David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

Have only just seen this gem of a quote from Moyesy after we won the Charity Shield:

He honestly believed he was going to clean up the prem / Champions League etc :lol::lol:

And only 3 months later he said our team is shit and that even SAF would struggle with them. What a bellend.

I don't know why they keep him. I already said they will be relegated at the beginning of this season, if they continue with him they will finish in midtable in the championship. He doesn't have the mentality to fight for titles nor is he strong enough to fight against relegation. His dream job was at Everton where he was in his comfort zone. No one expected him to win titles and he didn't have relegation worries either. They never pushed for a cup title or a good Uefa Cup campaign and everyone was fine with that. Even when he finished 4th it was with 61 points and a negative GD. Koeman will top that and finish 7th most likely. I don't think he has a place in the PL anymore. Maybe he can find a second Everton in the Championship or turn Sunderland into it. And why should their players want to play for him when he throws them under the bus every week. And even if they buy him a new team they will be sick of him within a few weeks.

Don’t forget he took a team to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

And he probably would have got to at least the semi finals with Everton except for UEFA.

‘David Moyes believes there was a conspiracy against Everton when they qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2005.

Everton were drawn against Villarreal in the qualifying stage and went out 4-2 on aggregate.

"It was a defining point for us. Villarreal went onto the semi-final," Moyes said.

"The draw we got was a stinker. I always think it was the 'hot balls' in the bag that day.

"That could have changed what we did at Everton. If we had got into the group stages with the money that was available...”

Later the FA conspired against him: "I think it's the hardest start for 20 years that Manchester United have had. I hope it's not because Manchester United won the league quite comfortably last year (that) the fixtures have been made much more difficult. I find it hard to believe that's the way the balls came out of the bag, that's for sure’

At least the Nigerian FA didn’t conspire against him, they just complained that had made a racist remark:

Everton manager David Moyes says that comments he made about Nigerian players have been misunderstood.

He questioned the true age of his striker Yakubu Ayegbeni and of Nigerian players in general.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has written to the English FA asking for Moyes to be sanctioned.

After Yakubu scored a hat-trick in Everton's Uefa Cup win over SK Brann, Moyes told the Guardian newspaper:

"He's only 25, albeit a Nigerian 25, and so if that is his age he's still got a good few years ahead of him."

The comments caused outrage in Nigeria, but Moyes says he had no malicious intent.

"What I said was a light-hearted quip after Yakubu had scored a memorable hat-trick against Bergen," he said.

But NFA spokesman Ademola Olajire says the comments have embarrassed the country.

"His statement is insulting to the Nigerian nation and unbecoming of a Premier League manager," Olajire told BBC Sport.

"We don't take kindly to snide remarks about our players, or our nation and we have sent a strongly-worded complaint to the English FA.”’

Yep only a conspiracy spread far and wide across the football world could deny Moyes the success that his unequaled managerial talent deserves.

Dave's on his own little world, and his bum chum Journo friends have their heads so far up his arse they can't see the real world either.

Hardworking good honest man.

Who doesn't make excuses

No Excuses

"We have no excuses here, we try and take it as men if we can. Yeah we have a moan at the referees, but we try and take what we get on the chin and move on, and try to use it to make us better.

"You know it would be easy to make those excuses, that transfer window has had an effect on our performances, it would be very easy to say it has got anything to do with my contract.

And, writing in his matchday programme notes Moyes said: 'I certainly won't hide behind excuses and we know that we'll have to raise our level of performance and win matches.

He says he will not 'hide behind excuses' following a week in He had absolutely no excuses after his team were beaten by rock bottom Bolton.

“I have no qualms about the result,” he declared. “We didn’t deserve to be in front and Bolton deserved to win the game.

"Ok, we haven't had the best period, but we've had some decisions go against us in the last two games, it would look very different if they hadn't. We have a big game coming up, but at least we have big games to play.

"Oldham is a big game, yeah, for us, for the fans. I think we are in a period of big games, and we are in a period which will decide the direction of our season, but believe me, we'll kick on again."

"I am not going to accept it. I'm disappointed that we're not in a much stronger position. I'm disappointed with how we have played.

'Despite some positive performances from our team, results have not gone our way in recent weeks. However, I was confident we would finish in a strong position by the end of the season.”

And has a winning mentality

Winning: Mitigating Circumstances

"Their league position suggests they are ahead of us and they possibly do come here as favourites. They are having a very good season and we will have to do everything we possibly can to beat them."

“They will be favourites. They have beaten us twice this year, haven’t they?”

“I think anybody would think going to a semi-final would be an achievement, whether you have been there one year or 10 years,”

“But the thing about this club is they have got a history of being in finals, semi-finals, winning things.

“I have not been in as many as I would like to be, but I actually think there are mitigating circumstances for that in a way.

"I think we've played a very good side and it's the sort of standard and level we need to try and aspire to get ourselves to at this moment in time. I think we need to play better.

‘It has been a tough start to the season, a really tough opening period. There is no getting away from that. I am disappointed we haven’t won more and played better but I am sure that will change. What we need is to win.

‘We need to find a solution to winning games, no matter how. It doesn’t matter what style.

‘We simply have to find a way of winning. I actually thought we played quite well in the first half, but we should have created more chances and made more of those we did create

'We played quite well at times, we got near the edge of the box quite regularly but didn't make the opportunity to score a goal or when we did get an opportunity take it. That was the disappointing thing, as we went behind and came back

'We had certain periods of good control but we didn't get a goal or create enough chances.

"I don't know what we have to do to win. We played well today."

'We're struggling to win games.

'We're working but I can't do that overnight."

"I've told people that it was always going to be difficult,"

"I think I said when we came we were always going to build. I've come in late on, it's never going to be easy.

"I hope I was being realistic. There was no point in me telling people untruths - I wouldn't do that. Do we want to be there? No."

‘It is not frustrating because I will sort it. I will fix it. I will turn it around. I have got no doubt about that. We know we have to improve. I think the table will sort itself out. I think the big games are all to come in the second half of the season.’

‘I didn’t win enough matches but you must say there are mitigating circumstances. And I think you could say there are maybe things which have gone on since then that would actually justify that even more so.’

Who just needs better players

Building: I need better players

“You need good players around you to really show your managerial abilities,” he said. “It’s a really hard job.

'Ultimately you have to have good players on the pitch and, at the moment, we're not getting enough good players on the pitch,' he said.

“I think it would have been a tough season for probably whoever was in charge this year."

“I don’t think I have anything to prove to anybody else, but I am always proving to myself that I want to keep my standards high.

“But what I want is players who allow the manager to have that record. I have a big job to get that.

“The mentality I need to change, the way we play, what I want, I’d like that all to end up being what I’ve said. I want to have a good record.

"Everybody knows this is a job that is going to take a little bit of time to get the way we would like but that is the job,"

"Other clubs have had to do rebuilding jobs - we hope it won't take as long as some others but we have a period of time to get to that level.

‘I am not going to accept it. I'm disappointed that we're not in a much stronger position. I'm disappointed with how we have played.

‘I will ultimately take the rap for that, but what I will do is make it right. I'm going to get better players in. There will be more.

"I don't think there will be more in January, but it will change. I have said many times that I have given every player here the opportunity to play and show what they can do. We have nearly done that now."

"The fact of the matter is we need to make improvements. We need to get more players in, we need to add to the squad."

"A couple of new signings isn't all that's needed. There's a bigger job to be done, but you have to start somewhere. "

‘There is an urgency that we want to sign players but are the ones we want available in January?’

‘I have said before that I will try to bring players in this month. But it is doubtful because of the way the window works.

“I’d be kidding you on if I said the players we’re hoping to bring are going to make a big difference.

‘There is no point me hyping it up, because the ones we want are probably not going to be available. It is that, rather than us not wanting to do it.

“To suggest that a player we might bring in would be making a big difference would not be correct.”

“I think the players that came in at the same time last year did make a big difference and did a good job.”

See if you can decide at which clubs Moyes said these things. You have four to choose from.

He also knows a lot about Champions League football, because he’s watched it, but not much about relegation even though he’s watched that as well.

Speaking to journalists after United’s 3-0 home leg win over Olympiacos, and the draw to play Bayern Munich:

“It’s a really tough draw for us but one I’m looking forward to,” Moyes said. “People asked me the question about being inexperienced and not having any Champions League experience so I was amazed that none of you asked me the question the other night.

“It must have slipped your minds ... but I said before that I’d watched enough games and seen enough Champions League football and hopefully watched so much football that I know a bit about it.

“But I got help from a lot of people around me – I said I would do that – and thankfully we’ve got ourselves to the quarter-finals but hopefully we can get to the semi-finals.”

After Sunderland’s relegation:

"You never can tell [how we will react], I've not been in this position before so I couldn't tell you exactly," he said. "When you watch football, sometime you do see teams change, react a bit different but our performances in recent weeks have been good but the results have not matched it.’

From a journo at the Hull game:

From Sportsmail's Joe Bernstein at the KCOM Stadium
'One feels that David Moyes is right up for this game, perhaps driven on by all the praise Marco Silva has received this season.

'The Sunderland boss has been in the technical area all afternoon, clapping and cajoling his men despite The Black Cats' relegation being confirmed last weekend.

'So far, they have responded in a very competitive game.'

I just bet that Dour Dave will have a cheeky comment post match somehow insinuating his superiority over these naff foreign managers.

Good result for Sunderland, I'm convinced they will stay up in the Championship next season.

So along with the numerous LMA awards, the 4th place of 2005, the 2013 Community Shield, the 1-1 draw against Guardiola's Munich, Moyes can now add 'ending Marco Silva's long undefeated home record', give this man a contract extension!

Feel stupid for writing Moyes off, form is temporary...class is permanent

Sunderland didn't win today, David Moyes did but more importantly than that football won.

Because it starts here today, just you watch David Moyes will rise up again like a Phoenix from the ashes.

David Moyes Confirmed As Man Utd Manager
The current Everton boss signs a six-year contract with Manchester United to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as the club's manager.
04:48, UK,Thursday 09 May 2013

David Moyes has signed a six-year deal to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as the manager of Manchester United, the club has confirmed. The current Everton boss, who will take over on July 1, described his appointment as a "great honour".

Paying tribute to his fellow Scotsman, he said: "I am delighted that Sir Alex saw fit to recommend me for the job. I have great respect for everything he has done and for the football club.

"I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever, but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often and I'm really looking forward to taking up the post next season."

Sir Alex, who is stepping down after 26 years in charge, said the club had "unanimously agreed" upon Moyes.

"David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I've admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of assistant manager here," he said.

"He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this club."

The appointment of Moyes was confirmed in a statement on Manchester United's website, in which co-chairman Joel Glazer praised his "hard-working style and steely determination".

However, the club inadvertently posted the announcement on their Facebook page, starting a flurry of activity on Twitter and other social media.

Sky Sports commentator Ray Wilkins said he was "delighted" for Moyes but added it would be important for the established players to rally around their new manager.

He told Sky News: "I am sure they will give David the utmost respect when he walks through the door because of the job he's done in his managerial career up to now."

Former England manager Steve McClaren told Sky Sports News: "He has a near identical work ethic, character, competitiveness to that of Sir Alex.

"He will have Sir Alex at his side and if they get on, as I know they do, it's the master and the apprentice."

Sir Alex, 71, guided United to 13 Premier League titles and two European Champions League crowns during his time in charge.

"The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time," he said.

"It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so."

Moyes' appointment as Sir Alex's successor ends speculation that Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho could be given the job.

Those quotes are as bizarre today as they were 4 years ago, probably even more so. I believe Moyes was the 1st choice to succeed Ferguson, i will always be baffled by what the feck the club was thinking around that time. Appointing Moyes made no sense on any level.

:D

Yeah thats the craziest part of that story, and to think there were United fans who were delighted we'd appointed Moyes and not Mourinho. :wenger:

Ah the 'better fans' on here certainly acted that way alright.

Yeah i know the type, they were playing the long game. So one day after Moyes won his 10th league title they could tell their Grand kids they stuck by Moyes through thick and thin, when loads of glory hunters wanted him out.

Mourinho was still at his best in 2013. He would have been the best choice to replace Sir Alex.
