Is Mou still 'The Special One' for you all?

Very unfair to Mourinho. All of his signings were spot on. It's not his fault that Moyes spunked loads of cash on Fellaini or that LVG overpaid on massive flops.

We are doing better in every aspect since Mou took over. It is far from being a smooth ride but at least we don't have to witness the Moyes / LVG shit-shows.

Mourinho's deals on the transfer market constitute the best aspect of his tenure to this day. However I'm sure that if LvG's team could rely on service from Ibra along with Pogba they wouldn't have been that boring to watch and would have fared considerably better on every front. To be clear I rank Jose higher than his predecessor.

I've always believed that for the last decade we have had too many squad players and to keep everybody happy the rotation has been too much.
That has led to the starting line up being unsettled and the best 11 have had too few games to play together, when they are eventually called upon f.x. the CL knockouts.

Therefor I was happy with Mourinho coming in, a manager who has in the past settled on a team he trusts and stuck with it.
Over the course of the season he has had issues with some of our most talented players, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Shaw in particular. He seems to require more from them than other players competing for the same spot.
Lingard, Fellaini, Rashford and now Ashley Young can survive a poor game and still get a game, and won't be publicly called out by Mourinho. But you feel the 3 I mentioned earlier will be dropped as soon as they have a bad game. It's probably very uncomfortable in the mind of a creative player, thinking you have to make something happen everytime you get the ball.

I feel he's doing it the wrong way around, potential first team players get no trust and no platform to build up form. While the squad players are slowly being preferred and the creativity has suffered.

I feel the last few months he has become more and more negative in his selection and more defensive in his substitutions. I'm starting to feel he has to have a starting 11 full of world class players to make some progress.

True mate. No complains on his signings. But like many on here have said, his man management skills seem to have gone awry. He does not seem to be able to, as far as we can see anyway, generate that type of loyalty he got out of his players when he was at Chelski I and Inter.

It strikes me that if (as widely reported) both Moyes and LVG - experienced managers - had trouble getting their messages across to our players, then it's not likely to be Mourinho who's the problem. Over the years, too many of our players have become used to the easy life and so resist change or making more effort.

Great post. I am starting to believe Jose is more focused on finding his "yes men" than of nurturing some really promising talent at the club. Despite his success at Madrid and Chelsea lately, this very clearly did not work in his favor as he was basically hated by the players in under 3 years.

Kyle Martino (of the NBC sports team) put it well when he said (after Jose fleecing Shaw/rich young players to the cameras): That Jose cannot change the money going to young players and this young generation is different in many ways to the past generation Jose seems stuck on. It is Jose's responsibility to adjust to the younger generation and learn that they must be handled differently than in the past.

This, I fear, is a massive flaw in Jose's approach as our manager. He's being a tremendous hypocrite to blame young players for not changing when he's showing no willingness to change himself. It's a bad sign that he is already choosing mediocre yes men over our players with the most potential. If the mediocre players were delivering results, then he'd be right, but they aren't.

Always find it strange the way people can rail on Jose being unfair on young players and not giving them enough opportunities in almost the exact same post that they're giving him shit for picking Lingard and Rashford too often. Make your minds up, people!

Which posts are those?

Yes, other than that post which doesn't say anything about Mourinho being unfair on young players.

Sorry but you really are a fecking moron. It's incredibly tiresome discussing anything with you. I'll quote this, then put you on ignore. Cheerio.

Exactly what i was thinking yesterday.

I find it strange that people try to use Jose playing a 24yr old England international as evidence of him giving an opportunity to young players.

I dont get this Mourinho doesnt give youngsters an opportunity business. Rashford, Lingard and Martial have had plenty of game time this season.

If by youngsters people are referring to Forsu Mensah, and Tuanzebe, I dont see the point as defensively we have one of the better units in the league. I would like to see some of these involved in the U23's though to give them game time, or send them on loan.

Our problems this season lie in our failure to convert our chances. Who else can we call upon?

Mourinho is not the special one for me, however he is the manager and I back him 100% to succeed. Changing the manager again is not the answer. Too many of our players are going through the motions and need a kick up the aSS. Some of those will undoutably shown the door this summer.

Probably, by saying "giving youngsters chances", they mean a consistent run of games with meaning game time, instead of being benched for a few games, let him play for a game of 60min, no good, back to bench again.

The "bad finishing" problem, is not something just happens this week, or last week. It has been like that, for few months I recall.

Do Jose & co think that it is a problem, that need to be fixed? Do they set out any plan, extra trainings, ect, to train the guys finishing, composure? Has anything been done to correct this?

More like the stubborn one.... Jose needs to make our team to Pogba's strengths in order to get the best out of him. Fergie did the same with Ronaldo.

Thing is we've had major squad reshuffle over the last 4 years. I'll play your game here. In process of finding culprits of malaise IMO we can exclude whole pack of central defenders, because they're the least essential group that influences progressive game(+GPs). From fullbacks we get: Valencia who's in form of his life; Darmian - bit part player with probably no future at the club; Blind - fine offensive wise; Young - regular bench warmer with okeyish cameos.
Midfield: Carrick - oldie but still decent, he's not a DM though; Herrera - great, but underused in first season, totally rubbish in second, now asked more often than not to do a mind boggling DM job; Fellaini - the adopted child of 3 successive fathers, he's corrupted & evil, however they've all somehow found endless amounts of love for him. Seriously not good enough in any part.
Attack: it's only Rooney and I think you've precisely had him in mind, cause he fits the diagnosis like a glove; well, there's also Mata - the second striker who's permanently being asked to play as a winger.

For me the blame lies with our managers. Moyes was doing a nothing job, completely bottling transfers windows. LvG did well in the market, yet his downfall came from underestimating PL as well as overestimating his football masterplan aka philosophy. Unwillingness for compromises must be mentioned here.
And last we have our dear Jose. Like I've said he's done well with incoming players, but he should have used winter transfer window for bringing in a DM. Ostracizing (kind of) Shaw and Mkhitaryan while giving Rooney free reigns for few months isn't something to applaud. Delegating Pogba to two-men-midfield, Herrera as a DM. Schneiderlin not getting any chances, from day one it looked like he's not figuring in his gaffer's plans. And Fellaini of course with his magnificent displays.
Our squad is good enough for winning a place in league's top 4. Not achieving that goal will be universally seen as a big failure.

Starting to get disillusioned with him. Falling out with players by repeatedly criticising them, throwing them under the bus but himself and playing hoofball and Fellaini on in every match which is bound to fail 90% of the time. It's a wonder we are 5th at all. We escaped with draws most of the time. Selling players and not the deadwood who can't move the ball faster ,lack creativity in breaking down defences by crossing every chance the y get and more accurately

We attack more now, which is nice, but results and the hoofball feels like a younger version of LVG.

His biggest task is to develop the young players in the team. if he can do that then he will become special again.

Our squad has a number of youngish/inexperienced players and its time he shows he can develop them to big stars instead of just buying ready made stars

Eric
TFM
Marcus
Jesse
Martial
Andreas
Shaw
Adnan

No. His biggest task is to win.

I was absolutely livid with him a few months ago and even had a thread in the newbies where I said I'd pick Martial over him if it came down to it but somehow he's won me over in the past few months despite our poor form and so called poor man-management. I think his management of Luke Shaw is reminicent of Fergie's management of Rooney during his first transfer saga. If it was LVG than Shaw would be gone without any drama if he was slacking off but with mourhino approach there's a small chance that he'll work hos socks off and fulfill his potential. I think we're the perfect fit for mourhino style man management if we give him complete control like Fergie.

Rooney was benched in like the 5th game of the season and since then has ended up barely featuring as a sub and ocassional starts in needless games. What makes you think that's some free reign?

Last year we were winning with boring football, majority of people claimed they would rather lose playing attacking football than win playing boring football

Now majority seem to say attacking football doesn't matter if we don't win.

so which is it?

Well said. Jose needs to change, it is what made SAF what he was, the ability to change his style with every new generation of players. If Jose doesn't learn to adapt he may well go the way of Wenger who had great success with one generation of players but couldn't get the next generations to believe in him in long enough to stick around and win trophies.

We all want 11 warriors on the field representing our club, but it isn't always possible, and ultimately it always comes back to the leader. Jose is our leader and he has to decide whether he wants to be known as the lion who could lead sheep into battle and win or just a man who needed a special kind of players to make him the "Special One".

Never thought he was "The Special One". He always was and will be a self serving douche. Though the douche wins trophies and that is why we hired him. We needed someone with the pedigree and the personality to take us back to where we belong.

Besides the delusional Jose fans, no one thought we would challenge for the title this year; or that we were grand because we signed "The best player each from France, Germany and Italy". The challenge this year is to get back to the champions league and for Jose to assess the squad while showing improvement. I think he is on course to do that. We have already won the league cup, have an excellent chance to win Europa and we have kept up with other teams for a top 4 spot. Pool is third with 60 points having played 2 extra games, City are 4 points ahead having played an extra game, and we are level on points with Arsenal. We aren't really that far behind.

I have gotten frustrated too with our defensive style of play post Christmas, the six at the back in games, the stalled progress of Martial and Shaw, the constant moaning and bitching, the mad substitutions like keeping Fellaini against a parked bus and replacing Mkhi with Rooney, or the spouting of alternative facts like 'people are critical of Pogba because of the money he earns'; but then I remember that I made a Faustian deal when I accepted Jose as my football manager. This all comes with the territory and is pretty standard procedure with him. He did similar things at Chelsea or at Real or at Inter or Chelsea before that. His title winning Chelsea team the year before last season performed similarly to us post Christmas. They went into their shell, become ultra-defensive post the Spurs loss and Jose continued with his nonsense. The major difference was that at Chelsea Jose had the goal scorers who could get him that crucial goal and the midfield and defense that helped him maintain that lead to win games. Anyone remember our game at Stamford Bridge when we had 75% something possession and lost 1-0?

He isn't going to be the manager who is going to massively improve our football like a Poch or a Pep or a Klopp could. Though he is going to improve the overall quality of our squad by clearing out the mediocre players and getting the right experienced additions. He did that at Chelsea: made the right acquisitions in the first two seasons, and they reaped the rewards of it the first time and are reaping it for the second time too. We needed that more than anything after the buffoonery of Moyes, VG and Woodie from 2013-2014 to 2015-2016.

Our performances this season are representative of the quality of our squad at disposal. Our fans should be thrilled if along with our league cup win, we are able to win Europa or get a top spot, or both. Good football is for later. It probably will come post Jose.

Three years, I keep telling myself. That's not a long period in the history of the club. Tolerate him for three years and he would win us our first post Fergie league title.

In first 8 games of the season he didn't find himself in the starting line up only once (EL away game, which wasn't a priority in any way for Jose as he confirmed it by himself in that time). Wayne got perma dropped after almost 2 months.

If I remember correctly, he was dropped for the Leicester game in September and then mostly played in cup games after that or off the bench in the league games

You mentioned he was dropped in EL games which wasn't important but failed to point out in those 8 games (I think it's 7) 1 was community shield, 1 was in league cup.

He stared only in the first 5 EPL games and then was dropped.

Trust me, United WILL challenge for the title next season. We are talking about Jose Mourinho here guys. This season's experience is very good for him. His pride has been bashed. He is hungry now. Wait for the next set of players he buys. No one deals better in the transfer market than this guy. What I can't guarantee is a long term stay. He has the capacity for a melt down but only after he has won. Win, he will. That's as sure as Messi will score from 5 yards.

This post is spot on. Mourinho has won the title with every single team he has managed. His record is second to none. League titles in four different countries - how many managers can claim that, even if we look at all-time historical records? He has already transformed United's style of play and won a trophy for the club even before the end of his first season - and is almost certain to land a second trophy.

Mourinho guarantees trophies, period.

In the summer, it will be imperative to strengthen the squad. We need another proven striker, as well as top quality full backs, and maybe a reinforcement to our midfield.

We will win the title next season. I fully expect Mourinho to win at least 2 titles at United, regardless of how competitive the league is. He managed to win titles during an equally competitive era, coming up against Fergie and Wenger's invincibles team. I am sure he will be able to do it once again, against Guardiola, Conte and Pochettino. I believe it will be United vs Spurs for the title next season.

it wont be utd v spurs lol.

itll be city v chelses, or at least they'll be faves

they're both going to spend silly money aswell, and if sanchez goes across London they'll be hard to stop. same if city get a gk, fb, and a cb

when he said hed rather ten draws and stay undefeated than win 5 and draw 5 was absolutely moronic. Ridiculous mentality

He was saying it in terms of the future and looking for something to build on for next season. Not in terms of the current season, he would obviously trade 10 draws into 5 wins in our current position. But agreed, it wasn't the smartest thing he's ever said.
