Top 4 race 2016/17

I wouldn't be too pessimistic. If anything, as outsider I see thing repeats itself yet again. It's really about time you guy turn the corner just like every other season when there ain't expectation. The international break comes at a handy time too.
That's the only positive thing. We do really needed a break to break the vicious cycle. Just hope Wenger is set to announce he is leaving in this period so we can have a good end to the season.

Hand on heart do you lot really see yourselves scoring enough goals in these upcoming games to squeak into a Top 4 spot?

I just don't see it personally especially with injuries/fatigue piling up. All those draws at home against fodder has already sealed your fate & left you with a little margin for error.
No (like I said in the post you quoted) :( But I won't concede that we're out of it, though! It would hardly be a miracle if we did it.

As it stands we're 5th, 4 points off 2nd, 3 off 3rd and 4th having played a game less than Liverpool. How the feck are we still in this after our endless long list of feck ups this season? Puts into perspective how bad Arsenal/Liverpool/City have also been this season.

Cue a Middlesbrough comeback in the second half.

Imagine the problem Utd would have if without Zlatan and Pogba the rest of the squad destroy Boro 5 or 6 - 0!

There are plenty of us on here who don't buy into the "we rely on Zlatan narrative". Don't get me wrong he has been much better than I think many of us expected in terms of his goal return but he really should have had double the number of goals based on the sheer volume of chances he needs

If we had a Costa or an Aguero I genuinely think we would be top 2 now

Those 3 and Spurs despite the fact they dodge alot of the criticism have been very inconsistent too. City like United have struggled at home while Liverpool and Spurs have poor away records.

If City beat Liverpool we're 3 points off 4th with 2 games in hand.

If Liverpool beat City we're 6 points off 2nd with 2 games in hand.

If Liverpool and City draw we're 5 points off 3rd with a game in hand and 4 points off 4th with 2 games in hand.

Just need to keep the wins flowing over the next few games. If we can get into 3rd before our games with rivals I think we should be OK.

We're right back in the hunt. For all the talk of our super tough late games, we have West Brom and Everton at home next with Sunderland away.
So it's all right in our hands now.

Pleased with a 2 week break, at least some of the lads will get it as rest. And hope our internationals don't play too much either.

Feeling a lot more optimistic about our chances now. 3 points behind 'Pool with a game in hand. Hell, 4 points behind Spurs in second and they are going to be without Kane for a few weeks. We could actually do it.

Are people forgetting we still have to play City, Arsenal, Spurs, all away, and Chelsea home? Our chances are plausible at best.

City to hammer Liverpool is my preference here. A draw would be a good alternative, but I think City and Spurs are making the top four whereas Liverpool have looked suspect to me all season.

Crazy how close we are to second (if we assume we win our game in hand), given the outrageous amount of dropped points at home.

City vs Liverpool who you guys cheering for?

Personally I want a draw as City have a tough game next week as well while liverpool play Everton

City to win this and against Arsenal. We have to pick our targets.. Arsenal and Liverpool are the best bets. Cant let them have any extra points... GD is already in their favour.

Yep, I dont wanna see Liverpool gain confidence or any sort of momentum.
Saying that, if City lose we could be a point off them if we win our game in hand and we have a very similar run in.

We are close to second place, but our fixtures at the end of the season are like a showdown.

City will get the top 4 for sure in my opinion. If they have a better keeper, they would have challenge Chelsea for the league title this season. So City beats Liverpool will favour us more. And also Liverpool tends to lose points against the lesser teams.

It's a given to hope for a City win, as City will most likely end up in the top 4 either way. Also, Liverpool got a piss easy schedule for the rest of the season - and although I know they are shit against lesser teams I'd rather see them drop three points for sure today.

It's our last five fixtures that are the problem.

All season we have drawn with shit teams. I don't see it not continuing to hold us back.

Still don't think Arsenal are in it, and a positive result for us today keeps it very interesting between ourselves & United.

We went on a good run in Dec/Jan - mostly wins, few draws. We just need to do the same in the coming months.

You're away to Burnley aren't you?

Stoke and West Brom away might cause us problems. City and Arsenal have a tough run coming up.

call me crazy, but i think everton could be the dark horse in this top 4 race, they're slowly creeping up and if they get a result against liverpool (which is likely considering liverpool haven't been that impressive at home) and a result at utd, they could easily slip into that top four. everton are very strong at home and going by their fixtures, their homes games are very favourable, and so are a couple of their away games.

Is that you Tony Bellew ?

They won't be far away but I think they'll just miss out. Possibly finish 6th if one of us has a bad end to the season.

everton getting a result against pool?

That hasnt happened in decades. Would be nice.

Come on now, that would be akin to Leicester winning the league last season. Doubt we'll see two of those kind of upsets inside the span of a year.

They haven't won at Anfield in 18 years. It seems unlikely that they'll beat us but they're more than capable of drawing.

Hell, if Pogba's crossbar and post strikes would've gone in we'd be challenging Chelsea for the title as well.

exactly. a draw at your place and a draw at utd, then their home games are favourable and they have west ham and arsenal away, both are which are winnable for them. i would certainly not write them off.

You forget Everton have played two games more, plus i think they tend to slip up when it comes a key moment of the season.
