That latest goalscoring record is his greatest individual achievement.

Records are great but I'm really glad the way he's ending the season. Right now he's on fire, scoring 5 against Bayern, hat-trick against Atlético and now also scoring vital goals in the league after losing to Barcelona. So I'm very glad it has paid off to rest him more in order to hit peak form at this time in the season. This has been possible thanks to our squad and management but Ronaldo has played his part amazingly to the point many of his critics now acknowledge how reliable and professional he is.

Hope he can continue like this in this very last 2 games, and portuguese fans must be very excited to see him end the season so on fire just before Confederations Cup.

Any gifs of his miss? Must be the worst of his career

Nothing beats missing a pen, along with Kaká and Ramos, against Bayern, this one though is very bad for him (and any other professional player) but thankfully he had buried his previous chances.

Anyone think he's looking leaner at the minute? Like he's dropped some of the bulky muscle in favour of being a little lighter?

Potentially yes. Probably a smart move as it allows him to keep some of that agility as he gets older.

That could be the reason but I believe it could also help to prevent injuries, losing some weight in order to put less restrain on your knees and articulations while running. I remember watching some videos of him training with a sweater in the middle of the heat and sun at the beginning of the season.

He has definitely lost some weight. He seems like he can run at full speed now instead of what he was doing earlier in the season when he seemed like he was limping when he tried to sprint

Alan Shearer's total amount of league goals (19 seasons): 283
Thierry Henry's total amount of league goals (21 seasons*): 284
Ronaldo's league goals in eight seasons at Real Madrid: 284

*Includes five seasons in the MLS

Ronaldo also has 14 more league goals for Real Madrid than Rooney has goals in total in his entire career.

He's a freak.

That's mental if we think he turned into a striker, he played mainly as a winger during his carrer.

Ronaldo is too good.
Given all these records, is Messi would some still consider Messi the better of the two?
Ronaldo with all these records and has also performed in 2 different leagues. Messi has neither.

A complete and utter goal machine. In terms of just putting the ball in the back of the net I don't think there's ever been anyone better.

Yes, there was an article about it a few weeks ago. He's slimmed down his upper body and focused more on his lower body to maintain his pace.

With his professionalism, work rate, taking care of his body, i think he will mantain this level till he's 34. I think he will retire from our NT after the Russia WC (if we qualify).

It's like he's reinvented himself this season, considering the pelters he was getting last season, despite the goals he was scoring.

I wonder how much influence Zidane has had on his 'resurgence' this season. If he's going to respect anyone's advice, it's going to be Zidane's.

I really thought this was the year where his ridiculously high level finally drops. But he has transformed a bit both physically and in the way he plays over the latter half of the season and is now back to his best. I seriously think he can go on scoring atleast 20 goals a season till he's 40. It's going to be really fun to see how both Ronnie and Messi evolve in their 30s.

For Portugal's sake, you'd hope his next season pattern is similar to this season. If he goes into the final stages of next season as fresh as he seems this season, he could drive Portugal very far in the WC.

He's been sensational lately.

He's a physical specimen much like Lebron in the NBA.

Truly a joy to witness.

It's going to be very interesting. Logic would say Messi will continue for longer as he can be a world class playmaker deep in midfield as long as there are legs next to him but I think he's the most likely out of the two to lose a bit of interest and see his levels drop.

There's no doubt they've both been driving by personal goals and glory and by competing against each other. Ronaldo has the physical attributes to keep his scoring up well into his mid to late 30s. I wonder whether Messi will have the same drive for the game when his numbers naturally drop as he plays in a deeper role and doesn't have the pace to punish defenses on the same frequency as he can now. If the Barca team is still great he will be fine but if the Barca levels drop and he's trying to be a world class playmaker in a sub standard side (by his levels) then I think he'll struggle to motivate himself.

Just a real showcase of just how far one's sheer hard work and dedication to their field can take them. Everytime people think he's done, he just comes back stronger than ever.

He's already sealed the Ballon D'or as far as I can say, he's won the league and has led his team to the CL final with sensational performances in the QFs and SFs against two top teams. But winning the CL against this Juve team would be a historic moment for him, Madrid and European football as a whole, retaining the trophy for the first time since it was rebranded. Hopefully he'll do it in dominating fashion. He's leaving us short of words to describe what he's achieved, the numbers above in comparison to two of the greatest league scorers in Shearer and Henry are just insane. A real privilege to witness his career and he's far from done. If Madrid ever want to move on, Woodward shouldn't hesitate in offering whatever it takes to get him back and finish his career here.

It's the way he's altered his physique to enhance his abilities this season.

His commitment is commendable, and has brought my respect for the man to a new level.

He'll continue to alter his diet and training in order to maintain his highest possible level in his last years of his career.

What a player, what a career, especially if he adds another CL this season to his ever growing list of accomplishments and honours.

Real Madrid and Manchester United Legend; doesn't get better than that.

I think he is probably the best player ever, if he could add a world cup then it would be undeniable.

He appeared at the right time of the season and silenced any doubters didn't he ?

He scored 5 goals vs Bayern and 3 against Atletico to lead Madrid to the final, scoring twice to Seville and twice again to Celta to nearly wrap the league for the Madrid.

It's sure not his achievement alone but the super, super player always plays to his best when his team needs him and he did that at the end of the season.

Imagine him in his fifties - the thighs of Ronny Coleman and the upper body of Christian Bale in the Machinist. And still fast as feck!

It looked to me that he has carried an injury for a while, but he looked faste and more agile the last couple of games I saw him. Has he regained some of his speed and agility?

As I've said numerous times, he is the best European player of all time and the longer he keeps doing this the more clear it becomes.

Yes, I think the injury he suffered during the Euro final affected him somehow for a much longer time than expected. Though he was back on the pitch soon, physically he was still not 100%. The lack of preseason also affects a player's sharpness especially at his age. What surprises me a bit this season is how Ronaldo has accepted that he can't play all games and is open to being rested or subbed off nowadays. It shows a lot of maturity on his part and also how well Zidane has managed him.

He's finished as Ballbag has repeatedly claimed in the last 2 years....oh wait I think he's now changing his opinion......again

Zidane seems to have been great for Ronaldo (and other players), with a calm authority, not indulging in power games, so that players know that if they're not chosen it's not because he's out to get them. Plus the fact that he's Zinadine Zidane probably gives him (rightly or wrongly) more authority in matters of how to manage your career than most coaches.

But as good as he is physically, I think his mind is as important. How many players have had both the intelligence and discipline to use their bodies like he has?
