Best ever English XI by county

Complicated ain't it? The term ceremonial county means different things to different people, as evidenced in your article.

The easiest way to understand it is to consider where Lancashire play cricket. Old Trafford and Aigburth.

They play about two minute walk from ours .

Steve Bruce?
Cracking shout. Still wouldn't kick anyone out of that front 7 for him though :D

Or just pick which ever you fancy.

Liverpool GK is tricky, isn't it? Echo reckons Andy Rankin is the best one. Easier after that. For undiluted Scouse 'orribleness my lot are lining up something like this:

Rankin

McAteer
Phil Thompson
Carragher
Tommy Smith

Barton
McMahon
Gerrard

Fowler
Aldridge
McManaman

subs: Fairclough, Tarbuck, Bishop, Boardman.

Alridge was Irish.

So if we are doing Lancashire ( Not Merseyside and Manc ) then surely that team would win the world cup.

............Springett...........
Cohen...Moore..Ferdinand..A.Cole
Beckham.Hoddle..Ince.....Haynes
.............Lampard...................
.............Greaves....................

I know London is not a county, piss off.

All time just means players from any time period, pick which ever county system you think makes the most interesting team.

Ok. My birth certificate says Lancashire and I was born in Wavertree , Liverpool.

feck it .

I want to just stick to Scouse players as they'd beat anyone. The Geordies would give us a game like.

The next time anyone asks you where is England's footballing hotbed you know numbers one and two.

;)

Beckham - Walthamstow - Essex .

Let's do cities.

I'll start us off.

Liverpool v Manchester

;)

Beckham - Walthamstow - Essex .

Born in Leytonstone, London. Walthamstow is also in London by the way.

They way I look at it, if you have a London postcode then you're London. Somewhere like Romford (RM postcode) aint London but Walthamstow (E postcode) is.

BOOM !!!!!

I friggin knew it . Did Jimmy Rimmer get any caps ?

He's from Southort la .

The internet seems to believe Johnny O'Aldridge was born in Liverpool. First club, South Liverpool - lifetime supporter of LFC, craftily hidden accent. I continue to propose that this foremost sporting Corinthian & even handed pundit is deffo Scouse. I need him anyway, there's nothing like a big enough bellend on the bench unless Paul Nuttall makes himself available.

Lampard behind Greaves while Hoddle & Haynes do the water carrying - I like it, :D. @duffer

He's a Garston lad . South Liverpool docks . He stood on the Kop in his youth and watched Shankly's second great team and Paisleys. Think he went from South Liverpool to Newport to Oxford United. He first played at Anfield in 85/6 for Oxford and we sang Aldo is a Kopite. He was bought in 87/88 to replace Rush. He left in 1990 to play for Sociedad. He ended up at Tranmere.

I 'think' he holds the record for finishing top scorer in evey division he has played in.

Where Liverpool is concerned mate dont google , just ask.

Manchester (or Greater Manchester)

1. Joe Corrigan
2. Gary Neville

4. Nobby Stiles

6. Colin Bell

11. Johnny Aston

Probably all boyhood Evertonians. We all know us Evertonians are the better footballers. ;)

Who played for Liverpool.

What does this say about Everton and it's scouting system ?

:D

I think historically Liverpool had a fantastic record of discovering young pro players from other clubs and bringing them in. I'm sure you can name more than me but Neal, Clemence, Keegan, Rush, Case, Hughes, Murphy and so on.

In terms of scouting schoolboys, and bringing them through I would argue Everton have had greater success.

You are right I could add a lot more to that list. I loved Shany's transfer policy . He would buy one or two first team players every season and one or two reserves players every season. Think about it. Its so simple and so effective.

Your second comment maybe true but I would need to do proper research on that. Everton nearly got Fowler but it was they way Liverpool treated him that swung it. After his trials Kenny use to take Fowler back to his house in his Audi. Can you imagine how that made him feel ? Fowler getting out of Kenny's Audi on his council estate with all his mates looking ? Simple things like that make a difference.
