Champions League QFs (11th - 19th April)

No Mendy? Wasn't he in the starting lineup yesterday even though they said he had problems and won't play? Reus doesn't even make the bench so BVB only with 6 bench players.
Except for Sokratis that Dortmund back 3 is depressing stuff, how many minutes has Bender played this season? 5 in all competitions?

Edit: Almost! It's 134 minutes over the whole season.

Did anyone choose not to?

No.

I have literally zero expectations on this game. As far as I´m concerned every single player could have a mare today and I would completely understand it. This game should not be happening today to be honest. A tournament that prides itself as the epitome of club football lets a team play, that experienced an attempt on their lives not 24 hours prior. Well done UEFA.

Two pretty average defences, so we should see quite a few goals.

Although, Monaco lose a dimension with the absence of Mendy.

I'm going for a 2-2 draw.

I think your main point is correct and you can't possibly imagine how they're feeling right now especially with a teammate wounded, but what other options were available? Next week are the return legs, and then there's only one free week before the semis but Monaco plays PSG on Wednesday the 26th, so if they didn't play this midweek, the semis would've had to move as well as the draw and stuff like that.

I hope they consulted Dortmund and it was a mutual decision to play today but I doubt that tbh.

You stay classy Leicester fans.

The least the UEFA could have done is put the game on Thursday to give the team the opportunity to get more than a couple of hours of sleep.

Another possibility would be a single game on neutral ground instead of two games.

If the UEFA would care about more than just money? Yes, move one Semi Final a week later.

No.

I'm surprised it went ahead as well. I'm guessing with your game at the weekend followed immediately by the second leg next week they didn't want it held up. Shit situation all round really.

All kicking off now.

"Spanish bastards, Gibraltar is ours."

No offence to anyone who is English, but they can't drink for shit. I see it nearly every year on holiday. They get pissed too early and then get rowdy.

That's what Tuchel said on SKY Germany:
  • We wished we've had more time.
  • Nyon decided to play.
  • We're sports professionals - but we experienced the event as human beings, not as professionals.

Never underestimate our ability to go into stereotypes whilst drunk.

The England fans were singing songs about the war against Germany last month. Fecking mouthbreathers.

If you're a BVB player, you need to count your blessings that you're still alive and can play the game you love. That is all the motivation one needs.

Unless they have a bit of a meltdown like they had one against Bayerm last year.
What? They played very well against Bayern and actually came back from 2-0 down at home from what I remember. They were 2-0 ahead in Munich too and were very unlucky (and a bit robbed) to go behind.

Do Dortmund use a better version of You'll Never Walk Alone than Liverpool, or is it just my bias that makes the version the scousers play sound so fecking dreary?

No.

I think the reason is that because of calendar they could not have fit this game anywhere in the future. It's a tournament and you cannot delay it too much. Had it been the Last 16 game they would have very likely allowed it to be played in the following week.

With couple of favorable mistakes from the ref, Barca should be able to do the comeback. But it is going to be very difficult.
Unlike PSG, Juve defend well. And unlike PSG, are not likely to get overwhelmed by the occasion.
Agreed. PSG are a talented side, but the axis of Juve has seen it all done it all.
All kicking off now.

Great. From BVB&Monaco fan solidarity to this. No self control. Embarrassing.

We use a different version and quite frankly in terms of atmosphere there are worlds between the Westfalenstadium and Anfield.

Leicester should be thrown out of the CL for the behaviour of their fans.

Disgraceful

Why play Piszczek as a part of 3 at the back and Ginter as a wing back?

Because Piszu is more used to that role and Ginter is actually not that poor going forward as RB.

At the end of the day no lives were lost and there weren't any life-threatening injuries. The show must go on and I'm sure the players are professional enough to understand it. We've reached the business end of the season and the schedule for most teams is jam-packed. It's not as simple as moving the game. Moving it to next week would have caused a huge logistical mess for the rest of the teams in the competition and also their respective leagues. If this was moved to Thursday then Monaco couldn't play their league game on Saturday, it would have to be moved to Sunday and that causes trouble for fans and organisers. Having a one-off game on a neutral ground is not fair on those who bought tickets for either of the legs. CL games are big events, it takes a massive effort to arrange the games and people come from far and wide to watch. UEFA are at fault for many things but it's weird blaming them for this.

Whilst it's great for us neutrals the game should have been played at 2045 CET, the original time for kick off last night.

Ah alright. Is Piszczek a better passer than Ginter?

Nice tackle by Glik.

Ginter actually had a half-season at RB, where he had like 9 assists in 17 games or something. He just leaked a lot on the other end.

What the hell does that even mean? These guys are not soldiers, police officers or firefighter. They are football players, some of them even only teenagers. They can´t be expected to deal with such exposure to grieve danger in a matter of hours. They had a freaking bomb exploding under their asses ffs.

Unless your employer is a complete asshole, no one would be expected to work a day after this.

WTF?

That's no penalty
