Should Wenger be sacked?

Should Arsenal sack Wenger

Ronald Koeman at Everton would tick a lot of both boxes but his main drawback is political. His owner at Everton Farhad Moshiri is an associate of Alisher Usmanov Arsenal's second-largest shareholder. Main shareholder Stan Kroenke may not want an 'Usmanov man' in charge

Interesting. Would probably be a good move to kick Kroenke out of the club.

Don't really see how them being associates compromises Koeman. More likely they may not want to approach him due to close ties with Moshiri, than him being a biased 'Usmanov man'. Koeman is just an employee like everyone else.

Yeah, typical Daily Mail bullshit. It's just that i am desperate for some news atm, lol!

Great! Still one month of uncertainty! That's what we need, especially ahead of the F.A. Cup (the league and 4th spot are long gone).

Fecking stupid, either way just tell everyone what's happening then you lot can get behind the team u til the end of the season.

End of season speech:

I am Arsene. For years, I have given everything for the club. I think the time has come to make a decision. A difficult decision in the circumstances. So I have finally decided to go on for another year, because I am not a quitter"

Exactly.

The fact that they're afraid to announce he's staying because it'll infuriate the fans is surely a sign it's the wrong decision?

I cannot wait to see how they try and PR spin Wenger staying into good news. The press conference or press release when they announce it should be hilarious.

Kroenke did the same thing with the Rams and Jeff Fisher but they eventually fired him.

They surely must already know if he's staying, even if it's not being announced? The big clubs will already be preparing for next season in terms of transfer targets and the idea that you can bring in a new manager and get done what needs to be done in one summer is at best naïve.

I'd personally be shocked if he stays given the circumstances. If he does the board might as well just admit they're not interested in progressing the club and only in it for the money. I've said it on here before but he'd have been sacked anywhere else years ago. He's far too frightened to spend big money on players because then he's got no excuse for not winning the league or performing in Europe. Some like to criticise the top managers (particularly Mourinho it seems) for spending big but they're putting their necks on the block. They know that if it doesn't work then they'll be sacked.

Wenger specialises in failure - and worse, he tries to wrap it up as success. That feeds down to the players who are happy to finish 4th, pick up their wages and all have a nice time in training where they won't be criticised or dug out by the manager in public (or I suspect in private) - even if you're laughing at your own team getting embarrassed when you're sat on the bench.

The board have a big decision to make. A new manager will want £150 million n available year on year for big names. That's how modern football is.

Imagine they announced now that Wenger is staying, I can see riots at the Emirates. They'll probably wait for some good moment like getting into FA Cup final or actually winning it before they say 'he's staying, lol'.

Arsenal Blog said:
Never one to think too highly of the common fan on the terraces, this culminated in last year’s rather sarcastic AGM comment by Peter Hill-Wood: "Thank you for your interest in our affairs."

There is a rumour doing the rounds that he signed a new contract extension a few weeks ago and that they are simply waiting to put a few wins together to announce it so the fans don't go bananas.

I'm convinced he's staying. I think he's already signed the contract.

From a united point of view i hope he stays as long as possible, if i was a Arsenal fan i would be wanting him away ASAP. they need to be competing at the highest level, would just depend who is likely to replace him, Simeone, Koeman, Allegri all linked and would do a great job with the resources available to them,

Yeah I have read this as well. Wenger isn't going anywhere!

Please be true

We are not gonna put more than 2 wins in a row 'till the end of the season.

Sound plan that.

even if he has signed a new contract they could still sack him if they lose to City in the Cup semi, it'll just cost them an extra £10m so no really biggie

Most plausible outcome. Pires, one of his closest allies said the same on French TV a few weeks ago.

Poor gooners

My theory is that he's signed a two year extension and was planning to announce it in March or April.

Then they hit this bad run of form and the club keep hesitating with the announcement due to the toxicity within the fan base. They were probably hoping for Wenger to get them into their top four charge form but it hasn't happened.

Now they're stuck with what to do because things have never been this bad under Wenger, and the idea of him staying at this point seems ridiculous.

Imagine the reaction from the fans if Arsenal finish out of the top four with no FA Cup, and Wenger announces that he's there for two more years.

I'm still not convinced that all fans want him gone. It'll be interesting to see what happens. If he stays then I suspect he'll only get big money to spend (if indeed he's got the bottle to spend it) if he's staying in the longer term or they may as well keep it in the bank for the next manager to spend rather than bring in players he might not want.

...or you live long enough to become Bono.

Well not literally all but a huge proportion do and certainly enough that a contract extension at this stage would result in a massive backlash.

As to him spending money he longer possesses the insight and know-how to do so wisely. We've seen concrete examples of this over the past couple of seasons.

I think this is the case too.

Apparently arsenal are planning to appoint Overmars as DoF, if the mail is to be believed

There's zero sense in not announcing he is leaving if he really was going to leave. And he said he decided what he was going to do even before the protesters came on. So I think he is staying.

There is no way that bunch of gutless players, who clearly aren't playing for the manager anymore, rise to the occasion and win the Cup.

I still think top 4 is a possibility though, our fixtures are disgusting in the run-in and we're gonna drop many points.
