Just something interesting before the PL comes back, what's the best English XI you can make using players born in the same county?

Hard to do since I have no idea where county boundaries actually lie but this team is all from the Newcastle/Northumberland
Fraser Forster
Jackie Charlton - Robbie Elliot - Frank Clarke
Bobby Charlton - Michael Carrick
Gascoigne - Chris Waddle - Peter Bearsley
Jackie Milburn - Alan Shearer

Bit top heavy but feck it, that team has swagger.

Notts:

Manager David Pleat
Assistant Peter Taylor

There is no goalkeeper

Defence:
Steve Chettle
Sophie Bradley
Wes Morgan
Viv Anderson

Steve Hodge
Jermaine Jenas

Andrew Cole
Chris Sutton
Jeff Astle
and most famous of all Notts legends

Cumbria

Goalkeeper
John Burrridge

Defence
Kevin Beattie
Paul Huntington
Stan Laurel
Emlyn Hughes

Midfield
Gavin Skelton
William Wordsworth

Attack
Grant Holt
Kevin Sandwith
Matt Jansen
Melvyn Bragg

Subs
David Starkey

While looking for players from my home county of Nottinghamshire (spoiler alert, they're mostly all shit), I discovered that Herbert Kilpin the founder of AC Milan is actually from Nottingham. Who knew..

He was also apparently the first Englishman to play abroad.

If it's all time we should include Merseyside and Greater Manchester as Lancashire then. As this was the case before 1974.

Off the top off my head for Merseyside.

Phil Thompson Carragher Chris Lawler

Ian Callaghan Terry Mac Sammy Lee Stevie Gerrard Stevie Mac

Fowler Rooney

We dont need a keeper as we are too good.

But look at that line up of forwards

Just thought of some more.

Roger Hunt
Davie Fairclough
Davie Johnson
Jimmy Case
Billy Liddle
Tommy Smith

Scousers rule and dont you forget it !

Only the Geordies come close .

What makes this beautiful is apart from Roger Hunt who is from Goldborne which I think just sneaks into Merseyside the rest are Scousers.

This thread should renamed the rest of the country against Liverpool's roughest areas and council estates ( Toxteth , Croxteth , Huyton , Kirkby , Anfield , Kirkby and Cantril Farm )

Alan Kennedy.

Manchester (or Greater Manchester)

1. Joe Corrigan
2. Gary Neville
3. Roger Byrne
4. Nobby Stiles
5. Wes Brown
6. Colin Bell
7. Peter Barnes
8. Paul Scholes
9. Geoff Hurst
10. Dennis Viollet
11. Johnny Aston

I don't know enough about City, and other clubs but there's probably one or two obvious ones I have missed.

Remi Moses, John Aston, Andy Ritchie etc

I'd have Bryan Robson in there too...

Golborne is in Wigan Greater Manchester not Merseyside.

I would add Alan Ball, Francis Lee, Nat Lofthouse and Simone Perrotta to that list.
Which other county can claim a top European international to their team?

Ball, Stiles, Hunt and Hurst all started the 1966 World Cup final and all are from what is now Greater Manchester.
How many of your Scousers started...
I would suggest Greater Manchester's squad is somewhat better than what you are suggesting.
However if it's a pre 1974 Lancashire team then the combination of Merseyside and Gr Manchester plus the rest of Lancs would definitely make it easily the best team IMHO.

Few more -

Peter Reid
Brian Labone - Would of started in the 1966 world cup team but chose to get married instead.
Leighton Baines
Joe Royle
Tommy Wright
Colin Harvey
Dave Hickson

Liverpool GK is tricky, isn't it? Echo reckons Andy Rankin is the best one. Easier after that. For undiluted Scouse 'orribleness my lot are lining up something like this:

Rankin

McAteer
Phil Thompson
Carragher
Tommy Smith

Barton
McMahon
Gerrard

Fowler
Aldridge
McManaman

subs: Fairclough, Tarbuck, Bishop, Boardman.

Yorkshire does well for goalkeepers, had Seaman as an option too, but everywhere else...

Gordon Banks

Kyle Walker
Michael Dawson
John Stones
Danny Rose

Stewart Downing
Nicky Barmby
David Batty
James Milner

Kevin Keegan
Brian Clough

And I just noticed the title is about English counties, racist.
