it, I am one of the last shining knights on the interwebs I feel. You would do well to preserve me and do me well, I am a worldwide treasure.

I'm not going to search backwards because I will likely throw my phone through my TV, but did someone actually say we were better under LVG??

Ive seen some posts today saying they enjoyed the football under LVG more, lol.

Anyway, job done tonight. And thats what it was, a job needed to be done, and we navigated through it despite the circumstances.

Great spirit from the lads. To have travelled to Russia last week, returned to play Chelsea, lost three key players, got a red card, played almost 60 minutes with only ten men, deal with a disappointing travelling arrangement, forced to travel late into the early morning of Tuesday, start training again and be ready to play a stubborn and defensive Russian side and still win, kudos. People need to cut this team some slack. Next season is the real deal after Jose would have brought in new additions and let some current players leave. For now, they just need to find their way to the Champions League through any means possible.

I find it massively delusional that somehow we are expected to play brilliantly in every single game given our fixture list! Results are key if we want to get champions league next season.

Our recent performances have been significantly influenced by fatigue, not just physical but mental as well. Despite this we still won!

I personally don't care about who people think is best, the fact remains that we are in the quarter final of the Europa League. Job one.

You really think that? Not sure I agree at all.
You dont see that manager turnover is the highest its ever been? Why do managers get sacked after virtually their first major issues with form?

very clever piece of mind games.

Very very very frustrating to watch BUT job done. Tiredness was kicking in but more worrying is injuries and the suspensions we have.

I think we miss Martial, he gives us so much, when his on the ball the defenders double up on him giving more space to our other attackers and also when he's on the ball I always feel something will happen.

The LVG sympathisers are always going to crawl back out after a disappointing performance.

My only concern for this weekend is that both Pogba/Herrera will miss this weekend's match but what frightens me more is the thought of Mourinho playing Jones in midfield!!!

Jesus Christ you have a high opinion of yourself, don't you.

What's a nugus btw, is that some kind of an insult?

Anyway football fans are fickle and exaggerate sometimes. And even when they call a manager a fraud sometimes they don't mean it nor do they think he is one. It's a City manager so of course people will go overboard with laughing and critics.

Anyway be a knight in a shining armour or whatever. We well certainly preserve you..

Maybe a disappointing season? 6th with a difficult fixture list left is nothing to crow about...

Care to explain your usage in bold @Kevin ?

Words that you could easily hear coming from Trumps mouth :smirk:

I'd take sixth with two trophies and champions league next season. Quite possible spurs, arse pool and citeh win feck all and get in top four

Well I know I am one of the few truly intelligent ones on here who know how to mess with minds and have them tiptoeing over a thin line I spin with me and a scissor in my hand deciding whether or not to let him fall to immeasurable depths of ridicule. ;)

Please preserve me yes. And thank you for admitting I am right to educate.

Young or Rashford were prepared to come for Rojo. Then we scored and Jose decided to keep it as it is.

Jones came on at left wing back when Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are both in our squad and not injured.

There is no possible scenario in which that isn't amazingly crap management. It also had a massively negative impact on our performance and could easily have cost us the game.

Why we were even playing with ffive at the back in the first place would be a stretch to justify. We constantly had two players standing around doing absolutely feck all because of our stupid set up. I've no real idea why we set up like that in the first place, but there was no justifcation at all for not changing it after the first half hour when it was clearly not suited to the game.

The season is not over yet my friend. A good result here and a bit of luck there and we'll be in the top four come the end of the season.

Even if we don't finish top four, I can hand on heart say that I have enjoyed this seasons football exponentially when compared to the tedium of the LVG era.

Zlatan was too greedy and squandered too many good chances tonight, I even think his assist was meant as a shot but his bearings of where the goal was were off.

Thanks you Romero, couple of great saves from him tonight made sure we didn't have to go to extra time. Wonder if we got through to the final with him in goal if he'd start?

I take results over performance any day of the week. If we get Result + performance, thats bonus in these current times.
Absolutely.

It's been a hectic few weeks. We can forget performances if we keep progressing.

Whatever floats your boat.

If you feel better thinking I admitted that then go on. ;)

Every forum should have its clown. We will preserve you.

@Dwazza
 Cheers. I noted some other possibilities hence the request for clarification. Try not insulting others, though. It makes you more bearable.

I rarely insult people, it is usually the ones I interact with that come with the barrage of insults. But to me you may give them a free pass on that for doing so as you'll rarely hear me complain about it. It just proves to me that I have been proven correct once again and there's more drama to be found in the little pinky nail I broke during uncomely activities I sometimes perform.

We did well.
People seem to forget we've played a shit-ton of games, a lot with the same players, and just the last 8 days we've had 3 games.
That considered, and that Rostov had gotten good results vs other good teams, means us going further with being in control of the match is a good thing. We were unlucky/bad at the final move/shot not to score a fair few more as well.

Happy with the game.

Pay your visit to Jose thread.
Wish I never. Reading some of the posts in there made my head hurt

Anyway was a meh performance but good result. Awesome saves by Romero tonight especially the one at the end. I'm just pleased we're through to the quarter finals. Seems like most around here aren't though

Jones came on for his height, they took off their creative wideman and brought on that big lump.
Jose said himself Rojo was in big trouble so if he had to come off he could move Jones infield and play Mkhi (?) as wingback which he has done already this season.
If we brought on Shaw and Rojo had to go off then our subs are used and Rashford is stuck on the bench in case of extra time.
It would have killed us.
